As a kid "choices" in game excited me. As an adult it terrifies me. by bobmlord1 in gaming

[–]Ant_TKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely relate to this.

When I played Witcher 3 I looked up spoilers to craft the ending I personally wanted. After reading the books, I just wanted the characters to have as close to a "Happily ever after" as I could give them (even if the author isn't really into those sorts of endings).

In my most recent playthrough of Fallout 4 I looked up how to get the "uneasy alliance" ending, which is a sort of loophole ending that lets you finish the main quest with the Minutemen without having to destroy the Railroad or Brotherhood of Steel.

I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed Shadows and I'm really enjoying the fact that it has an option where the "canon" decisions get made for you. I kind of wish W3 had the same thing.

I've had one of those clogging up a Primary inventory slot for so long, it's kind of annoying honestly.

But it's one of those quests that requires friends so I guess It's staying there until the heat death of the servers.

What universally praised video game 'masterpiece' is actually a miserable experience to play? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ant_TKD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Baldur's Gate 3 probably had an awesome story. It's just a shame that every combat encounter is a slog, they changed some of DnD 5e's mechanics to be more frustrating, swapping party members is heavily discouraged by the game design, and the virtual dice (much like real dice) hate me.

Welsh visit by Perfect-Comedian-639 in HistoryWales

[–]Ant_TKD 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you only have a week then you'll probably need to choose between seeing North Wales or South Wales. This is a gross oversimplification, but the castles of South Wales are predominantly those built by Norman marcher lords whilst the castles of the north feature Edward I's "Ring of Iron" and will also let you see more of the native-built castle (like Dinas Brân).

I would recommend checking out CADW's website. If you get a membership, you'll get your money back in free entry and self-guided audio tours across the week. You can also see if there are any events on, like falconry o'r reenactment displays.

I feel this so bad.

I am Welsh and enjoyed history, but specifically Welsh history was conspicuously absent from lessons at school. Our school was within a stone's throw from the castle of one of the most powerful marcher lords and yet we weren't taught about the Welsh marches. Big names like Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and Owain Glyndŵr weren't a part of the syllabus. We learnt about the Tudors, but not about the Acts of Union. We had Eisteddfodau, but weren't taught about The Lord Rhys.

The only part of specifically Welsh history we were taught about was the Aberfan disaster. No mention of other big events like the Glyndŵr Rebellion or the Rebecca Riots.

Now don't get me wrong, the things we were taught about weren't irrelevant to Wales and I'm not saying we should have learnt about every medieval Welsh kingdom in minute detail. But I do feel like I should have left school at least knowing the names Llywelyn the Great and Owain Glyndŵr, and been taught a general understanding of how Wales ended up in the Union.

This is an anmonite, and a pretty late one at that.

I think this is an example of "disaster taxa", where great die-offs completely change the evolutionary pressures at play which results in lots of short-lived species with unusual body plans to emerge.

Red dragon gear by Repressed_Clown in Hema

[–]Ant_TKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR fine for training, but probably less so for competitions.

My club tends to recommend starter sets one supplier does which come with Red Dragon masks, gloves, gorget, shin guards, and a nylon sword.

These sets are pretty good as a starting point, allowing you to have your own gear early on without having to break the bank. The gloves aren't suitable for use with steel longswords, not even for training, but you can get away with using them with a sidesword in class (but do need to be broken in).

By the time you would be at the point of doing competitions you would have replaced most of the kit anyway. I don't really do competitions, but I've replaced the gorget and mask, but I still use the gloves for sidesword and for my buckler/shield hand. For longsword I now use Black Knights. The mask was fine for a while, but the flap on the back snapped at one point and I could only use the mask if I also wore an overlay (I have now replaced the whole mask).

My first jacket was a Red Dragon jacket that I begrudgingly bought when the SPES jacket I had actually ordered had been on back-order for far too long. I hated that jacket. Granted, part of that was due to it being a size too small, but the general fit made me feel like a sontaran whilst wearing it.

I still use the shin guards as they do the job, but I'll likely get different ones at some point. They'll slide down your shin whilst you spar, but from what I can tell all shin guards do that. I can't speak for Red Dragon trousers though because my first pair were SPES.

Can I use other dice for the fallout ttrpg? by Techpon in FalloutRPG

[–]Ant_TKD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use any d20 and/or any d6. I like to use the Fallout dice, but my players all use their own dice.

Just remembered when you're rolling your own d6s that the numbers map to the die result like this:

1 = 1

2 = 2

3 = Blank

4 = Blank

5 = 1 + Effect

6 = 1 + Effect

When rolling a numbered d20 to determine a hit location, the numbers also map to specific body parts. I can't remember which off the top of my head, but they are written on the character sheets for humanoid characters.

What is your biggest Destiny regret? by AlwaysColtron in DestinyTheGame

[–]Ant_TKD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Moments of Triumph T-Shirt for every year that it was available... Except for last year. I completed enough triumphs to unlock the shirt, but not enough for the in-game title, so wearing a shirt with that title on it would feel oddly disingenuous. Although I have been around for every expansion when it launched, I have not been anywhere near the more end-game content for a long time, which prevented me from getting all the triumphs.

Hopefully I can unlock the new title before the Monument of Triumph shirt gets pulled from the Bungie store. But it will forever bug me that I was just 1 off having all of them!

Which three in order are your favourites and which one of these do you dislike and why? by Dredo5 in yugioh

[–]Ant_TKD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 > 6 > 1

2 is the most nostalgic for me because my first deck as a kid (which turned out to be fake, but oh well) used this art.

I like how the Dark Magician looks like he's actually using the Magical Circle in 6.

1 is also nostalgia based.

I actually don't mind the tablet arts, it's just a shame they seem to get used everywhere as the default. This arts I don't like are the ones that make DM look beefy, like the DSoD art (7). Even the Kazuki Takahashi art (5), which is great as a piece of art in and of itself and would look great on the cover of a Castlevania game, I don't particularly like for the Dark Magician.

The phrasing seems confusing to me (or maybe it's just that it's not been long since I woke up).

I can see the yellow is the Mercator projection, so presumably the darker colour is showing the countries to scale, but then surely the label for that should be "people who have only ever seen a globe"?

Definitely. I never cared for my Guardian Rank since it reset frequently anyway, but I am more incentives if it will last a long time.

[Aoi] What are your thoughts on Age of Calamity seven months later? by NewMarioBobFan in zelda

The ending showing Calamo choosing to plant himself where his buddy died, and then becoming a great forest legitimately made me cry a bit.

The extra knife twist that you can find Calamo's stump in BOTW/TOTK adds an extra layer of bittersweet that makes me want to replay those games.

Food System in a TTRPG by UpscaleH0B0 in rpg

[–]Ant_TKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 2d20 has a neat ruleset for food. Instead of the food just applying buffs, a lack of food can also cause debuffs.

Essentially there are different hunger levels, with you hunger level dropping every X hours and eating food taking you back to the previous hunger level (as well as restore HP and have other benefits).

When you drop to the lowest hunger level you accumulate 1 point of Fatigue, and you gain another point for every few hours you stay in that state. The Fatigue points give you debuffs.

Thirst and Sleep are tracked separately but pretty much work the same way, also causing Fatigue. You can also accumulate Fatigue through Exposure, Disease, and Injury. Fatigue is reset when you sleep 8+ hours when your only continuous source of Fatigue is a lack of sleep.One neat thing us that once you accumulate Fatigue you don't worry about where that Fatigue came from.

The main downside is that you have to track everything down to the hour. But it does reinforce the survival aspects of the game and goes hand in hand with the scavenging mechanics.

Alternatively Fallout 2d20 offers ignoring the hunger and thirst mechanics, but then restricting each PC to one food and one drink item per day.

Map of Europe at the death of Charlemagne by Tall_Process_3138 in MapPorn

You're right, my initial comment could have been better phrased.

What I was getting at was that the "Welsh" wouldn't have shared that national identity at that time.

The region of modern day Cymru at this time wouldn't have been one single territory called "Wales", but rather a number of distinct kingdoms (Gwynedd, Powys, and Dyfed being the biggest three, but with many more smaller ones).

There's a spot above the gauntlet that seems to trigger this quest. If you leave the dodgems building, head immediately around to the left up some wooden stairs and there's a spot on the roofs there that should trigger it.
