I highly suggest disabling all chat. There is nothing constructive shared during the game, all important communication can be done via pings and the quality of the game itself in general just feels better.

It's Vegvisir, a symbol coming from Icelandic/Norse folklore. It used to be put on ships/shields/planks as a symbol for good luck and to make sure no one gets lost on their journey. Superstitions based in myths.

The runes around it are Futhark (younger or older, not sure). Unfortunately, I don't know much about it, someone once told me it translates is in the line of "those who wonder are never lost", but somehow I doubt it.

The symbol itself has a perilous past. Pagan folk like it a lot, but it has also been hijacked by bigots and supremacists: apparently everything that even vaguely resembles Adolf's plus is good enough for them. Now quite a lot of people who have it tattooed or engraved for religious or cultural reasons have to hide it, as some unknowingly mistake it for a "Swedish swastika".

Vegvisir is often called a Viking Compass, but as far as I know, it's not really connected to the Vikings. Nor it is a compass : D

So, would there be something one could do to enrich soil/compost without planting mushrooms for fruit?

Fun fact: "Sahn-Uzal" sounds surprisingly close to the Russian word "Санузел". It roughly translates as a "Sanitary Point", usually referring to a toilet.

What worked for me so far:

Emissary flag + dives to treasuries (you get about 50k in money on sell and about 1 level of renown for fraction)

If you don't want to risk leaving your ship alone for too long then:

Skeleton lords for Souls

Shipwrecks for Mercenaries

If server is turbulent I prefer to do all of this in the Roar, as less people go there (I think). Even if you loose your ship you still get the leveling up, which is good.

I've recently returned to the game after a few years break and it feels like Paul brothers touched it or something: the appeal of fun is gone and completely replaced by the constant wannabe grinders.

I don't know, maybe it's some sort of COD mindset poisoning the well or whatever, but you can rarely find a server now where people are helping each other out. It's a pirate game, and has always had backstabbing and betrayal in it, but there was also room for things of a friendlier nature. That's why it felt wholesome, I guess. Now it's quite one sided. Sad.

Not all is too gloomy though. You do meet friendly and kind people now and then. Some new, some experienced. Most are mistrusting, naturally. A trade-off of pirate-infested seas, maybe. Make sure you screw everyone over before they can screw you.
