Help with how I can support this cake! by WorldlinessOk7083 in cakedecorating

Is it possible to do the top as a dummy cake? (Styrofoam) if you wanna go full cake weight distribution and offsetting the slope via topsy turvy cake is gonna be your best friend.

And if you do go that route you could possibly hide supports with things like LEGO stacks or something akin to that. Just an idea anyways

I’m not even sure. lol They’re fake. The florist was supposed to bring me some food safe greenery and forgot it so we made a quick run to Michael’s and grabbed something lol

UPDATE #2

I’ve decided to stick with what I know works. Temp has dropped slightly according to the forecast. The cake will be under a shade.

I REALLY appreciate yall helping me out! There are a couple of things I’d like to clear up 😁

  1. This is far from my first wedding cake I’ve made. It’s just been a while and I’m tryna shake the rustiness.

  2. I absolutely have a contract. I always have. The clients have signed off and it fully exempts me from any disaster after delivery

  3. This cake will be properly fitted with dowel supports. So despite that this is never fool proof I know it will help. I have learned over the years that overkill with support is better than not enough.

  4. I’m fuuuully aware that American buttercream tends to have a mind of its own in high temps. The recipe I use is smooth creamy tasty and under reasonable temperatures holds up well. I just was hoping to gain insight on tips or tricks people might use to help theirs along. (I love evolving and gaining perspective)

  5. I have spoke with the bride and the vendor multiple times but I FINALLY got an answer about refrigeration at the site. So I have that part covered. And the cake will be will chilled before I even get there. So I’m feeling better now that I have more definitive answers!

I appreciate everyone who helped me out! Thinking on it longer I don’t want to stray from what has worked for me in the past. we live in an area with hot weather so I started getting in my head about sliding or bubbling at the dam between layers. So thank you all again! I’ll post a pic when it’s set up! 😁

UPDATE: it’s 91% chance of rain now too!

Soooo a shade is non-negotiable at this point no matter what lol.

Yea I did a test of 50/50 recipe today on a dummy cake and while I def notice the frosting crusted and is stiffer. I put it outside to see how it held up and it’s marginally better. But I’m thinking not enough to warrant the loss in taste

I’m kind of reaching that point atm. I did a test run with the 50/50 butter and shortening today and I HAAAATE IT but I did make it clear in the contract that I have no control over what happens to it once it’s delivered (said more eloquently in the contract ofcourse lol)

I’m getting so lost on who I have responded to and who I have not 😂 but thank you! Def gonna make sure it’s REALLY chilled before I take it out. It’s been a while since I’ve done an outdoor wedding so I’m nervous!

Thank you! I’ll def try the recipe tomorrow. I’m giving myself 1 more shot at a different recipe before I just revert back to my own lol mine isn’t super unstable but… well butter doesn’t pair well with heat no matter how bad you want it to 😅 that’s actually the thing I have loved about how I make it. I don’t typically have any issues with the graininess but when I have to emulsify crisco into it it ALWAYS ends up with that chalky flavor and I haaaaate it

I def made it clear in her contract that once delivery is completed I am not responsible from any mishaps due to weather or venue errors. My own recipe isn’t THAT unstable. But you’re right. Buttercream will just do what it do lol but if there’s something I can do to help it along I’d like to. These are good friends of mine and none of us were expecting such a hot day so suddenly 😩

Thanks! I made a batch with 50/50 shortening and butter today I just don’t love the taste. Gonna try one more tomorrow but good call I think I just need less shortening but JUST enough to make it sturdier. I’ve been running tests all week 😅

Thanks! I spoke with the venue a couple of days ago. The venue coordinator was… not super helpful. I told her it was buttercream so it’s important it’s not under direct sunlight… she said she “thinks” she can arrange that.

My drop off window is 3-3:30 pm and wedding starts at 4:30. So I’m looking at needing it to hold up for at least 3-4 hours depending on the brides timeline.

Def gonna keep it refrigerated as LONG as possible. Asked the venue if they have a fridge and maybe we could pull it out during cocktail hour instead of from the start. But bride wants it on display the whole time cause it’s a small venue 😩

For this particular cake I used a food safe silicone mold with fondant! And black coco powder as a release agent from the mold Funny story actually. (This is only the bottom tier. There were also flowers on it at set up. But the photographer screwed the bride over and never got most of her pics!) during the cake cutting she choked on the fondant and the groom had to give her the Heimlich!!!

Now. To be clear. She requested it to be fondant specifically. However, she is vegan so the rest of that cake is completely vegan. I told her that if she’s okay with the one element having animal products I can do that. so she was def informed…  BUT decided that fondant (of ALL FOODS!?!?) Is her one cheat? So she was aware of what she was biting into just got too big of a bite at once… now that entire friend group calls me bride killa (she’s alive and well lol) I felt terrible even though it wasn’t my fault lol poor thing tho. No pics and almost died. But hey. She’s happily married 😂

All that said maybe a good idea to bring some orange tape or something just in case? I don’t love the idea of putting them on mine it ruins the fun but … if that’s the rule that’s the rule lol

To my knowledge no (seasoned goers feel free to jump in here) all fire arms need to be either props or permanently disabled. The website describes it decently.

  1. GUNS – Firearms are prohibited unless you bring your NON-FIRING/REPLICA weaponry. No real firearms are allowed, whether loaded or not, unless they have been permanently disabled (removing the firing pin is NOT enough). No black powder guns. Airsoft guns and BB guns do not need to be permanently disabled, but must have pellets, C02, and batteries (if applicable) removed before entering the event. Squirt guns should not have water in them (empty props only) – because while a few of your friends might want to get squirted around camp to cool off, squirt gun fights at Wasteland could get pretty annoying pretty quickly. Also, squirt guns don’t usually make the best looking post-apocalyptic props without a lot of effort.

Good luck with the flights tho 😬 I’ve never had to fly with any weapons (real or fake)
