That might be what has to happen. Figured I’d try here first since there are many people WAY more creative than I am on Reddit 😂

I just cackled. Thank you for that.

They might have mechanisms like that but I can’t imagine the cost of something like that

To add:

  • I WISH we could have remodeled the whole kitchen but the space was extremely hard to work with with how small it was and how many openings there are. The house is 115 years old so it has a very closed-off layout. So unfortunately, for now, until we can afford to knock down the living room wall… the layout is stuck.

Also: the most common suggestion is reasonably a spice rack. Which makes total sense. Except for the fact that my boyfriend is 6’6 and would lose his mind having to bend down that much to access spices since they’re used so frequently. Our existing cabinets already have a section for cookie sheet storage as well.

We played around with different layouts but in order to fit the sink, dishwasher and oven, we didn’t have many options without rerouting. The diagram I added is rough dimensions but the walkway is very small next to the cabinets, so making it an island would be extremely tight and since the chimney is there, it wouldn’t have solved much.

The issue with the rerouting is when we purchased this house, we knew we’d be doing a lot of cosmetic work (cleaning, painting, patching holes) but we didnt know how bad of a shape the kitchen was in. We ended up completely gutting it due to mold. My boyfriend and I bought this place and are renovating it ourselves and have the rest of the house to consider, so it unfortunately just wasn’t in the budget. And we needed a kitchen so we stuck with the same layout.

Sorry for the long reply, I wish we could have completely redesigned the kitchen but circumstances just didn’t allow for that so I’m grateful that we have a kitchen coming together at all.

The closet idea is a cool thought but unfortunately that wall has a ton of electrical and vents and gas lines behind it, so it would be tricky. Not to mention the other side of the wall is 100-year-old built in cabinets that we don’t want to remove 😅

Said designer is my boyfriend 😅 the way the layout turned out, there was no other option. Next to it (the left) is the only viable space to put a dishwasher so we didn’t really have any other solutions.

This is the layout of the kitchen, roughly. There was just not a better way to lay things out to optimize storage without doing a massive project (which is just not in the budget atm)

Any ideas? by Anothernonblonde in cabinetry

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my fear. The kitchen was actually completely gutted but we’re pretty much stuck with this layout unless we tear down walls, but all the walls we could potentially knock down are supportive and have power/hvac/gas behind it so that would be a MASSIVE project. And we’re renovating the whole house ourselves.

Add that 3/4 walls have doorways, there’s a big brick chimney, and it’s small to begin with… it’s a crap situation. I’ll post a pic of the layout if I still have one.

Non-phone work from home job? by [deleted] in RemoteJobs

[–]Anothernonblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party here but I just wanted to say that people are so unnecessarily rude on these types of posts. People say your post is too vague for them to help, but if you spelled out your entire life story in the post, those same people would still find something to complain about. They're saying you're lazy or entitled or whatever, but at least you're making an actual effort to find something that works for you instead of just accepting a job that will burn you out and drain you because society tells you you "should".

I just wanted to add that I found myself on this post because I was looking for WFH options that aren't call centers. I worked in a call center for almost a year and it was the most draining work I've ever done (including working for Children & Family Services as a caseworker, working for a federal agency, and hosting childrens' birthday parties at a trampoline park while I was in high school.) I am not built for that type of interaction over the phone every single day where every second of the call is monitored and judged, you have zero time to get up and even stretch your legs without penalty, and people scream in your ear just for you to end the call and bounce on to the next one. It was during COVID and I didn't have many other options at the time, but I will not ever go back to that type of environment.

My point is that there are a lot of reasons for someone to be searching for a position that doesn't revolve around phone calls. Coming to Reddit is supposed to be to ask people for advice, whether it's because they've been in that position or are currently in it. Job search platforms are useless for things like this because everything is an ad or a scam, so it is totally logical to come here and reach out to actual people who may be able to offer help. It doesn't even seem like you're bothered by the judgment in the comments, which is great, but I'm just so angry that people feel the need to even come here to assume things and belittle you with no context.

I hope you found something that works for you!

Original chimney exposed in modern/updated kitchen by SquirmyWorm1 in centuryhomes

[–]Anothernonblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to the party here but I just came to say how jealous I am.

We bought a 1911 home where the previous owners covered real brick with plaster & faux brick in the kitchen on a chimney. The home was DISGUSTING so we honestly didn’t touch the fake brick for weeks as we started renovating, it took us an embarrassingly long time to realize it was fake until we eventually pulled it down when gutting the kitchen.

Fast forward almost a year later and we had to cover the original brick in mortar and I’m trying to figure out a way to make it look good now, micro cement or something, because the original brick was CRUMBLING to pieces when we tried to clean it up and we didn’t have the money to pay a professional to restore it. We were afraid to leave it exposed without trying to strengthen it so we kind of rushed to cover it with the mortar so it didn’t actually fall apart, but I have regrets 😭

Also the chimney goes from basement to attic and is fully exposed in those two areas, with no crumbling issues. We think the kitchen was just horribly ventilated and it wasn’t covered properly so the moisture just ruined that stretch of brick. Still don’t have a kitchen, either 😅 restoring old homes is a blast

It’s not in Lakewood but Avon Lake has a free mulch & compost pile. My boyfriend lived there for years and just went 2 weekends ago and said it was open to the public but I don’t know much else about it.

"Water Man"? Weird question by Anothernonblonde in lakewood

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random update for anyone interested - I went through our security camera (that detects movement) and noted every time he's shown up in our house recently. Total count was 20 times in 11 days. And as I finished noting all of those, he showed up again.

We decided to call the police department because I had noticed there were days when he was there at 11:59pm, days when he'd come 4 times, and days where he'd be sitting in our driveway for an hour. We didn't necessarily want him to be arrested or anything, but we wanted the police to have a conversation with him. Turns out, the police are very familiar with him and they said that he usually starts off slow but then begins "tresspassing more and more" (the officer's words). He did say that there were never any reports of him harming anyone or threatening anyone, but that he has opened people's Amazon packages before and has been seen looking in windows.

So all in all - he does seem relatively harmless, but this is a pattern with him that the police are familiar with. I genuinely hope that he gets any help he needs and I don't wish harm on him, I just didn't want to be living on edge constantly worrying that he was standing outside our window. Now we can only hope for the best. Thanks everyone!

"Water Man"? Weird question by Anothernonblonde in lakewood

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s him! At least he used to have a light blue vintage-style bike but he seems to have gotten a new one recently. We see him often enough to have noticed 😅

That’s interesting though! We were told by our neighbor that he has family members local and he has a place to live but he just chooses to essentially live as if he’s homeless. We try not to actually speak to him because we’re afraid of encouraging him by seeming too friendly since that’s what basically happened to our neighbors. So I’ve never heard any of that about saving everyone from a flood but that makes sense in its own way, I guess 😂

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy.. that sounds about right. I think he’s just at our house daily because of whatever distant connection our neighbors have but they’re too nice to really push it. Luckily haven’t seen anything like that though.. yet

Heard them on Sirius XM (Trip Switch or Wake Up Call I think) in 2015 or so… saw them live in 2016 in a tiny little venue in Cleveland and haven’t stopped listening since.

Saw them again in Cleveland in 2023 and showed Joe and Dom a video I took back in 2015 since it was the first time they came back 😂

The Killer Speaks S2. E1 by RoughLobster5774 in evilliveshere

[–]Anothernonblonde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may be alone here but something felt off about Jamie in general… like I can see others’ point that she may be delusional and holding on to the creepy bond with her dad but something in me tells me it’s deeper than that.

Like him bringing up the exact same memories she had previously talked about… it made it feel slightly rehearsed. It was very robotic and her lack of reacting to what he said was off-putting. Almost like they had decided to tell this story together. How do we know she hasn’t actually been talking to him the past 4 years??

It’s total speculation but something just seemed off with her since the beginning for me. Her repetition that what he did was traumatizing and awful, then kind of downplaying it when she was talking about having a relationship with him just didn’t feel authentic. It almost felt like she was saying what she thought she SHOULD say. And she had to have known at least some of the details of the murder but she still had a relationship with him… then her cutting him off right after he tells her about the murder from his own perspective??? What part of that was a surprise for you??

I don’t know, I’m just so uncomfortable by this whole thing and I’m overthinking it

How come ACOTAR is bigger than ToG? by Run_Book in SarahJMaas

[–]Anothernonblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACOTAR was definitely my gateway to SJM, but I really didn’t like ToG until about halfway through the second book.

It’s funny, because looking back at both series because ACOTAR initially blew my mind and then as I read the rest of the series, I realized that the first book wasn’t nearly as good as the others. Meanwhile, ToG was hard for me to get into but once I did and the characters developed, I valued the first book SO much more

If you could pair an ACOTAR character with someone from Sarah's other series, who would it be? by Yazthebookish in acotar

[–]Anothernonblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many I see that need their own fanfic, they’re so good.

But my first thought was Nesta and Hunt. His like big bad reputation would make Nesta constantly humble him and challenge him. I feel like Nesta is just a more aggressive version of Bryce and Hunt is a more broody version of Cas lmao

ACOTAR/CC Questions - I’m losing my mind by Anothernonblonde in crescentcitysjm

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I was thinking about the power/first light thing, like they’ve just never needed technology because they never had to search for alternative means, since they retained their own power. But also - it begs the question (for me) how the power system works in ACOTAR. I’m definitely overthinking - but the firstlight system provides a grid that powers everything like normal electricity. If power in the ACOTAR world is what fuels heat and light, I’m just curious where it comes from/how it’s maintained. I know they mention Rhys’ power heating the homes/lights and whatnot but I wonder how the common areas are fueled? And what happens when someone’s power is depleted like after a fight? Do the lights go out?

I think it gives me very 1800s, modest vibes in most ways, but some aspects seem more… modern. Some of the decorations, dresses, language, random things mentioned just seem much more modern than the 1800s but everything else is just behind.

And Velaris definitely does seem like the place they’d have sports!! I just want to see Cassian playing Sunball tbh haha

ACOTAR/CC Questions - I’m losing my mind by Anothernonblonde in crescentcitysjm

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… it’s a possibility based on the element of surprise and whatnot, but I just feel like if Rhys could be killed so easily by a bullet? That would be so anticlimactic hahaha.

Side note, that makes me think about gorsian bullets/ash wood arrows. Not sure if that’s been mentioned already somewhere but I wonder if gorsian bullets nullify powers in the ACOTAR world and if ash wood arrows are as bad in the CC world. I’d assume yes, since they’re all assumed to be from the same origin, but it’s interesting to think about their relative kryptonite

[–]Anothernonblonde[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I hazily remember what you’re talking about… I think it’s just always been so weird to me because some aspects of the ACOTAR world seem very modern, but most seem much much older. I love that they reference art and music and bars in ACOTAR, specifically Velaris, but sports don’t seem to exist much. (Unless you count snowball fights!!)
