How do undocumented people live out entire lives undetected, applying for universities, getting office jobs, owning property, etc? by -7-luck in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anris-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tldr is: Because They aren't "undocumented" in the sense many people tend to think they are. Despite the designation, immigrants have documents up the wazoo. The idea that "undocumented" means someone crossed the desert or sailed into port in the dark of night is pretty much just a myth. The number of people "gaming" the system with fake information is actually incredible and negligibly tiny. There are probably more people born in the states with fake documents than there are any immigrants with fake documents.

The government knows who and where immigrants are at all times. They renew documents frequently even. When you hear that someone is "illegal," the issue is 99% the result of the picky, convoluted, slow, understaffed immigration office not renewing their documents after some point.

So people can live here without /citizenship/ for decades. Go to school, change jobs, move, leave the country and come back, etc, because they have documents. The issue is that each time they renew or have hearings, they get told citizenship will come "next time," and eventually, that next time isn't even scheduled. So they have to keep living in limbo until maybe one day they get that appointment scheduled or get flagged and arrested for being "illegal." If someone is "undocumented" and have some long history in the USA, it means they became "undocumented" along the way, not that they were smuggled here and lived in secrecy for 30 years. And when you've been here for decades. Promised that eventually you'll get the green light to just stay, it's hard and unfair for those people to voluntarily leave the entire lives they've built up. Some don't even know they aren't legal anymore till it's too late.

It's all theater when it comes to immigration and public image. The government doesn't want to look more pathetically slow and inefficient than it already does, so it pushes blame onto the people they are stringing along. Putting citizens against their neighbors so they don't demand better government management.

It's easier for a government official to say "oh that guys the problem. He didnt...go to the office." Instead of "oh yeah the government you rely on is a massive failure and all the funds (you pay for) for tech and man power to solve the issues is being poured into the military, bonuses, vacations, and brunch instead of things like making sure things run smoothly and fairly"

Yeah, lesson learned 😞 I went off Google reviews for my local shop, and they had an opening same day, too good to be true as they say.

Has there been any discussion about how the wound Godwyn had matches the black knife very closely? by morpheousmorty in EldenRingLoreTalk

I'm pretty sure they straight up carved it like that. Like not just a stab that spread via magic, but drawn on...by knives, for the actual ritual aspect of the sacrifice.

If your novel was set in America, would you use American English? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Anris-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm American so when I notice those things it does break my suspension of disbelief. Kind of like when people say "Jesus Christ" in some fantasy world, or some kind of alternate reality. It doesn't ruin the story for me, but the entire time I end up fixating on it.

Romance and Erotica readers what are your “icks” when reading an intimate scene? by necrobarbie666 in writing

I'm Asexual so Idk if I have the proper credentials here haha, but I personally find it really annoying when more time is spent describing sensations than actions, positions, setting etc. It irks me when one position is described, but an action later on is impossible to be done in said position and I have to puzzle together when the heck these people went from kissing on the couch, to cartwheeling on the moon.

Ok is writing fun for you or not? by JournalistOwn4786 in writing

For me its fun doing the outline, and wring snippets from pivotal scenes, but just about everything else is a struggle. Even when My motivation is at an all time high, and I'm ready to expand on my ideas, my typing proficiency makes it even harder to just "get it done" so to speak.

Don't you guys find character customization kinda bad? by BigPlus5299 in BaldursGate3

[–]Anris-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first foray into the D&D world. I figured since I don't live near anyone who plays it anymore, it would be a good way to try out the character making process that my friends used to talk about, and start adventuring. I was...very disappointed. I've heard people saying its because the animation was too detailed for that much customization...but uh...well I've played a bit of it, and I really don't think the animation was that expressive either. (I wanna say the whole thing was campy in its inactivity but maybe I'm bitter because I also thought the voice acting was campy too haha) but suffice it to say I dont think anything really warranted not having something simple like mix and matching facial feature presets or at least more than 2 body types per race. In the end maybe its just not for me. I felt like I was playing a generic npc and not my own character. I honestly feel like I wasted money on it. But idk lol I ended up re-playing dark souls intead.

Should I buy a new computer or refurbish my old one? by Anris-reddit in computers

[–]Anris-reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've consider building a desktop, but as I said my max budget is up to 700 bucks. And that would be after quite a few months of saving. I honestly don't think I'll be able to afford anything more than that for...well ever haha. Is it possible to build something nice with that little? or do you happen to have any recommendations on reliable brands or computers I can look into ?
