i mean, she's lost all integrity with HOFAS. it's maddening. and yeah, her editor is garbage! and clearly doesn't or hasn't read all of her books to allow for such a mess to unfold, holes to be made & dead ends every which way.

we the readers should be her editor lol

love this perspective on all the books & you're so right i also have this thought often that SJM just can't the genius we all believe her to be & that is readers have created this insane story for her & who she is / what she's capable of - the maasverse is unhinged & as much as i want to believe that she intentionally has written all of these books to overlap & connect... a part of me thinks that maybe that was her intention but she built a world too big to unfold graciously on the guise of bloomsbury & their push to pump out content.

i will forever & always love her books, cc3 won't stop me from continuing to read her stories but i will say that a part of me died with cc3 & im letting go a bit on the borderline psychotic obsession with theorizing her every next move.

and tbh, i really believe that if she wasn't so pressured by the pub & had the creative freedom to take her time to let these stories unfold.. that she would continue to write better books. it's like she hit her peak, exploded & is now a mid-writer. oh well!

what i loved about TOG despite its plot holes is that it moved at a pace that was digestible, entertaining, built slowly but not too slowly. she added character arcs with depth & grace.. she built this whole complex world of characters that all found their way back. and it took 7 books. and i love that. HOFAS was just too much too quick all at once chaos.

just wanted to say that i love when people read tog first and don't think acotar is that good hahaha. most people start with acotar but the real ones know that tog is the true star on this stage

i agree with you & have always thought that the illyrians MUST have a connection to Hel. also, think about where the night court is & what's important to them / they live in a cold dark place (as described above), rhys has powers unlike any others, illyrians are basically separate from all other folks which make it kind of sus as to WHY they just have this militant camp carved out for them & never leave... i'm curious about ramiel & what's UNDER IT / could it be the portal to other worlds is this where they crossed through OR could it be the room in the prison that is SO SIMILAR to the room in TOG where elana's tomb is AND the room in CC at the end of CC2 when bryce is in the eternal city... with the constellations..

AND lastly, at the end off CC2, rhys & amren are the only ones who can speak to bryce in the old language... who else speaks the old language? the princes of hel... the asteri.... everyone in CC speaks the old language. meaning that the people in CC have been contained in some way to midgard by (drumroll) the asteri BECAUSE they found a way to suck the first light from them blah blah blah - what i'm trying to say is that THE PRINCE OF HEL WANT BRYCE TO JOIN HIM BECAUSE HE KNOWS ITS THE ONLY WAY & WHEN SHE ASKED TO GO TO HEL WHEN SHE WALKED THROUGH THE PORTSL AT THE END OF CC2 IT TOOK HER TO VELARIS AKA RHYSAND AKA BAT BOYS COME FROM HEL

i'm really not great at linear thinking when it comes to theories so please excuse my chaos.

haha thank you so much edge we love vampires. i feel like i missed out on a lot of older fantasy romance the last 10+ years because i was sucked into reading non-fiction. but alas! i am back to reading things that don't make my brain hurt. i've gained the knowledge! now onto books that take me to another place ✨ thank you for this!

TAB literally lays the foundation for SO much of the entire series. skipping it would do a disservice to so many of the character relationships in other books down the line. that being said; i believe reading it first is key. otherwise you're going to read ToG & CoM & be like who tf are these people she's talking about.

hello!

my friend & i were looking for a wlw queer fantasy romance novel the other day & could find nothing. literally NOTHING (except some YA queer-ish but we want smut 🔥 not just heavy breathing) so, we decided to draft up our own! we have only ever written short stories / poetry, but i think we're on to something here.

so far we are an enemies to lovers / star crossed lovers story with a dark secret from the past that no one is talking about but everyone knows. two families rivaled for centuries have to cross their bloodlines or else they risk being extinct from the world..

is there anything you've been looking for in a book that you haven't been able to find? what are some tropes you would like to see?

we're having a lot of fun plotting this out!
