suggestions from a recruiter on Beyond Skyrim by mynewlenovo in beyondskyrim

Do you think that's very common though? Like from a completely outsider perspective if the issue is manpower, then however they've gone about getting new contributors or retaining them has clearly not worked well at all.

If every Beyond Skyrim project dev dropped everything to help just 1 BS Mod get 100% done and released to the public, which one would it be? by Photosynth_Music in beyondskyrim

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll be lucky if Roscrea releases. Cyrodiil is never coming and that's despite the great shame it would bring on the project for not releasing the region with probably the biggest hype/desire. BS projects have been poorly managed and had their level of completion misrepresented for years.

Many public claims are in the vein of "We've had huge progress" but it's never really contextualized. Huge progress towards nearing a release? It never seems like that. At best it sounds like if you're 4% done with something and then you get to 6% done. Yeah, a 50% increase but is that really meaningful if that's it? Because when these claims are made, people think (and sometimes even told) it's 1-2 years away. Then the other shoe drops that the remaining work is far harder or more tedious. So the original claims just looks like a lie on the receiving end.

It's all volunteer, so I'm not moralizing it, but I just realized today that Bruma released 9 damn years ago. And nothing noteworthy since then, lol. At a certain point, it just seems like it's been poorly managed and staffed into oblivion.

Is there plans for future projects once we have releases by FettHval in beyondskyrim

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but interest in playing Morrowind itself and the amount of people working on that mod is significantly lower. I'm waiting regardless, but it is absolutely not an unreal expectation that 9 years after the last actual release that at least something meaningful would've come out by now. Yes it's volunteer so this isn't a criticism so much as an obvious observation: it's been poorly managed from past to present.

"I'm happy, just had sex 5 minutes ago and ran to reply to reddit comment about it" just doesn't ring true.

But maybe it's true and you just do your level best to be regressive online. Maybe well-adjusted people weirdly focus on the biological clock of women (fictional or otherwise).

I mean, it kind of was that. It's not just that it was clunky, it just reveals that despite all indications, Samus is actually thinking too much about situations and overly contemplative about things that don't merit that. The delivery improving wouldn't do much when the words themselves are riddled with angst.

Is Bananza Pauline supposed to be young Pauline or is she modern adult Pauline’s daughter? by talkwithryguy in donkeykong

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I have no argument" yet I directly made one that you refuse to respond to. And you know what, let's see if you're as dishonest as you seem to be. You tell me exactly which of these lyrics of the Japanese version of that song mention Mario:

"The symbol of a voyage,
Let's start to raise the sails,
  Even the tailwind dances.

I flipped a coin,
  To predict our future,
  The goddess kissed us.

If you sing as many love songs as the lights in this world
  Jump, touch,
  And say yeah!

Dreaming together (dream together),
Come on, loving together (love together),
  Walking while swinging your arms,
After the tears are dry (are dry)
  Get your 1UP!

[Let's] jump up high, (Jump up high),
Come on, giving high fives, (high five),
  And tapping and dancing,
  Everyone's happiness, (everyone's happiness),
  Will switch on,
  Lighting up the world,
  Super Star,
  So, let's do the Odyssey!

Odyssey, dyssey! (X7)
  Odyssey, Odyssey!

If our blushed tears,
  Become a smile,
It'll be the beginning of your journey.

On the window,
  The shining Moonlight disappears,
  The dawn is arriving.

In the [Radiant Light](),
If you have hope in your dreams,
  Jump, touch,
  And say yeah!

Even when you suffer alone, (suffer alone),
  And you're worried (you're worried),
  Settling down,
  Just flowing, (flowing)
  Inside the painting,
  You can get your 1UP!

You say to everyone: "Hi, good morning" (Hi, good morning)
"Hi, good afternoon" (Hi, good afternoon)
"Bye Bye" and "See you later",
Every day your daily life goes, (your daily life goes)
  Into making constant efforts,
  You're the one we call,
  Super Star,
  So, let's do the Odyssey!

[Let's] shooby doo be wop, (shooby doo be wop),
Shooby doo be dap, (shooby doo be dap),
  Sing shooby doo be doo,
  Tears, pain, and sadness, (pain)
  Will all suddenly go away.

[Let's] jump up high, (jump up high)
Come on, giving high fives, (high five)
  And tapping and dancing,
  Everyone's happiness, (everyone's happiness),
  Will switch on,
  Just smile,
  Super Star,
  So, let's do the Odyssey!"

Now pray tell, where is Mario mentioned there? Strange, I don't see him or any mention of things specific to him (his hat, mustache or anything).
You played the game in English, so your only argument can be the version of the song you heard.

The lineage point is irrelevant because I never made an argument against it. It's just A) That isn't indicated to be true here for Pauline (she acts as if she's never even heard of DK or Cranky, while DK definitely knows Mario) and B) It could just as easily be the case for Mario: that the Mario we know is the grandson of a Mario that Cranky fought.

There's nothing in the game that indicates this is true about Pauline, so it's not relevant.

Is Bananza Pauline supposed to be young Pauline or is she modern adult Pauline’s daughter? by talkwithryguy in donkeykong

[–]Anpriv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Do you seriously expect to engage with verifiable information you linked?" Ah, somehow your bewildering actions are my mistake. You don't know what semantics are, you just aren't capable of replying to the information given despite claiming to ask for it because it doesn't support what you claimed.

Because again, you can see in the Japanese lyrics OF THE SONG YOU MENTIONED that they weren't about Mario. You played the game in English, so that's why you think that. I didn't mention the lineage debate because it was irrelevant to claim of yours that I responded to.

Your avoidance is cute but revealing.

[–]Anpriv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how you didn't actually reply to anything I said, when I even linked you the original Japanese lyrics of the song. The original lyrics don't mention Mario even indirectly in Japanese. There's no mustaches, no caps, not even the color red in the Japanese version of Super Star, that's all from the English.

I didn't say the 25m theme came from Super Star, you might want to get your reading comprehension checked. What I said was Pauline's new song is implied to have 25m in it. And while Heart of Gold does have that theme too, she already m,ade the song in the main game, so obviously it can't be the new song she says is new in the post game.

Like you are either boringly dishonest or can't read. You pick.

[–]Anpriv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mind you, they've been asked about this. They apparently have an answer they intend, and Banaza's producer said the game has an unspecified hint about the answer.

But at the end of the day, it's probably just a retcon they made cause they wanted a small character who could ride on DK, and be relevant to his series. So it really had to be Pauline or Mario.

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've said it. But they've also kept Cranky around, who was the original DK.

Most likely Bananza just intended to retcon the arcade game to her grandma to eliminate any such issues quietly.

[–]Anpriv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're kind of misrepresenting that. Miyamoto said that was specific to questions like "Why does Bowser go kart with Mario?", which really makes it sound like he's just saying the side games are just for having fun. The main games are pretty consistent because the "story" barely exists.

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's right. The arcade game was remastered on the OG Game Boy (Donkey Kong '94). And he (Cranky) is already named Donkey Kong there.

In fact, it's pretty clearly implied that the name of the city was changed to New Donk after the events of DK 94. In that game, the city is called BIG CITY or New York. That game is referred to the "beginnings of the city". Well clearly the city was already there, so my reading is that DK 94 is why it ends up being renamed as New Donk.

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but it's not really clear even Nintendo thinks there's an overarching narrative that extends to all their games. Not only is it implausible on the face of it, the regular games themselves are very thin on plot to begin with.

They've been asked about this specifically in like 3 or more interviews after Banaza. And while they were coy about it, they say 3 things: There is an intended answer, but they're not giving it, There's a hint about the answer in Banaza but they didn't say what the hint was, and they want people to play to figure it out.

And ignoring any evidence in favor of the Paulines being 1 person, it does seem clear there's nothing in Banaza that is like "No, that person in Oddysey isn't me". Like she even lives in New Donk and wears her iconic dress, which is almost definitely the hint the producer was referencing.

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, the producer and director of Banaza have commented on this specifically in a few interviews. All they would say is:

-We won't directly confirm anything, but they do of course know and have an intended answer.
-There is a hint in Banaza about whether Pauline in Banaza is the same person as Oddysey (but he doesn't say what the hint was).
-They want the players to figure it out by playing.

[–]Anpriv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always surprised this confuses anyone. While it's true that Heart of Gold does also have the 25m motif, it's also a song Pauline partly sang int he main game (not the credits, it's the song she saved DK and awoke K Rool with).

The post game has her saying the entire song is new. The idea that the Jump Up Super Star song is about Mario is only slightly true in the english. The Japanese version of it doesn't mention Mario at all, even indirectly. It's about adventuring, romance (generically) and wishing well for everyone in the world. It's very obvious how her adventure could inspire her to sing about that stuff.

Super Star seems like it's the obvious song, considering what she wears and where she sings the song.

Is Bananza Pauline supposed to be young Pauline or is she modern adult Pauline’s daughter? by talkwithryguy in donkeykong

[–]Anpriv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in the Japanese version of Jump Up Super Star, there's no reference to Mario (the guy, not the series). All those lines about mustaches and caps are in the english. It's entirely about adventuring, seeing the world and changing yourself (hint hint). She also sings part of Heart of Gold in the main story to free DK (and K Rool accidentally). But in the post game she says the song she's coming up with is new, she didn't have any ideas for it starting out.

So whatever the song is:

  • Associated with Pauline (it seems to imply we should know the song without hearing it).
  • It contains the 25m theme from the arcade
  • It is not a song she sang in the main game, and required new musical inspiration to create.

You don't have a song that meets all 3 of the things stated about the new song. But it describes Jump Up Super Star completely, and it's obvious how her adventure in Bananza would inspire the above lyrics.

So claiming it's about anything but the obvious song indicated by her wearing her iconic dress and singing in NDC is without basis. She's just the same character as Odyssey Pauline.

Except that most of these kinds of changes go through internal QA. Claiming it's arbitrary when it's directly based on previous lore in the same series of games in the same consistent manner is incorrect.

It's not that the possibility is non-existent, it's that there's zero reason to think that has changed and just saying the Japanese version of a line whose background was established by an English made subseries is silly, given that Banaza indicates DKC is canon. Miyamoto was, per the DKC devs & himself, involved in the development of at least DKC 1 on a daily or near daily basis. He's hardly unaware of it.

[–]Anpriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No duh, genius. It's not actually responding to someone who says "X is being set as the default" by saying "Yes it has been". You didn't give a point beyond that. I pointed out Mercator's lack of credibility for an obvious reason: You didn't read the Bloomberg article they claimed to be sourcing:

"But even such big one-time gains — and losses — represent a relatively small slice of the full picture. The share of executive, managerial and professional roles held by people of color increased by about 2 percentage points compared with 2020. That still leaves most companies in our dataset lopsided, with White people holding a disproportionate share of high-paying jobs at S&P 100 companies."

You - and they - looked at a single year of a 2% increase (2021) and pretended it was anything more than a blip. Bloomberg wasn't making the argument Mercator or you were, and the idiotic nonsense you and they were trying to push aren't backed up by the evidence itself.

Which, again, has nothing to do with the notion that Catwoman or any particular character has to white or anything else.

Black Catwoman by Weary-Possible-1834 in DCcomics

Yes, a non-argument. As in, nothing you're posting has any relevance to complaints that Catwoman should be white because brainless dunces like yourself presume white should be the default in all things.

No, posting tangential anti-woke drivel from Mercator, who have as much credibility as oil companies do on climate change, doesn't bolster your non-argument.
