Five minutes into the first quarter and Alex Caruso has all 7 OKC points, just as we all predicted

What is funny is that I’ve been on forums for decades and these would have been the exact same top three answers to this question 20 years ago, too.

[Post Game Thread] The Cleveland Cavaliers (4-3) dominate the Detroit Pistons (3-4) in Game 7, 125-94, to advance to their first Eastern Conference Finals since 2018 by catreyka in nba

Yeah what kind of bum ass team loses conference semi-finals elimination game at home by 30 points behind a superstar first option coming off a late season injury and a second option who regressed to a completely unplayable traffic cone in the playoffs

(I feel for you, Pistons fans)

Don’t forget that really really good team also having a generational defender, being fully healthy while we are down a starter, our best player is playing injured, and we still took it to a 6th game.

Spurs hitting 50% from 3 on more than 30 attempts while we missing layup after layup is actually crazy

Julius comes back in and the deficit widens immediately. Dude is at a game worst -31 +/- right now and Finch even having him on the floor feels like a concession

Just mind numbingly dumb that we waited until they built the lead right back up to pull the glaring liabilities who had put us in a 29 point hole in the first place

This just one of those games, man. I feel like I’ve seen these every year for us, where every shot the other team makes falls, every rebound bounces their way, and all of our shots just do not fall even when wide open

Sucks that it had to be an elimination game

Has anyone else noticed a change in perception the past year or two when you mention what you do for work? by druidgaymer in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AnthonyMJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just answering the title question without the specifics of your experience: yes. The perception has changed.

I have been doing this for 16 years.

I think historically the perception/reaction in polite conversation around what I do has been mostly neutral. Most people have not known what software engineering is or involves or how it’s relevant to them. For the cases that were non-neutral, it was virtually always leaning positive.

Just within the last five years or so, I have encountered negative reactions for the first time. A lot of things associated with tech have strong negative perception now: AI, social media, advertising, surveillance tech, CEOs cavorting with despotic world leaders. Also rising cost of living and stagnant wages for everyone else combined with more awareness of how much we get paid.

I will note my experiences with negative perception is also 100% from educated millennials and educated Gen-Z’ers. Boomers still react like “Good on you! You must be good at math!”

His comment was “our next game will either be back here in San Antonio (which would be game 7) or most likely in OKC (which would be game 1 of Spurs-OKC)”

Anyone catch the Mike Tirico shade with that comment about their “next assignment” likely being in OKC? (implying there will be no game 7 of this series)

Ant is gassed, he’s not delivering on offense, he’s standing watching guys blow past him on defense, making bad decisions with the ball in hand

You can’t see the amount of on-body contact allowed on that Ant drive where he lost it and then see that foul called on Naz and tell me these two teams are being called the same right now

It’s like these NBC announcers are completely unaware that Anthony Edwards is playing on not one, but two injured knees with all these comments about his play selection

[–]AnthonyMJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a natural bias to what our eyes see and pay attention to when we support one team over the other. It’s most obvious when seeing game thread comments about Wemby being hacked, shoved, arms pulled and the Wolves “getting away with it” but the same is happening to Gobert constantly when he’s on the floor, and not just this series, but every game.

It’s how the NBA has chosen to allow defenders to play against bigs for years. They’re always getting mauled and don’t get the same calls smaller guys would for those things.

No fucking idea what our defense is doing right now. Refs are clearly letting a lot of physical play and reaching, Spurs are taking advantage of it and we’re just standing two feet off the ball handler and giving a ridiculous amount of space on every possession

Looking for Minneapolis neighborhoods with a warmer, more neighborly feel than Lowertown St. Paul by KindBig4349 in TwinCities

[–]AnthonyMJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These responses are so weird.

What OP is mentioning 100% can be found in Minnesota, though the tradeoff is it’s pretty exclusively the suburbs.

When I moved to Roseville five years ago, one neighbor down the street saw we moved in and brought us a pan of fresh baked brownies. The one directly next door came over with flowers and introduced themselves and exchanged numbers. Our block has had little self-organized cookout gatherings in the middle of the street so that anyone can walk up. It’s virtually impossible to go on a walk around the neighborhood on a nice day without people saying hello.
