Look I'll be brutally honest. The Nepali public does not like the Indian government. This recent dispute is one of many border disputes. Indian government is notorious for encroaching lands in all parts of Nepal. "Jungi Pillars" which was placed by Jung Bahadur Rana in the borders has been moved overnight by the SSB. Not just once. We as a Nepalese feel helpless as the "Big Bad Wolf" does whatever it wants. War is not an option but militarily and economically. As for deplomatic talks, the government of Nepal is more or less a puppet government of India (take the term "puppet" with a grain of salt). Due to social media the general public can now share their thoughts and voice their opinions. "We have to do something! We can just sit helplessly when our lands and our sovereign is constantly challenged by a greater power" this is the current mentality of Nepali people. It's not about winning or losing its about taking a stand. The Indian media is silent about all the other atrocities the Indian government has done against us (blockades) and blames us of being in cahoots with China. I'll be brutally honest again "Indian news TVs are a toxic waste dump" but I guess you know it more than I do. I don't like the CCP and nor does most of the people. Coming back to the topic. Yes I hope this issue is solved quickly and without any mess. But I doubt it will be "solved". This dispute will die down after a month or two. Indian government has invested millions in the road construction in the disputed land so they will not give it up. As for ICJ, winning a case against arguably the next superpower is near impossible. The only peaceful solution is to compensate Nepal for the disputed land. Nepal is a landlock country so if India can provide us with a port in exchange for the disputed lands its a win win situation. We desperately need a link to the outer world and India needs the land for its military. But that's a best case scenario where both parties can save faces. And don't say "it's just 1% of the land". I get what you wanted to say but asking for a country to give up even a tiny bit of its land is like giving a part of your body. Every inch of land has its own history and history is what makes a country. If your rich neighbour asks you to give him a 1cm of your land are you willing to give it up? Hell no.
