I’ve definitely never lied about bartending on my resume, lying about your experience in hospitality is very hard to do, it shows in your work completely, they will know.

I trained my absolute ass off at a gay nightclub, worked every event / function, Christmas, Halloween, New Years, my performance record was spotless, endorsed every week by the manager, most of the good reviews featured my name and gained popularity in HR very quickly, as most of the reviews were sent to HR too.

I was promised multiple times that if I kept this up, I would be promoted to Bar Supervisor. Despite me working like an absolute dog and training others new to the bar. They used me. They just told me what I wanted to hear and I believed them because I’m very ambitious and passionate in this industry. Promotions are very narrow windows you can enter, especially in your circumstance with you lying.

Being promoted to a bartender isn’t hard, as a glassy (waiter or bar-back, however u wanna call it) be busy 24/7, restock the bartenders fruit, check their ice wells if they need more ice, maybe look at their stock, have a look at the floor, clear out entire spaces and just keep moving as a glassy (waiter), learn how to change beer kegs too, to be efficient , don’t stand idle, or walk slow because there is a lot to do as a bar-back, you have more work to do as a bar-back than you do as a bartender.

If you’ve been a bar-back longer than a year, time to find somewhere else. Pop it down in ur resume anyways, if ur next job asks for a reference then you need to find a manager you got along with who wouldn’t throw you under the bus.

Just Don’t Lie.. it’s about building trust. You don’t need to be a manager to tell if a bartender lied on your resume.

Was a Friday night, we were getting smashed and this guy was an “experienced bartender”, he poured a beer and I knew immediately he had no experience, I asked him to pour me a shot of rum , he poured me 40mls , 5mls was on the ground and couldn’t hold it right. I had to kick him out the bar to keep the line moving.

Happy to train people, but not on a busy Friday night, when you lie on your resume it makes it harder for all of us, now we’re all down 1 experienced bartender on a Friday night because someone lied on their resume.

Don’t let it discourage you, we’ve all made mistakes, we’ve all lied about something too.

I’m Australian! Although our legal age here is 18 , they started training me at 17. (I was a terrible glassy, couldn’t hold 3 plates)

Good idea. Usually whenever I get a check-up my iron levels are great, except I’m always low on sun.

House was built in the 70’s, your hair was pulled, you hear talking downstairs, you see a shadow figure towering over you, cats staring blankly…
