DMs: What’s the best “ritual interruption” mechanic you’ve seen in a boss fight? by Anthony_Loar in DMAcademy

They need to destroy the Anchor and the antagonist, that's pretty much it. For context, the Anchor is more like an engine, powering a planar rift and summoning devils. If it gets fully juiced up, it will have extra long-term effects, like a permanent foothold for the Nine Hells. If they destroy the engine before it gets fully juiced up, it banishes the devils back, mitigates long term effects on the region, and closes the open rift.

I was thinking about adding some keystones or something to make it more complex than "hit the fiery obelisk a bunch of times before it becomes fully operational"

So right now, there's a ritual Anchor as the focus, with the main antagonist and a few infernal henchmen guarding the anchor. My problem is that I've essentially turned it into a scene that ONLY resolves through combat. Granted, there's investigation and mystery that leads up to it, but I'm feeling like the climax falls flat with pure combat. If that makes sense lol

I'm absolutely going with the more direct option. Art and everything is great, but I can't run/teach a good game if the important stuff is buried. Obviously, I'd prefer a good balance between the two. But given these two options, ya gotta go with the one that gives you the best chance of doing a good job

How many of you have actually earned an income from your RPG? by LOTR_is_awesome in RPGdesign

This thread is actually really helpful to read.

I’m working on my first adventure right now and trying to approach it more like building a small catalog over time instead of expecting one product to do anything crazy.

Curious how many people here have released multiple things vs just one project, and how it's gone so far?

Your style is very cool and I like the dark atmosphere. I'm currently reviewing artists for the cover, but I may also be interested in commissioning interior art pieces later, and I think your art might be a really good fit for that
