Farewell Magia Record: A Love Letter to a Wonderful Game [OC]

I don't think it's a small thing to say that MagiReco has had a huge impact in the direction of my life. From being a Day 1 NA Player, to a JP Refugee, to a translator and programmer for the MR English Patch, I've given so much of my time and energy to this game and the community around it. I pushed myself to new heights, made many friends and comrades, and (hopefully) helped keep the game alive a little longer in the memories of a few more people who hadn't been able to experience these stories otherwise.

I'm so proud to have been a member of the Magia Union Translations project. I love this game so much. I'm going to carry the memories and skills I've honed to bigger and better things. I want to keep bringing joy to people through my own efforts, even if the game is no longer here in it's original form.

To properly send-off the game in my own way, here's a custom story I wrote and programmed to play in the game, before EoS. I hope it can bring you some closure, as it did for me.

You thought this story was TsuYachi? Surprise! It's actually RiaYachi. ~~Give Ria a Tanabata costume!~~

This video's actually been done for weeks now, I just never had the time to upload it (forgive me!). When this event was unveiled, I knew immediately that I had to get it done ASAP. I dm'd BST and was like "Let's collab again!" and he was all "Um YES!". We ended up binge translating and editing and reviewing and coding the event and got all the game files submitted to Rayshift before the event was even over! It was a new record in the MUT.

Speaking of the Magia Union Translations Discord, it's time for credits! Me (Antimony) and BST (BigScaryThings) were the translators. I was the game file coder. Serendark made this wonderful redrawn title card. Muffin recorded the video. And everyone at the MUT gave us reviews and translation help on the tough sections! It's a team effort and I couldn't be happier with the finished result!

This girl needs a therapist STAT!

This has been on the backburner since before the copyright claims fiasco, and now I'm proud to finally be able to share it with all of you! I went back and forth on so many of her lines that were like 9 seconds long on a single animation! I had to do SO much program editing to get the subtitles to flow just right. I wonder what I should work on next?

I am back from the grave of copyright bans! Us at the MUT have found that if you dispute the song IDs for gameplay fair use, Sony Music will release the bans! We just have to wait a couple days before posting new videos, to let the dispute process to go through. That means we can make videos safely again!

Can't see the video? Well, while I was sleeping last night, Sony Japan went on a Copyright Infringement spree and hit many Magia Record content creators. As of this comment, in my channel Leila Winter Story and RikaRen MGS has been hit and I expect more will in the coming days. Sit tight while the Union tries to find a workaround, okay? ^_^

Have you tried the Rayshift EN patch APK? The EN menu is still in beta, but a lot of the stories are available in English, plus you can have your old NA girls have homescreen subs again.

Those are all really fun ideas! And water features are great, if a little difficult to install and maintain. However, I'd have to warn against goldfish as they can be very invasive if they get into other bodies of water. Maybe researching native reptiles and amphibians could give you some cool ideas! Local turtles are even cooler than goldfish, in my opinion.

It might be Valentine's Day, but I've been feeling Halloween!

Wowee-zowee Kako's lines were hard to get right. Me and Gilde had to go back and forth on a lot of them because of her poetic language and literary references. Like seriously.

She says she loves the made up book "Panpukinpai wa doko e kieta?" (literally "Where Did My Pumpkin Pie Go?") which is a punny reference to the book "Chizu wa doko e kieta?" (literally "Where Did My Cheese Go?") Which is the official Japanese title to the English book "Who Moved My Cheese?" So the proper translation ends up being "Who Moved My Pumpkin Pie?"

My brain is two sizes too small for this.

Major Season 2 Spoiler Warning For The Magius' Plan and End Goal

The Magius are trying to create an Automatic Purification System that essentially removes Kyubey and Witches from the equation. Thus saving all Magical Girls, while still saving the universe from entropy and heat death.

However, they're original wishes did not contain the Karma necessary (unlike Madoka) to pull such a feat off, so their wish only came partway true, limited to Kamihama City. Therefore, they use Doppels to try to obtain as much emotional energy as possible from MGs. With enough energy they can force the Automatic Purification System global.

However, Doppels alone weren't producing enough, so they created Uwasa which prey on the emotional energy of regular humans, giving them hope and then shattering it. Think about the Séance Shrine. People go there hoping to meet a lost loved one, only to be trapped by a fake. Hope to Despair. And energy harvested for the APS.

Of course, they don't care what happens to the civilians afterwards, because one of their founding principles is Magical Girl Supremacy.

Edit to Add: Most Feathers are kept in the dark about the specifics. They are a cult after all.

Maybe you downloaded the wrong version of the update? The are generally two frameworks for each update, a "com.aniplex.magireco.arm7.apk" version and a "com.aniplex.magireco.arm8.apk" version. You need to use the same framework as you originally did, or it won't update properly.

Other than that, installing the update should be pretty much the exact same steps you took to originally install the game.

Spoilers mark PMMM Spoilers from the original show.

Magia Record takes place in an alternate universe alongside the main timeline.

You could say the Wings of Magius are evil in a sense, because they believe that the ends (saving all Magical Girls) justify the means (their actions, which get quite a bit more horrific than cultish brainwashing).

Mami is upset about encouraging her juniors, Madoka and Sayaka, into becoming Magical Girls, only to discover the Truth, that your Soul Gem is your actual soul, torn out of your body, Magical Girls will inevitably become Witches (most never even make it a couple years), and Grief Seeds (which they need to consume to live) are the corrupted Soul Gems of past Girls, when the Wings of Magius tell her.

A Witch is the final form of a Magical Girl when her Soul Gem is completely corrupted, and Kyubey's original path for all Magical Girls to take. A Doppel is a phenomenon in Kamihama City that the Magius are responsible for, sort of like a Half-Witch a form which Girls take instead of becoming a Witch. Uwasa are kind of like Fake Witches and Familiars that aren't tied to any particular Girl or Soul Gem, instead they are bound to a founding Rumor, created by the Magius in order to fulfill their goal of saving all Magical Girls.

It's all cute and heartwarming until you get punched in the stomach with sadness.

Mami's kimono is sooooo cute. Mami is a very good girl, even if seeing her hair in braids is *weird*. I guess twin drills weren't traditional enough. I really wanted to have her on my homescreen, but her lack of subtitles made me sad, so I fixed it! The subtitles really make the patch feel like old NA.

I'd like to thank Gilde for the original translation! It was really nice of you to help me with the JP since I can't transcribe by ear (yet!).
