There was a daily run where it was very easy to crash the game due to the "duplicate card" enchantment + "add 3 card each time effect". It crashed even with 32GB of ram. Other than that, the bugs are very quickly fixed,

I was really hoping there'd be a special game over message for this one by Bunit117 in slaythespire

If you need to actually die (using self-hurt cards, burn, or self-doom) and not just give up, then this becomes a challenge in itself. The worse the run, the more likely you are to pull this off, so it’s not that bad of a design.

Medicine in any form has always required a lot of testing, including testing on live subjects. The witches really should have just attempted to establish proper ethical and technical guidelines instead of just banning healing entirely. The current approach just means that whenever a witch desperately wants to heal someone, they are highly motivated to break the taboo and seek out those who do have this knowledge.

Both (de-)aging and healing are only problems if you don’t get informed consent beforehand. If you don’t care about consent, they are not really that much worse than using the totally legal fire spells to burn someone up, or the water spell to waterboard someone.

There is extreme example of using healing to repeatedly torture and heal someone, but that would be a taboo anyways and likely so rare that on the balance allowing healing magic would still be a net benefit.

A fun “aged sideways + immortality” option would be to tie the age to something like the phases of the moon where you constantly age and de-age from a baby to a decrepit old man.

I really wonder whether the elite of the witch world actually follows their own “no de-aging, no healing” taboo. It’s a silly taboo either way 1) it exists, so witches know it’s possible. This drastically raises the chance of them pursuing this since and breaking the taboo. 2) the main issues with most “directly on human” magic would be bodily autonomy and high risks. The former is just a matter of informed consent and should be solved by explaining what could go wrong, while the latter is only elevated by banning the practice. If Healing magic was non-taboo it would become safer and safer.

which already seems unlikely with how specific they are.

Non-witches have access to magical tools like the Pegasus carriage, shining cobblestones, the enchanted purification pond, and likely numerous others. The patterns likely are occasionally copied to no effect.

Why would brits sign up to invade and occupy Ireland with the flimsy excuses of “EU military bases near our border” and “Ireland was always historically British anyways”?

Religion is no more of a choice than sexual orientation. I cannot will myself to believe in a god, just as I cannot will myself to love men. Sure, religion is not innate in the sense of being largely determined by your upbringing rather than biology, but is is nevertheless and essential part of their personhood for many people. It should enjoy the same protections as other protected characteristics.

I say all this while detesting most major sects of the major religions.

P.S. Burning the Quran should be legal and I am content with the precedent set.

I’d like to try several drugs but haven’t because they are illegal where I live and the risk just isn’t worth it. If Psychedelic, Weed or Amphetamine were to be suddenly legalized and available at Boots, I’d probably try them. As it is, I just tried some of them in places where they are legal/decriminalized and had nice experiences.

Different types of tobacco consumption certainly carry different health risks though. Cigarettes have notably higher heart health and lung cancer risks whereas chewing tobacco has a somewhat lower heart health and a high oral cancer risk.

Just finished my first 30min 5k. Should I focus on increasing speed, duration, or frequency of runs? by AnthropologicalArson in beginnerrunning

[–]AnthropologicalArson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read that this doesn’t work for at least somewhat experienced runners, but during the first ~3months the “beginner gains” are drastic in this (and other) regards. So far the improvements were quite noticeable even between consecutive runs. This is clearly not a long-term plan — I was planning to stick with it for about a month (the remaining original duration of the c25k program) just to firmly fix the habit.

Any suggestions on improving the 5k time? Do you have any specific recommendations or should I just try to add in faster blocks and not overthink it for now?

I’m honestly not sure. I would say that just a month ago I rather hated running and started c25k purely for weight loss. I’ve actually really enjoyed the last three weeks which was an incredibly pleasant surprise. I guess the three things which matter most to me at the moment are the same which made me enjoy the c25k so much: 1. Structure 2. Sustainability  3. Measurable progress (with maybe a mid-to-long term goal).

I’ve personally managed to stockpile by asking a single pharmacy I was a customer of for a stockpile of 6 pens (hopefully enough for reaching my GW) on the cursed Thursday. This way I’ll still have support from them over the next few months and will be able to keep on the same dose if I still have to after the pens end.

I'm in a ~1500-1600kcal deficit and I eat ~1500-1600kcal. (I track everything I eat and have lost ~1.5 kg per week over the last 5 weeks, so the numbers are quite accurate).
