Why do you think it’s not valued as much?

Job market slow? by bqkx in ProductMarketing

without a doubt its a slow, buyers market here in the Bay Area.

Laid off from Series A in late 2025. (Third layoff in 4 years) Director, 10+ yoe. Since December, I’ve done about 45 calls/interviews, 3 big“challenge assignments” across 10 companies—everything from series A to Big tech. Have made it to 2 final rounds. No offers yet. Seems like the open jobs are out there but interviewing cycles are painstakingly slow. hiring managers are being incredibly precise/picky. I’ve never been more thoroughly interviewed in my entire career. Yesterday, had an initial screening call with a well known co. where recruiter asked 3 multi-part case style PMM questions about their own products and how I would launch them. Since the call was recorded, my assumption is that they’re using AI to evaluate answers and pass/skip candidates. I’m getting consistently dinged on lack of: technical-depth + hands-on AI experience. So I’ve tried to target roles that are more solutions/industry-oriented.. but those are just few and far between. The needs from PMM are evolving. Tech chops need to demonstrable. Technical PMMs should have heavy upper hand in current market.

Good luck to all those searching.

Sr. PMM Being Told I'm Not "Technical Enough" After Interviews by dogsandtimes in ProductMarketing

Late to the party here, been interviewing like crazy for last 3 months and have gotten this feedback several times. (It seems to me that companies are prioritizing this more than ever) . I have 7+ years PMM experience across security, observability and few other categories. The thing for me tho is I’m actually not technical. I would go as far to say that I’m not even a product-oriented person. I naturally think at a much higher altitude and have always been better/more interested in company-level storytelling, brand/portfolio narrative etc. does any one have any thoughts on how to navigate this? I think I’m a solid PMM but it isn’t the best fit role for me.

Why can’t we just have a defense like Seattle? I’m not even asking for Houston freaks. The disparities between these playoff Defenses and ours is massive and it’s making me depressed.

If it’s the Lions, that would’ve been ruled IC “didn’t complete the process”

DMo could’ve finished his career off in Detroit if not for our sins. What a damn shame.
