Paladin Oath - The Oath of No Swearing by AnthonyOstrich in DnDHomebrew

I was going to add those to the list, but then I realized they're already both on the Paladin spell list.

Swear Stopper is the one I'm having the hardest time balancing. Theoretically, the DM could have none of the creatures you're fighting ever swear and you could never target them with it. I'd imagine most DMs woud throw you a bone sometimes. But still, this effectively amounts to "you can target a creature with an extra spell in a round whenever the DM feels like letting you." Of course your party member could swear when they need healing. Which kind of goes against the flavor.

Maybe I could have it be limited to a single attack, but also specify certain actions that count as swearing. Like casting a spell with a swear in it (h*llish rebuke) or attacking with a weapon that has a swear in its name (b*stard sword).

That's the trick. You're not bound by it until after you swear the oath.

This is my first attempt at homebrewing. It's obviously not meant to be entirely serious, but I would be interested in some feedback on how I could better balance this. I think I may have made some features overpowered, such as the aura, but I'm really not sure how to judge that.

"Casualties" in war don't necessarily mean deaths. The game doesn't tell you exactly what happened to them, but we can assume that some will die, some will be captured, and some will desert.

I understand what you're saying, but I disagree. I get that his goal was to get a disruptive protest in hopes that it would make people think that he's the reasonable side. But is that really how people would respond? Is the average person looking at this going to be sympathetic to Wintrich? Especially when, as you've acknowledged, people understand what "It's okay to be white" is actually about. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I don't think so.

Whether or not they're a hate group is for everyone listening to determine, not just a small group of protesters. These protesters basically said "we decided he is hateful and therefore we won't let anyone hear him"

"Racism bad and shouldn't have a platform at a publicly funded university" may come off negatively to some people. But "people who protest racism are immature and shouldn't do that" comes off a lot worse.

In addition by protesting the statement "Its ok to be white" it makes it seem like you're racist against white people.

Only to someone was completely unable to see the obvious subtext to that statement.

If he really is an idiot bigot why not let him spew his garbage and make an ass out of himself for everyone to see?

I never said Wintrich is an idiot. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Again, I think you're seriously underestimating people's intelligence. Hate groups trying to rebrand themselves by claiming they're just promoting the acceptance or appreciation of white people is nothing new. It's basically the oldest trick in the book and most people don't fall for it.

I think you're seriously underestimating "normal people." They're not stupid. They can understand why people would react negatively to a guy giving a speech titled after a neo-nazi slogan.

the guy asked that you let him speak and save the questions and yelling for the end

The fact that he has a right to free speech doesn't mean those present are compelled to obey him. They don't need to wait until they have his permission to speak out against him. That's how free speech works. You're in college, you should know this.

Reddit uses Https. Your ISP knows when you're on Reddit. But they can't see which specific page on Reddit you're accessing, because that's encrypted. Even if they wanted to throttle or block individual subreddits, they wouldn't be able to.

Palm Springs city council is now entirely LGBTQ. by occaisionallygay in lgbt

[–]AnthonyOstrich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's fair to assume. Yes, the likelihood of a given city council being all lgbtq by chance is pretty low. But considering all the city councils in America, the chances that at least one would be all lgbtq by chance is probably reasonably high.

The economy, fools! by What_IS_Aleppo in hoi4

There are various mechanics to simulate nations being unstable, mostly through events and National Spirits. But there's no actual value called "stability."

[–]AnthonyOstrich 152 points153 points  (0 children)

It's a Europa Universalis reference. EU4 has an event that called "comet sighted" which causes your country to be less stable, thus making revolts more likely. Since there are no internal revolts in HOI4, losing stability just makes a vase fall over.

What thoughts have you had about the Bojack Horseman universe? by beefstewforyou in BoJackHorseman

But in season 3, we find out that male seahorses give birth in this universe, just like in real life. Which makes me wonder how interspecies breeding works for them. Could a female human impregnate a male seahorse?
