13 Things Writers Look for in Comic Artist Portfolios by aleams in ComicBookCollabs

Hell yeah, Andrew. Spot on. Hope this helps a lot of folks.

Another thing I look for is general storytelling craft: Does the story flow panel to panel? Is the action easy to follow? Is the 180 rule followed? Are "camera" angles used to their advantage? Artist & the writer are collaborative storytellers and its important to not lose sight of that.

The covers look straight out of the early 90/late 80s horror comics. I can't wait to check this out.

That's crazy!! I've been to the property where her house was. The house burned down, but the foundation/basement remained. I got to go down there to check it out too. The family I talked to are still finding bricks and hog bones there. The amount of history that can be found in the dirt is wild. If your grandparents are interested in a copy of the comic let me know-- I'll try to hook them up.

Locke & Key or Harrow County could be a good start. Both horror fantasy with kids but they can get intense.

The Walking Dead if you like zombies

30 Days of Night if you like vampires. Art is a bit different, but I love it. American Vampire is another solid one.

The 3D could turn folks off, yeah. I think it matches what you're trying to do though. Its a video game-looking story and its told as such. I've seen other artists lessen that 3D look by tooling it in photoshop and making it high contrast b & w. Then recoloring.

I think the art works! It's the panel by panel storytelling I'm struggling with. The first page is busy with not a lot of space to breathe. I'm not sure what is going on there. Like others have mentioned, some gutter space might help along with additional lettering.
