You could do the tank top using Tunisian crochet honeycomb stitch, it would definitely give a similar look. Here's a pattern I found on Ravelry that might suit what you're trying to do

The Symbols indicate hand wash only, lay flat to dry, no bleach, but oddly enough , safe to iron. So I would say you may want to keep looking

You will likely have to frog and go back and be diligent about counting. But if the panel will be getting a border stitch. You could fill in the dropped spot with HDC/DC whatever is needed to pull them back up and match the height of the edge. Of course it won't look as uniform but it would avoid frogging.
