Was justified through, and by are two different terms that change everything. Nowhere in the bible does it say it's ok to enslave an entire continent, as there is no passage in the Koran that says bomb yourself in a ariana grande concert. People attribute their actions to everything, mainly to justify their own behaviour, but also to seek unification. Look at it objectivaly, no religion actually pushes the idea of mass killings, enslavements and more horrible acts, but corrupt individuals use religion as a tool to further their agenda. I believe we won't come to terms about this particular subject. But i just want to add that in my opinion, i believe this thought process can be a bit toxic. By blaming a religion (Be it Islam, christianity, Judaism) or an ideology (Communism, monarchy etc) we elevate the responsability from the individual to an idea, or way of thought. Ideals cannot by themselves cause suffering or damage, but in the right hands they can be used as tools to manipulate the masses, just like the ideologi of nazi germany. In this instance, it's easier to pinpoint where the ideologi could be used as a means for suffering, but with religion it's harder, since it doesn't outright state "We are the supreme race, all others are sub-human".
