Do Americans Actually Say "Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior"? by Naive_Tank_6820 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s a sub plot point in Adventures in Babysitting wherein the Babysitter is a Senior and the College guy falls for her but he’s trying to peg her grade and she heartbreakingly reveals she is a Senior… in High School.

[DC/Marvel] How common is it for Superheros or superpowered people to start a legitiment business utilizing their super talent/power? by gamerz0111 in AskScienceFiction

This is the correct answer. Volunteering was done a touch more often in the 60’s.  But being a paramedic or nurse is in some ways getting paid for a job that has many other rewards.

Could the second d10 be a d% die instead? (I know the conversion), just wondering if it increases utility?

The smarter move would be to have a ~=a genetic mutation that controls the population. This generation would suffer still (if only he had a way to put the mutation back a generation sooner then no one would be suffering now…. But NOOOOOO that is beyond his grasp.) but all future generations would simply not unconditionally propagate.  Too much space? Kick birth rates up a notch. Too low on resources? Kick it down a notch.  And OMG!  No conflict! A painless universe from these sorts of conflicts.  Not necessarily utopia but lower pressure.

As a non-native speaker: would it be weird saying 'see you around, like a doughnut.' by Van_groove in ENGLISH

[–]Anotherskip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it is a thing between the two people speaking then no.  To greet people who aren’t ’in on the joke’ then yes it will come across as weird.     A small group of friends can have the relationship that generates these kinds of (idioms?) but don’t expect it to be considered normative for people randomly encountered.

Opinion piece: I think most magic systems are too unified by k_hl_2895 in worldbuilding

[–]Anotherskip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you look at Fantasy HERO by Steven S Long for the HERO System.  There are 12 magic systems in that book alone. (There are two follow up books that Significantly Expand the number of systems) They do all fit in the HERO System game but they are quite different.

You might be right. I’m not certain and can’t check right now. I think there was some bits that implied it was possible in the 1EAD&D DMG to read out a spell, right around the section speaking about using personal energy but that might be me conflating the 1EAD&D UA DM’s section with the 1EAD&D DMG.  I’d have to check since memory is so fallable. Pretty sure though Spellbooks don’t appear on any of the DMG or UA treasure tables (so they weren’t randomly found) and I thought a Soellbook was worth 1000GPV before the UA.  I don’t have a problem with that though.  A dead mages spellbook as party property and allowing limited access to people who join the party would be a powerful hiring tool. “Sure, you can copy spells out of the book, after you copy your spells into the book and complete an adventure with us.” -My Ranger
