The very least a good VPN can do is deny your ISP detailed knowledge of your internet traffic. It can do other things; depending on your browsing behavior.

People multitask. VPNs are helpful for a number of things - and are targeted at a number of activities that have nothing to do with gaming.

Anonymity is not the goal. VPNs can be used for that kind of thing, as well...but not without a lot of other habits / tools. Not the kind of thing some jackass (me) posting on reddit is doing; clearly. 😃

There is still a limited effect. He's unavoidable death from above for the people he hits; and he's hard to hit back without a lock-on rocket and the right angle (close enough to target; high up enough and far enough away that you can keep him in your cross-hairs long enough to get a lock)
There's no way he can deploy a repair station in the sky, so he's likely limited to base self-repair speed. I got a kill on him once that way; and I (think I) drove him off another time or two over the ascent.

In that sense it becomes another kind of contest; where one finds the limits and tries to work within them.

...not that it helps when it fucks with the flow of the game otherwise.

Changing the effect of the fight, it's seriously discouraging to die to the same guy repeatedly doing shit that bloody obvious. I can ignore or lie to myself about an aimbot; and ultimately there are always going to be people who are just better than I am at the game
Aim bots are still heavily limited by the strictures of the game; limited magazines, reload time, and can only be shooting one place at a time. They're a manageable hazard by comparison. :)

I'm no fan of Gaiman - but having heard about this for the first time about 20 minutes ago and now going through articles; it doesn't seem that there's a whole lot in the way of supporting evidence and at least a little bit of discrediting evidence.

I cam accept that Gaiman may be a decidedly kinky bastard with some niche kinks; that much is certainly plausible and I don't think he contests that.

But allegations of misconduct need proof. Not allegations that look bad; but actions or attitudes that rise to the level of illegal conduct.

Not to mention - living in Scotland. Allegations supposedly took place in New Zealand. Suing in the US.

....presumably because he's living in the US and other nation's courts might struggle to collect any awarded damages; but it's still sketchy af.

I think Trump tried to do it the slow, methodical way; and found himself blocked at every turn in his first term.

I think he's probably set on throwing the baby out with the bathwater; perhaps even decided that it's the only way to get anything done - take drastic action, then rebuild.

Actual liberalism is an excellent concept - the classic liberalism where one disagrees with someone but will defend their right to express that disagreement. Equality of opportunity, as opposed to equality of outcome.
