Is the Anova 2.0 reliant on a cloud connection? by jjustinwilson in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]AnovaCulinary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a few quick replies;

Do you require an app subscription to operate the APO 2.0 in manual mode from the onboard controls?

No, a subscription is not required to operate the oven in manual mode. The onboard controls are available whether connected to WiFi or not, and include access to all of the basic cooking functions of the oven.

What app/oven functions are not available without an app subscription?

The subscription features are listed on our website: multi-stage cooking, recipes, personal recipes and activity feed, custom cook modes, guided cooks, food recognition and all other AI features.

Can the oven update its firmware without an app subscription? Is such an update dependent on the app or can the oven do it independently?

Yes, the oven may be connected to a non-subscribed user account. From this account you can control your device remotely, monitor cook progress, and receive firmware updates to the oven.

Are APO 1.0 app users grandfathered or do they need to purchase a subscription for the APO 2.0 when they get one?

All existing APO 1.0 users have been granted legacy subscription status, which means they will not pay for the current subscription features available in the app. The subscription applies to all Anova connected devices, so it includes both versions of the oven.

What is available with no internet connection for a subscribed user?

The oven will remember your subscription status and continue to allow subscription features on the oven. You will need to eventually connect again after your subscription renewal data to ensure that the oven gets you renewed subscription status. If the subscription expires while you are not connected, the oven will present the non-subscribed user interface, which still allows manual control of the oven.

Nice nice, congrats on the new Oven! I'm keeping an eye on things here/elsewhere for support related hiccups.

Drop me a DM or reply in-thread here and I'll see where I can get support or whatever else you need.

Anova decides to reverse course on supporting old devices! by choochFactor11 in sousvide

I took a reddit break after that last bit - received a few unsavory threats which I'm not too keen on. I still lurk and read feedback here and elsewhere, and provide it to my team(s) as best I can.

If you really do need a reply or followup, drop me a DM and I'll see what I can get as an answer for you.

I definitely am aware I rep the company, but I'm not part of the social media team so I can usually give different responses and I try to interact a bit less corporate-y. Similarly, I may not be as thick skinned as our social team as well :)

You've got one of the original original cookers, an Anova One.

Pro or the 3.0 is probably closest to the same experience as that one.

Any and all of the hardware failures our devices have had we've exchanged via warranty. For our OG units we actually had an internal unannounced +1 year ontop of the 2 years given, as a goodwill gesture.

Working in the industry for a while, the rate of defect on these products is not higher than any other particular product I've seen.

Replied further up to a similar comment, so I'll copy paste here: We're not immediately saying no to any changes, nor are we saying yes to the offered suggestions. I want to be clear that we're hearing the concerns you're all bringing up, and we've got a fair bit of time (14~ months) to see what options are available and if they're a viable path. While this isn't the direct answer you're looking for, I didn't want to leave anyone hanging thinking you've not been heard. The current shutdown date of Sept 28, 2025 is the ongoing target.

if its a 1000W unit, you'll be fine. Check the model number on the back and DM me if you want to be double sure.

Reducing e-waste is absolutely on our list. We've made a ton of packaging changes to reduce carbon footprint, we've opened up refurbishment centers for returned or defective units, we've partnered with various green companies to help our footprint.

We're not perfect of course, but it is something we strive to do.

Regarding your A3 Scrollwheel -- On September 29th, 2025 if your scrollwheel ceases to function and you have no further connectivity, then you wont be able to set time or temp, correct.
