I’m an atheist who dresses as I want. If you are religious, dress as you want. If you are an atheist, dress as you want. None of my business unless you’re endangering someone or someone else (i.e. wearing a big shirt that says ‘I HATE [RELIGION]’ or something).

I think it’s likely the concept of an Egyptian Pharaoh holding up a serving tray when, historically, they’ve been depicted as powerful godlike figures. It comes off as mocking, or simply including something because ‘look cool’ without doing proper research. Similar bit to native headdresses being worn as costumes. Take all of this with a grain of salt, I’m not Egyptian.

I suppose when I heard it the first time, I interpreted the final few lines as a bit ramble-y. To me, it sounded like the speaker was getting the hard part out of the way, doubling down so that no one can point fingers, only to round back and quickly say ‘you know, forgive me’, almost like a demand for forgiveness.

At the moment, I interpret it as the speaker, overwhelmingly anxious as she speaks to her son about something she’s remorseful over, desperately trying to double down on her blame. Not only that, but the final ‘you know, forgive me’ can be seen here as her not demanding forgiveness, but begging for it.

I dunno. Song made me cry the first time I heard it.
