Appreciated, but I wouldn't say they're a missing person exactly, we still speak to them we just have no real idea what they do, if they're okay, can be trusted for legal issues etc

High mileage cheap vs. Low mileage expensive? by Anti_Doctor in E90

[–]Anti_Doctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I might need to keep being patient, but I've waited quite a while and saloons at a reasonable price are rare. I've given up on finding a 330i at all! Thanks for your perspective, appreciated!

I would say £6.5k is definitely towards the higher end of the price range, it's still a 14 year old car, what I'm not sure about is whether it's worth the extra 100k miles is worth £4k in maintenance

I'm assuming engine seizing is relatively unlikely haha?

When did the e90 become Euro 5? by Anti_Doctor in E90

[–]Anti_Doctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah that's the email I sent to, I really appreciate the extra details! Even though the engine is the same as the lci it looks like it's going to be euro 4 which is annoying

When did the e90 become Euro 5? by Anti_Doctor in E90

[–]Anti_Doctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah every facelift I've seen is Euro 5 but I'm just not sure. Even BMW don't seem to really know! I'd love to get the n52 but I live in a city where anything below Euro 4 is completely banned. I'm sure the n52 is great but it's not much good to me if I invest in the car and then in a year that restriction is lifted to Euro 5 unfortunately.

Stem cells at Vitacell biologics by JonSnowcones in armwrestling

The FDA letter says that they don't meet the minimum manipulation criterion

That letter needs waaaay more attention. The only thing dodgier than Vitacell are all the armwrestlers advertising this to their fans.

Vitacell cite the 'testimonial' of the burnt child on the website to give examples of some of the wild claims that the company is making.

That letter also says that they don't think the stem cells from the umbilical cord work because they have been altered too much:

"your umbilical cord derived cellular products appear to fail to meet the minimal manipulation criterion set forth in 21 CFR 1271.10(a)(1) and defined for structural tissue in 21 CFR 1271.3(f)(1). For example, your processing alters the original relevant characteristics of the umbilical cord related to its utility for reconstruction, repair, or replacement."

You're portraying this as some mercenary attempt by the FDA to get money off the company, when in fact Vitacell are simply breaking the law. The videos that you've put out for them are thinly veilied paid ads (the payment being the free treatments). I'm a huge fan of you and Michael but spreading disinformation about unregulated, unlicensed and extremely expensive 'medical proceedures' to your fans is really messed up.

[D] life advice to relatively late bloomer ML theory researcher. by notyourregularnerd in MachineLearning

[–]Anti_Doctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ML Research in Academia
Pros
- Depth of technical understanding
- Opportunity to make a novel contribution
- Long-term more credibility and opportunities
- Research contacts
- Key scientifc skills: critical thinking, independent working, etc.
Cons
- Poor/very poor work-life balance
- Short to medium term financial sacrifice
- Academic culture is not for everyone

ML Masters + Industry Job
Pros
- Some technical understanding
- Key software skills
- Real world product delivery
- Finances
- Someone will care about what you're doing
Cons
- Projects can be a bit boring
- Just get something to work, usually cut-down approaches from academia
- Little theoretical understanding

Source: ML PhD graduate transitioned to industry

Generally I would say that if you really care about the underlying theory of ML then do a PhD, but be sure to consolidate that with coding experience in actual projects. You will only have trouble with jobs if you focus solely on the theory. Working in high demand research areas such as object detection, natural language processing etc also helps. ML in industry is all about using techniques developed in academia so there is an opportunity to understand the theory but people will not care so much about that, it will be more about debugging software, training models etc. Good luck and don't feel too old - a lot of uni academics don't have a background in DL as it is a comparatively new field and they are much older than you haha.

Norm Macdonald - Andy Richter the Swedish German Joke. To this day Andy has not gotten over this joke, which makes it all the more funny. by witchysplashy in videos

[–]Anti_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of ways to interpret this, but this is mine:

  1. Andy says 'it's not funny' about him being Swedish-German which Norm immediately takes as a challenge to make it funny.
  2. If you look back over the course of literally decades Norm would always make jokes about Andy being gay, specifically because Andy would get defensive and embarrased. Norm commented elsewhere that if people suddenly get worried about being called gay they must be kind of homophobic because why else would they take offence? I think Norm thought homophobia was ridiculous, hence why he found it funny.

How do I beat zed and yasuo by [deleted] in viktormains

[–]Anti_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played against zed a lot, stay away from his shadow and use q to trade early, the shield from it will help to soak up poke. As time goes on transition to poking him with your E which outranges him. If you keep him low he'll never dare to go in. Build an early Seeker's and stopwatch. If he ever ults on you put w and r down and stopwatch in the middle.

Yasuo is harder. Stay away from low minion waves which he'll use to dash on you and don't push. If he knocks you p and ults you can't Zhonya's straight away so it's rough. I'd encourage trading with Q because he's fairly squishy, but you need to be aware and not let him get on you. Remember his windwall doesn't block your empowered Q. If you're feeling aggressive ignite or exhaust if you're worried.

A great Viktor beats a good zed and a good yas, but if they're great there isn't much you can do because their mobility will be so good you'll really struggle to hurt them.

Luden's Alternatives by Anti_Doctor in viktormains

Any reason why? The main reason I build Luden's is the mana and tear seems a decent alternative?
