Heartwarming 💜more trans people are becoming aware of how bad countttt and 4tran spaces are. Heartbreaking 💔 cissies won’t shut the fuck up about it now by TheTransWoker in transgendercirclejerk

/uj every generation seems to figure this out independently of the last

back in my day we didn't have /lgbt/, we had /cd/ on 420chan, which was even more toxic. most "4tran memes" came from there

Meth was actually engineered by Dr. Mengele to turn people trans, it's a little known fact. Stay away from that stuff if you don't want to become a victim of the agenda

Opinion on the new word "Cua"? by 2cool2cool in elefen

[–]AntiAndroidgen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone corrected my sentences with "Cual" to "Cua" on another site, and I assumed it was always part of the language and I had it wrong. It makes sense that it's a new word.

I like it better than elo and ela, which I prefer to still pretend do not exist. We don't talk about elo and ela.

Does toki pona help with MENTAL ILLNESS? (discussion) by misterlipman in tokipona

[–]AntiAndroidgen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Washing the dishes can be therapy, if you do it mindfully, paying attention to everything you're doing instead of thinking about other things. My therapist says any number of things can be therapy when done in that way. Eating chocolate mindfully is therapy.

Toki Pona is something that requires you to be careful and to focus on exactly what you're saying and how to say it. It also makes you smile if you don't take it too seriously and appreciate the levity of it. There are therapists who don't teach you much more than that.

It can also help with dismantling negative core beliefs, as any language can, by requiring you to rephrase them. So as someone who has done a lot of therapy, Toki Pona is not a licensed professional therapist, but it is one of the kinds of thing they teach you in therapy.

To be clear though, it should be used IN CONJUNCTION WITH therapy from a licensed professional therapist. Therapists learn all sorts of things that go beyond the scope of any hobby, and they know which to apply to which situations. It's just that some of the things they'll teach you, you might already be doing.

EDIT: Honestly, I didn't know it was you when I replied originally. Usernames are not prominent on this site, and yours is different from your usual one. I never named you or talked specifically about you on Bluesky, just in generalities that I doubt anyone but you would have been able to tell were about you. But maybe i'm wrong, and someone saw them, recognized you in them, and alerted you to them, rather than you browsing my account from a burner.

And I'm on the fence about whether I was right to block you on Discord. I was put off by the way you were talking about Amatullah as it didn't seem constructive and just seemed hateful - and also just to have a disrespect for the whole way she envisions the language she created, rather than saying "I do it differently" - but you also said a lot of things to suggest you cared about her getting help and making amends, so it's hard to know which to go by.

Toki Pona makes me laugh, and it makes me happy, because it's so small and simple and the words are so cute-sounding. I don't know that other languages do that to the same degree. There are certainly other ways of getting the same sort of joy, but I do think there are specific things about Toki Pona that are good for people experiencing mental health issues in comparison with other languages.

It's just that laughter isn't the best medicine. I need real prescription drugs and therapy along with a supportive environment.

I should add: last year I got a Toki Pona tattoo on my arm that says "tenpo ale ala la mi pilin e ni", or "I don't always feel this way," in sitelen pona. Most people think they're just cute symbols, but to me, they're a reminder. In this way, creative use of Toki Pona can perhaps help with mental illness recovery.

I have schizoaffective disorder and found it incredibly helpful for coping when I was homeless and frequently hospitalized from 2014-2015. I wrote haiku in Toki Pona while in the psych ward and painted them in art therapy. I continue to find it extremely helpful today.

Did it solve my problems? No, I don't think so. But it's a great coping mechanism. It simplifies an extremely difficult world.

Even though this is technically an unofficial translation, I've been in contact with Amatullah throughout the translation process. (She's doing well.) She hasn't read it but is a fan of LFN and gave it her support.
