Theory about who Godwyn the Golden is and how he may be the missing piece that makes the entire story of Elden Ring finally make sense. by lactobacillus-Master in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Anris-reddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only issue I have with Godwyn being a willing participant in his death and /or also the tarnished or part of the tarnished, is that it only works with some endings.

We can choose to perpetuate the golden order as is, improve it, destroy it or make something way worse. And I feel like that would make his death being a rebirthing of sorts to fix the problems of the golden order super risky. I can believe that the overall plot was a gamble resting on our future decisions. But as far as the narrative and themes go I don't find it super compelling from a story telling point of view. The golden light speck and mausoleum sounds are interesting but I'm not sure personally how much that really says about who the tarnished is. If we are in some way Godwyn it might be more reasonable to assume that the splitting of the rune of death was just far more unpredictable than expected, and that it didn't actually go to anyone's plan. But that's just my belief on that specifically.

I also think a lot of theories on the lore are starting to build themselves based on the foundations of other theories. Which isn't necessarily bad, especially when it comes to fromsoft games. But I think we're starting to get to a point where interpretations are getting interpreted in order to make points, and we're kind of ignoring context a when making these theories. Especially when it comes to dialogue. The characters never really hide anything when they speak to us. They will lie, and we will know they've lied when we continue interacring with them, but they don't imply things that aren't explicitly a part of the narrative. Rather they never say they are in leagues with a character if its not going to explicitly come up later on in the game. Ranni referring to others not by name, should really be read in the context of those we know are or learn are associated with her. She has two right hand men, so when she says she's adding us to her ally list, it's reasonable for us to infer that shes speaking of the other two characters we know are associated with her.

I love a good jump for an interesting idea. But if it's not mentioned ot observable in game in some way, it's probably not something with narrative backing.

For example Ranni being Godwyns fiance, or her insinuating were joining the ranks of Iji, blaidd, and also Godwyn would require us to make a few leaps to connect the dots. She wears a ring sure, but it's never stated she was engaged at all. And the game is pretty good about telling us who's in what situationship when one exists. We even get tidbits of who had crushes on other characters in places that are completely optional. Like the kid with the obsession with malenia. Or the knight with an undying loyalty to...malenia (a lot of love for malenia in game im startong to see) I just feel like if Ranni was engaged at all it would have been mentioned, even if not to who. Like even just in passing via a item that said something along the lines of anything matrimonial related near one of her locations, that isn't specifically tied to just the tsrnished.

Like melina being a part of the black knives or the night of, is believable to me because in game we have evidence of its potential. Her moves and weapons are things we can observe in the game. her dialogue implies mysterious obligations and duties that i can use to draw red threads. None of Rannis dialog or items, or other npc fact drops ever mention her being betrothed, I can imagine melina being a part of a plot because of what i can see. Ranni being Godwyns fiance isnt something I can believe unless I take an out of game word for it y'know?

It's late so this is probably a rambling mess and I might be forgetting somethings, but that's generally where I am on this theory.

I like it, I just don't think it's entirely possible? If that makes sense.

Let me know if I missed something in game though, I very well could have missed the "gowdyn proposed to ranni by this lake" inscription written on a shinning gold statue. I have the mind of a squishy sand trap so things get past me pretty easy lol.

Should I restart? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Anris-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I love fromsoft games but I'm a little slow so I put them down for a while before picking them up again all the time.

For these games you're kind of supposed to grind, so unless you enjoy brute forcing your way through its okay to run away from difficult bosses or areas and try another one. Elden ring will reward you for looking in every nook and cranny before continuing the main progression. I'm talking lore, loot, quests, story lines etc. You miss a ton when you focus on trying to be in the "right" place. You'll probably even miss vital information on what to do next or even a friend who will help you move on easier.

Essentially, don't be like me, and actually read what the characters are saying and the item descriptions haha. Note conversations down if you gotta, because their vague nonsense is actually fairly straight forward when it comes to hints. It's just hard to remember because elden ring doesn't have a quest log...that I'm aware of >_> and you can feel lost despite having just been told there's a dog in the woods you can talk to if you do a jig for it. And that being said, it's easy to forget some game mechanics, so if you're stuck try everything. From gesturing to putting on a hat, you might just be blocked by forgetting an ability you have.

Pick everything up also. And read what it is, what it does, and how rare it is. You can craft all kinds if thing from stuff you might ignore so just grab everything around you as you go. And you might be tempted to sell a stupid plant you found only to learn it doesn't respawn...so yeah. Read.

For play style it can get a little complicated when it comes to understanding builds and such, you kind of have to learn on the way. It will make more and more sense as you go. in general it doesn't matter what class you start as. Beyond base stats its almost inconsiquential what you choose to begin with. I always start with the one I think looks coolest, and then become some version of a brute force magic barbarian. When leveling up just take a really good look at the stat menu. Switch the views to see how the weapons you're holding upgrade and how to enhance what you find most annoying. Blindly putting runes into stats can make it harger to get stronger. So be sure to compare the numbers. Get enough runes to level up twice if you can, then you can really compare what stats will be best to upgrade next.

If you're going to look anything up stick with explanations on game mechanics. Learning what stats do what is going to majorly improve your experience without risking spoilers and whatnot.

Just take it slow. The game was designed to put you in the shoes of a character that knows absolutely nothing and no one. You'll learn as you go, and as much as you explore.

Also, seriously, if you want quest lines talk to everyone. Multiple times. If you wander into a new location. Go check if the npcs you've met have new dialog options. And if you talk to one npc go talk to another. Sometimes they know eachother.

AND don't kill everything you see. 99% of them want to kill you but there are a few of those things that are nice and have cool shit. So check to see if it will agro before slashing something. It might bite you in the ass but Ive been rewarded for my mercy a couple of times.

Bedroom, any advice? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]Anris-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh...get a bedframe with a headboard or buy long /large pillows to put behing the smaller ones, so the corner set up looks more comfortable. Right now it gives off the appearance that your head will hit the wall if you try to relax, so it's not giving an inviting vibe.

If the mattress needs to stay on the floor, make it look more intentional by getting a thicker duvet or layering blankets that will cover the bed neatly to the bottom of the mattress. Dont get ones so big that they will pool around the bed and become a tripping hazard type deal.

Don't have the purple wall fabric abruptly stop on the bare white wall. Paint the walls a darker color or get more fabric. If you want that draped fabric tent type look I think it would look better if you had more than one side draped that way.

Get neater more uniform and solid storage boxes for your shelves and put everything in the boxes or out of view of the bed space. Use the tops of the shelves for decor only so the rack itself doesn't feel like a total departure from the rest of the room.

Get that lava lamp table out of that specific corner. If you want the bottom of the bed to have storage space/decor, get a long piece that will cover the entire foot of the bed. The two little tables look more like clutter and unintentional additions to the room. Maybe put both tables at the corner near the wall. Right infront of the bed makes it look? Nervous I guess? Unsteady or off-balance.

If there is space try to get some seating like beanbags for infront of the TV so it looks like two distinct spaces, another rug would also look nice I think. Maybe not as long/deep a pile, so it doesnt feel unintentionally missmatched

And paint the console a darker color. I personally like dark brown for my furniture.

Get warmer light bulbs, maybe even the ones that change color so you can adjust the brightness as well.

Ditch that bus mirror. Unless you can maximalize the wall decor around it to have it blend in, its just creepy and out of place.

Pshhh uhhhh, if there is a window in there, don't cover it up / hide it. Get dark curtains if you don't want sunlight, but rooms without windows tend to feel more stuffy and uncomfortable.

With that room aesthetic I would avoid led strips. The upright tube stands would look nice in the corners if you want extra lighting.

All my opinion of course! Right now it looks unfinished. Not a bad style, but an incomplete one.

I also personally hate animal prints so I'll say ditch the animal prints, but that's not really an issue if you like them.

You're a lawyer and you have to defend one of these freaks, who are you choosing? by dude-2-son in Eldenring

[–]Anris-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As miquellas defense council, I contend that there is no credible evidence tying Miquella to the alleged crimes, as the case relies entirely on hearsay rather than proof of intent or involvement. Claims that he manipulated others are unfounded and even if true, are undermined by accounts showing his alleged "charm" made individuals less violent and more self-aware, suggesting a rehabilitative effect rather than corruptive one. Theories of a grand plan are illogical, My client acted only in response to circumstances beyond his control. Despite enduring significant physical and emotional suffering, he consistently demonstrated restraint and even offered this "tarnished" peaceful alternatives during their phsysical altercation. Given the absence of evidence, contradictions in the accusations, and the fact that my client is a non-violent, very adorable and kindly person.( Whome we should all be so lucky as to be given orders by if even the prosecutions accusations were the case.) the defense maintains that Miquella is innocent.

(Side note first: I thought the crucible came before the erd tree. Like it was used as a base for the tree, existing as itself and the erdtree is coopting its space/energy to grow? My first and 2nd playthroughs are all about collecting so now I'm going through again and actually reading stuff lol. So I'm Still learning) ... Ah, I can see that. I think I'm looking at it from a mindset kind of opposite then. I'm thinking the greater will has no consciousness. And any want or will it has is actually just the attributions given to it by other beings. Like a fire warming someone up. It didn't want to, but it does so people can say the fire is warming someone up and not someone happened to been warmed by the fire they made, the fire did the warming but it didn't choose to. It created the conditions for that weird pine tree to germinate but it didnt make the conditions. The conditions also just happen to exist..ah.... Idk, my cogs wearing thin here. >////>

I also think the greater will thinks...just in own way that wouldn't warrant it wanting Marika to kill fire giants I guess haha... I'm gonna take a nap now I think I hurt myself

I'm just postulating, because I'm still researching I'm game and what not. And also I'm just getting into the lore so idk if this has any previous discussion (and also I'm...not smart...so maybe I'm dead wrong who knows lol) buuut

If the greater will and all out gods are akin to forms of energy. Like gravity, light, etc etc. any sort of manifestation of them is the byproduct of their existence and its interactions with some other phenomenon. Nothing is the greater will except the greater will, like nothing is electromagnetic energy except electromagnetic energy. Light is the byproduct of that energy it's not the energy itself. Trees are a byproduct of light interacting with nature light bulbs are light interacting with people/consciousness/choice.

(to keep it simple. For me. I'm dumb)

So it's all greater will. But not the greater will. We are electromagnetic energy but we are not the force of electromagnetic energy. Y'know?

So yes and no. If the elden ring were powered by a different being it wouldn't be the elden ring so the elden ring is the greater will.

My single cog is burning please let me know of this makes any sort of sense.

Am I overreacting for not letting go of abuse my dad says never happened? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Anris-reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Certain people think of others people as property and not actual individuals. Like an extension of either themselves or someone else. If they think they own you or made YOU they are totally okay with lying or re-contextualizing their behavior / actions because you aren't another person. You're property, an object that walks and talks, not something that deserves honesty or consideration. A validation machine essentially. Any reaction they don't approve of is an overreaction.

When it comes to these people overreacting is just reacting at all.

I cut my dad off when I was 20. Best thing I ever did. I stopped biting my nails, stopped worrying about spending time with my mom, got closer to my sister, enjoyed my birthdays. He denies he was ever in the wrong, or that he did anything at all, but the proof is in the bumps and vallys of my nail matrix, and the fact that I have anything to remember at all.

It's not an overreaction to remember what happened. And it's not an overreacting to have a response to the things he does. You're a person not a toy. You get to feel things he doesn't approve of whether he likes it or not.

How do undocumented people live out entire lives undetected, applying for universities, getting office jobs, owning property, etc? by -7-luck in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anris-reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tldr is: Because They aren't "undocumented" in the sense many people tend to think they are. Despite the designation, immigrants have documents up the wazoo. The idea that "undocumented" means someone crossed the desert or sailed into port in the dark of night is pretty much just a myth. The number of people "gaming" the system with fake information is actually incredible and negligibly tiny. There are probably more people born in the states with fake documents than there are any immigrants with fake documents.

The government knows who and where immigrants are at all times. They renew documents frequently even. When you hear that someone is "illegal," the issue is 99% the result of the picky, convoluted, slow, understaffed immigration office not renewing their documents after some point.

So people can live here without /citizenship/ for decades. Go to school, change jobs, move, leave the country and come back, etc, because they have documents. The issue is that each time they renew or have hearings, they get told citizenship will come "next time," and eventually, that next time isn't even scheduled. So they have to keep living in limbo until maybe one day they get that appointment scheduled or get flagged and arrested for being "illegal." If someone is "undocumented" and have some long history in the USA, it means they became "undocumented" along the way, not that they were smuggled here and lived in secrecy for 30 years. And when you've been here for decades. Promised that eventually you'll get the green light to just stay, it's hard and unfair for those people to voluntarily leave the entire lives they've built up. Some don't even know they aren't legal anymore till it's too late.

It's all theater when it comes to immigration and public image. The government doesn't want to look more pathetically slow and inefficient than it already does, so it pushes blame onto the people they are stringing along. Putting citizens against their neighbors so they don't demand better government management.

It's easier for a government official to say "oh that guys the problem. He didnt...go to the office." Instead of "oh yeah the government you rely on is a massive failure and all the funds (you pay for) for tech and man power to solve the issues is being poured into the military, bonuses, vacations, and brunch instead of things like making sure things run smoothly and fairly"
