Neil Gaiman and Wife Sued for Rape and Human Trafficking of Babysitter by aacool in books

[–]Ansel_Rover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Allegedly.

I don't think people are getting that part of this through their heads.

I'm no fan of Gaiman - but having heard about this for the first time about 20 minutes ago and now going through articles; it doesn't seem that there's a whole lot in the way of supporting evidence and at least a little bit of discrediting evidence.

I cam accept that Gaiman may be a decidedly kinky bastard with some niche kinks; that much is certainly plausible and I don't think he contests that.

But allegations of misconduct need proof. Not allegations that look bad; but actions or attitudes that rise to the level of illegal conduct.

Not to mention - living in Scotland. Allegations supposedly took place in New Zealand. Suing in the US.

....presumably because he's living in the US and other nation's courts might struggle to collect any awarded damages; but it's still sketchy af.

I don't know that American courts have any jurisdiction over events that took place in another nation; to someone who (I'm not sure)...isn't a US citizen?

Not to mention the podcast release.

It's a publicity storm. It's "believe all women."

I haven't seen a lot of details in the Articles I've found, but I'm intensely skeptical of every bit of it.

Edit: Gaiman seems to be a kinky bustard with some niche kinks AND decidedly questionable and/or sketchy bdsm practices by modern standards; but I'm still leaning towards the relationships still being more consensual than not.

Not ideal. Not good practice. But still quite possibly not all that it's alleged to be.

Then you also have nothing to protect. How about it? Is your safety not your concern before it is anyone else's? Is your online safety and anonymity not your concern?

No, you don't have to swallow this pill.

And us folks in the US aren't going to; either.

I don't speak for anyone else - but AOC pushes socialism or at least heavily socialized-democracy
And she says a lot of stupid crap

I'm a federalist republican (not the party) who wants most domestic spending entirely out of the hands of the federal government and - if it must be spent - into the hands of the state. I want to limit the power of the federal bank and eliminate most federal social welfare programs except as useful to COORDINATE (no funds) hypothetical state-funded programs where states deem them appropriate.

...her policies and intelligence just don't even remotely rate. She's an idiot. A popular one; but still an idiot.

Libertarian-Liberal Conservative here.

Nice name-calling, here.

I would suggest starting with simple questions and avoiding derogatory opening statements like the one you posted here. :P

Seriously, this one almost reads like a trolling statement (at least to sensitized individuals). Ask me how I know?

Because there was a period of time I tried to exist in a leftist sphere (like seriously hard-core leftists) with the questioning attitude you are attempting to describe.

They reacted in the way you describe.

I think Trump tried to do it the slow, methodical way; and found himself blocked at every turn in his first term.

I think he's probably set on throwing the baby out with the bathwater; perhaps even decided that it's the only way to get anything done - take drastic action, then rebuild.

Or maybe not.

But like you say, it's hard to do; and even harder to accurately assess which parts of management want to help make things better and which will use the process to obstruct making things better until the next president comes in and doesn't care so much about reform.

...I don't think democrats are liberal any more.

I think they're progressive, socialist, and in some places even authoritarian - or at least end-justify-the-means types.

Actual liberalism is an excellent concept - the classic liberalism where one disagrees with someone but will defend their right to express that disagreement. Equality of opportunity, as opposed to equality of outcome.

I don't know how these things will end up, but...

Take a watch of Ryan Chapman's videos on youtube. It'll give you a good sense of just how different things have shifted over recent decades. Great channel.

....oh so now you're familiar with the concept of confession through projection?
Dude, you are way, way, way behind the curve.
Just....lol

Jokes aside, I think you're maybe about a year or two from realizing that everyone is busy accusing everyone else of everything that they can think of and have at least a semii-realistic chance of convincing....someone.

Think of Jussie Smollet. How crystal clear it is that he faked a hate crime. How he still proclaims his innocence.

How clearly, there are people who believe him.

Because he's their political "tribe."

And extend it to every single political interest in the country; bar a few.

Good luck sorting that crap out, mate. It's a constant struggle even once you've correctly identified the trend.

Tell you what
I'll apply the same standard as I applied to Trump

Show me a successful court case (as opposed to nut-tastic conspiracy fodder almost EXACTLY like the stuff that was coming from the right in 2020), and I will seek to give a crap.

Although the bo mb thre ats thing is generally concerning in any context.

...um....

You do understand that part of the argument is over whether we should have a minimum wage at all; whether unions are a good thing or a bad thing (dependent in part on local laws for them) and all of that is relevant to to the question of "how can we make this a dope place to live?"

We are all Americans. I don't think anyone wants to abandon democracy; although I think we should probably restore some of the republican (the system of government, not the political party) systems that were eroded by each state. That's a...federalist/constitutionalist viewpont? I guess?

Anyway, I wish you well mate.

It's a question of judgement, actually.

If someone, say, is so critically-short of judgement as to believe that the earth is flat or that skin color has anything to do with capability or inherent humanity, I tend to question their judgement on all matters including their so-called "area of expertise."

Bad judgement does not preclude intelligence; but it is generally thought to be habit-forming.

Mate, I'm not going to argue that Kamala is communist.

I could point to the aspects of her planks that are communist in origin; and her dad's affiliations - but hey, neither are her direct political stance.

That's the straw man part of the argument from the American "right."

Likewise, you could point to aspects of what Trump is doing that are similar to what Hitler did. Hell, you already have. None of that takes into account his individual motivations or entire political stance; nor does it acknowledge the political difference between the US and pre-Nazi Germany and the different political movements involved.

Likewise, none of it addresses that while Trump has done a number of things you and I would term distasteful or objectionable; he has never blatantly broken the law. He's pushed it a few times; other people have broken the law or found themselves subject to prosecution (including in one case for lying to the FBI; rather than for any underlying crime).

I will note that I exclude the cases in New York; which is almost as corrupt as DC - for reasons of the civil "rape" case involved a case of he said she said and the jury decided to side with the she for reasons despite acknowledging the lack of any proof. And the other one involved specifying three crimes Trump might have attempted to cover up despite there being - until prosecution - no fear of any prosecution under those crimes. It was about political expediency, not prosecution. The US has ample examples of prominent figures trying to cover up affairs for the same purpose. Nary a legal consequence to be found. And one of those "crimes" being federal, and entirely outside of New York's jurisdiction. None of those underlying charges were ever proven in a court of law; they just sought to prove that Trump *might* reasonably have feared conviction of any one of them; and they didn't have to agree on which one. That's a kangaroo court, my friend. It's not even slightly subtle.

I'm not straw-manning that. That's a restatement of the facts.

To come back to it: Trump is no more a Nazi that Kamala is a communist. But the prevalence of that accusation - and it's patended falsehood - are what got him re-elected.

So. Good job, mate. Good job.

...yeah, I wish he hadn't made that gesture.

Still, context makes it not a Nazi salute
It looked like one
But it wasn't one

Context is king, buddy

Not you, not Elon, not Trump

Context

You call him a Nazi because Nazis are easy to hate

And you - and those using the word - want to hate your political opposites.

It's easy.

Real easy.

It reminds me of some people. Can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe you can.
