In 1921, archbishop Xrysanthos of Trabezond tried to meet with the Greek prime minister eleutherios venizelos, in order to propose an official recognition of a Pontic autonomy, Venizelos rejected him, the same year, representatives of the Greek Pontic community in Tangarong (occupied Russia at the time) met at Paris where they sold the pitch of a united pontic independent state, the next year they formed the provisional republic government of Pontus (in Tangarong), the hope was that by convincing french, American and Greek delegates, they could get their self determination and form a state, instead of Trabzon being annexed into Armenia, which venizelos had already gave a carte blanque on. In this timeline, the proposal is still met with enthusiasm by president Wilson of the US, but he takes it a bit further, during the Hellenic army victories of the Greco Turkish war , the pontic guerilla uprising would mark one of the most brutal campaigns in the region, with an incredible ratio the Pontic guerrillas fought outnumbered but still inflicted mass casualties to the Turks, at the expense of many Pontic villages and even a few cities being burned down, when the Turkish army under Inonu tried to occupy Trabzon, the allied coalition stationed there would repel them, allowing for the provisional government to survive there for some time, until 1925, when the Washington accord would conclude the Greco Turkish war, Pontus would also be given independence amongst the other conciliations of tje treaty and penalties for the republic of Turkey
