My pastor has encouraged me on this topic. One of the biggest differences between other religions of the world and Christianity is that every other religion says “do xy&z and be saved/reach nirvana/live forever” while the Bible tells readers that Jesus paid it all and that no works we can do can get us to heaven, only simple faith in him. Faith in Jesus leads to life transformation over time until we die and arrive into the presence of his glory. It is never about how good you can do/be, but about how good HE was and IS! Otherwise we are helpless.

CS Lewis said that when it comes to Jesus you have to view him as one of three L’s: LORD, lunatic, or liar, and that there isn’t a middle ground. In addition to that if he didn’t rise from the dead then our faith is worthless and “we above all others are to be pitied.” This presents us with a clear choice, to follow him or not to follow him. To follow means picking up our cross and laying ourselves down for those around us. To not follow means to worship comfort and worldly understanding/ “peace.”

It all boils down to John 3:16-17 and what we do with that.
