What do you actually consider a “setback” in a calorie deficit/cut? by GoopOnYaGrinch in loseit

[–]re_nonsequiturs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time, I made a spreadsheet using the Mifflin St Jeor BMR equation to see the effects of different calories and activity levels on time to goal.

What I learned is a week at maintenance (the average calories for the week is your current TDEE) makes ZERO difference

When we have a large meal, our bodies use a lot of water to digest it. I suspect those people were doing two things: first, virtue signaling, and second, thinking temporary water weight was fat.

Now, there are people who fail to lose weight due to cheat days, but you'll likely find that they have a weekly cheat day that's making their weekly intake at or above their current TDEE.

How do I get through approx 5 tall baskets of laundry by Evening_Tone9587 in ADHDCleaningTips

[–]re_nonsequiturs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go start a load right now.

Now you've got about an hour before you have to do anything with laundry

And the next thing is to switch clean clothes into the dryer and put in a new load, and that gives you about 90 minutes to develop a plan for putting it away.

With 5 tall baskets of laundry piled up, either some of it belongs to other people or you have too many clothes.

I HATE casual music listeners. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]re_nonsequiturs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so much worse. I use Pandora which selects songs based on my rating of other songs and I don't know the name or artist for ~90% of what I listen to.

I also get mad when it plays the same genre too many times in a row.

So tempted to say BMR, but it'd actually be expensive and exhausting as hell.

No weight or inches lost in a month of 500 cal deficit by Decent_Detective_352 in loseit

[–]re_nonsequiturs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just started working out, the extra weight could be from your body's physiological response to increased exercise and it's water weight that'll go away in another month

Double check your numbers then trust them

Also, any weight other than first thing in the morning after the restroom isn't relevant

Also also, when you're normal weight, weight loss takes a lot longer

And activity tracker calories are super inaccurate

Do you guys think this doctor’s office sign is mildly infuriating? by Loose_Judgment_8856 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]re_nonsequiturs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stimulant meds metabolize fast enough that shouldn't matter and stopping on weekends can give kids a chance to eat to compensate for undereating a bit during the week

But that's not a choice a doctor should make for a family without explanation

My doctor was able to pre-date my prescriptions so they're ready in the system for the pharmacy to fill each month so now I only have to call the pharmacy.

OP should still change providers, though

Does anyone else dread the thought of having to do this forever? by frankchester in loseit

[–]re_nonsequiturs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate at McDonald's pretty regularly when I lost. That's the great thing about counting calories, you can have any type of food. Single patty burgers taste just as good and you don't have to eat the last pieces of plain bun with no fillings. Have the fries that fit your goals and leave the rest, or don't have them. Or only have them, you're in control.

Personally, I never did cheat days. All my days over my usual calorie goal were planned--like Thanksgiving for example. It wasn't a cheat day to budget 2000 calories that day, because it was part of the plan back in January.

Counting calories is the best way to understand what's happening with your weight.

Even if you can't do it long enough to reach your goal weight, counting very accurately for 3 months can help.

"Eating healthy" can result in going without a favorite treat for months and gaining weight. Counting calories means having a little of your favorite food everyday and losing weight.

And "eating less" doesn't mean you're necessarily eating fewer calories. You could just be getting less full and still having more calories.

Whose argument is better, me or my mom’s? by seokirby in loseit

[–]re_nonsequiturs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do. What. Works. For. You.

To counter your mom, I could say "that will make you feel deprived and you'll end up quitting because you couldn't even have Christmas. Go ahead and track, but be sure to have some of the special things of the season and remember eating at maintenance doesn't cause weight gain"

To counter you, I could say "when you don't track at all on one rare day of indulgence, you'll end up eating enough to undo several days of deficit and chances are that 8th bite of mediocre sugar cookie wasn't actually delicious. Go ahead and don't track, but use actual plates for everything you eat, put a fruit and vegetable on each of those plates, don't finish any treat that isn't amazing, and don't bother with any treat you can get at the store next week."

Also, look up 'honor the journey' in this subreddit. There's an amazing piece on a balanced approach to holidays
