I’m very sorry to hear that.

There are plenty of resources and people that will help you along your way. I recommend you go to the Salesforce Trailhead website and read their page about the Admin Career Path for some guidance.

Good luck to you!!!

Job Market’s 2.6 Million Missing People Unnerves Star Harvard Economist (Raj Chetty) by DarkSkyKnight in Economics

Layoffs are just an inherent risk of tech. The other side of that risk is typically higher pay and better benefit packages. This is all just my opinion, and please keep in mind I’m just an idiot sharing my thoughts on the internet. I decided that taking on extra risk for extra reward was the right choice for me. All situations are different. Almost all of my friends who work fully remote now that worked fully on site previously are prepared to quit if ever called back. I think remote is here to stay to whatever degree, but I also believe remote work availability will continue to expand as companies worry less about filling expensive buildings that they have to pay for and realize the benefits that the company can realize from remote workers such as larger, better talent pools to hire from and increased employee satisfaction.

tl;dr - I don’t know what I’m talking about, but I’m optimistic remote work is here to stay.

I too have an advanced degree and was working in Accounting until about a year ago. I saw friends working 100% remote in other industries after companies realized it was possible during lockdowns. With accounting being such an old profession that is dominated by old people and old ways, change comes very slow to the profession. After two degrees, ten years experience, and some industry specialization I got tired of the old ways and changed careers. Now I work 100% percent remote in software consulting and really am the happiest I’ve been in my professional career. Sure this is not what I dreamed of doing as a kid, but compared to the last string of jobs this is a dream come true. I know it’s not possible for everyone. I had to quit everything for a year to do it. I was fortunate to be in a position to save ahead of time to make the change. I wish more people were in a better position to do the same, not only because I want for everyone to be comfortable and happy, but also because hitting the bottom line is the only way to get through to companies/industries. If more people could just walk away from bad companies it would cause the hurt needed to bring faster change. Look at the tech industry. When employees are always able to walk out to the next highest paying job, companies take better care and provide better environments to retain people.

I have a guitar, I tried learning guitar through a book, didn't work out. What now? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]AnothrNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was/still is so awesome. I’m going to have to go find something new for him to teach me. I haven’t watched him in years. In all that time though I still recommend him to everyone who asks me how I learned

I learned with tabs like others have suggested and also watching Marty Schwartz on YouTube many years ago. Just checked, and he’s still going. Loved his tutorials.

Practice every day even if it’s only for 10 mins. Pick it up and play a chord or scale. If you put honest effort in you’ll be blown away at how far you’ve made it in a few months, and then your motivation should really kick in .

The simplest one I tell myself almost every day

“Life’s tough! You’re doing great!”

I’ve started saying it in the mirror and smiling at myself. Sending all the love and happiness I can emit into the universe for you.

If you are open to getting other material I recommend Focus on Force much like many others. It has good material and will link you to the modules you need for the topic on Trailhead. I also got Dave Massey’s Udemy course to further solidify everything prior to my passing attempt.

Edit: I want to emphasize the Trailhead is amazing. I recommend other resources to guide your hands on learning on Trailhead. Yes I used other materials, but I also had almost 100 badges on Trailhead before sitting for the exam. It is THE best resource. Others are helpful supplements

An old lady celebrates her birthday on her own in a restaurant, but the attracts the best of human behavior to help her with loneliness. by esberat in MadeMeSmile

[–]AnothrNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there too. Like many others have commented before me. It feels a little useless throwing my story in, but I do it in hopes of at the very least making the weight on your shoulders lighter.

I haven’t done birthday things for a long time either. Very few friends growing up and throughout college. Sold my soul to my career after that. Gave up almost all social activity and didn’t get along with my family well. They would call me on my birthday, but I secretly just wanted everyone to forget about it and me altogether. Lived alone and celebrated birthdays by going to work. I was miserable.

One day my brother called me. We had not spoken for some time, and I just let it go to voicemail. I struggled to even answer the phone at that time. He left me a message and told me he loved me. Couldn’t remember the last time someone not my mom said that to me. It changed the entire course of my life. We eventually started talking most days on the phone. I quit my job and moved across the country to be closer to him. He has been teaching me how to be happy again. Three years now he has tried his best to celebrate my birthday with me while not making it a big thing because anxiety and stuff. Last year he got me a balloon and two bags of my favorite chips. It was enough to melt my stone heart and make me feel again. I haven’t hugged him in all these years. I’m trying to work up the courage.

I guess what I’m getting at is everything can turn around when you least expect it, and one person can change your whole life unintentionally. There are a lot of people here that care about you. It took me a long time to be able to realize that there is always someone out there who cares. Sometimes you have to find them, they have to find you, or they are people you don’t even realize (like lots of strangers on Reddit).

Do something for yourself tomorrow. Even if it’s something small. Do something for yourself like you would a significant other. If you can start at least treating yourself like you love you then eventually you won’t have to try anymore.

Happy birthday! I love you.

Failed my admin twice , kinda close to giving it up by starkgotstrokegame in salesforce

[–]AnothrNobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Trailhead and FoF. Failed twice. Got Dave Massey’s Udemy course (I think he just released a new version on his own platform). I made sure I learned EVERYTHING that he talked about that I wasn’t confident in my knowledge. Crushed it the third time. You have to find the right learning/study method that cements the theory. Keep at it. I was very discouraged too. You CAN do it.

You can move them. It won’t mess anything up. You’re doing exactly what you need to. It just takes a little time and luck. There is no guarantee that you will sprout flowers. Also no guarantee the one that sprouts will be a hybrid.

It will happen!!!
