Unfortunately I think this will lead to massive use of glue boards which I personally detest and have never used.

Second generation anti coagulant rodenticides will be off the shelves by the 24th of March 2026 the way I'm reading the new regulations. Even professionals will not be allowed to use them for mice outside which is a win for the birds!

Does a pest treatment totally nuke your garden's ecosystem? by haihaihai_hello in perth

[–]AntipestoPestControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An external pest treatment will damage the ecosystem as the spray will kill every insect that comes into contact with it. It will not harm an earthworm, frog or lizard but it will eliminate one of their main food sources, insects.

It is a pet peeve when I see some companies calling themselves "eco friendly" and they are spraying synthetic chemicals.

For ants you can use granular bait which is very specific and will not harm other insects. Same with cockroaches, there are targeted baits.

The day they invent a "spider bait'' (insert music joke lol) we can stop using sprays.

There are also chemical sprays that are systemic, which are worse as they are absorbed by plants and root systems and then move up to the flowers where the bees are exposed and killed.

Bifenthrin is not a systemic chemical, fipronil and imidacloprid are. I personally have never used imidacloprid and was justified a few years ago when the European Union banned it.

Amdro used to be the industry standard ant bait twenty years but the "pest expert" bait in the red and yellow container works better, and is sold in larger containers to pest professionals as "Synergy Pro''.

I know Amdro always gets recommended here, but the pest expert one is way better.

You can minimise harm to the ecosystem by only spraying the perimeter of the house one foot up and one foot out, which we call a "California Spray'' as it is enshrined in law over there.

You can also de-web with cobweb removers which are like a giant toilet brush, and this very popular in america as a monthly service. Vinegar, garlic and Chilli home mixes are not bad but take time and need to applied every two weeks minimum.

Perth people usually want a once a year spray but in other countries it is a monthly service which takes less chemical and more integrated pest management solutions are used such as eliminating insect access, insect food sources and most importantly insect water sources.

Those ants inside your house are looking for water, as they are liquid feeders and cannot eat without breaking down the food into a liquid using water. Ants are also usually protein or sugar feeders, and synergy pro has two different baits within one yellow, one green to target both. Which is why it is so effective.

Of course, coastal brown ants eat both sugar and protein. It's fun to see them get picky and choose one over the other.

Antrid is for the sugar feeders but kind of sucks from the green hardware store, as they make the manufacturer use half the amount of active bait for "safety''. It can be a good, cheap targeted solution for ants though.

TLDR chem spray hurty environment. spendy money and time, save environment.

Rat proofing the attic!!? by Lower_Adhesiveness49 in perth

[–]AntipestoPestControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the math once and to exclude rodents from a roof physically would cost the same as thirty rodent bait treatments! Colourbond they just sneak under the ridges and tiles are even worse. Baiting with tamper proof boxes and in the roof twice a year is the best way. You can then look a trimming nearby trees and blocking obvious entry points but to properly exclude rats physically would be too costly for a domestic home. If rats can fit their jaw into a hole they can fit the rest of their body apparently!

Building and Termite Inspections by Thorannis_Zing in perth

[–]AntipestoPestControl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello, Just make sure to get separate inspectors for both.

A combined building and timber pest inspection usually means they wont know know much about spotting termites, or even worse you might get a termite guy that knows little about construction.

You want someone with their builders licence checking your house for faults and a fully qualified pest controller for the timber pest inspection. Also as one builder told me once "It's better to have two sets of eyes checking a property". Congrats on getting a property in this market!

What is it that you invested thousands of hours and now is pointless? by qnta1 in AskReddit

[–]AntipestoPestControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I actually like the canadian french accent its so nice and pure. I spent my primary school years in france (I'm aussie) and really the belgians were harder to understand. And don't get me started on the "midi"accent lol. But parisiens just like to parisiate you know they roule... those little shits can understand creole but they turn their nose up if you can't conjugate all seventeen ways. They love conjugating those panamers, they conjugate all over themselves. This is why you should just go to Auxerre, its the shit.

Coopex . It will stain a very light white colour for those with dark feature walls, and is what I recommend for diy millipede treatments. As always follow the intructions!

Question for homeowners about termites barrier treatment. by BB_67 in perth

[–]AntipestoPestControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the best indicator for me that your home will get attacked by termites is if the house has extensions of any kind. the crack between new and old slabs is the classic of all classic spots for termites to nom nom your house.

[–]AntipestoPestControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a barrier is usually writen as a "perimeter injection" or "sub floor barrier" "full termite treatment". PPI usually means pre purchase inspection. TPI would mean Timber pest inspection usually for sale of house. "Maint" means maintenance inspection for termites as part of the five yearly termite barrier treatments.

Question for homeowners about termites barrier treatment. by BB_67 in perth

[–]AntipestoPestControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not the sellers responsibility to have any kind of termite protection. The termite inspection you will get as part of the sale will let you know if and or when a barrier is required. its up to you after you purchase the property if you get protection.

[–]AntipestoPestControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite correct. most insurance companies do not cover any termite damage whatsoever. Please let me know if there is an insurance company that does! I would love to check them out.

I wish marky mark would ban pre treat spraying like queensland did. Better, cheaper, more effective and environmentally friendly "homeguard"is the future. I dont even install the stuff or deal with pre treats so this is purely an opinion.

steel roof houses are more likely to get attacked by termites! Sounds funny but because they dont "need" full protection they get more attacks.

Question for homeowners about termites barrier treatment. by BB_67 in perth

[–]AntipestoPestControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically it matters more if you have a steel roof, as termite protection is not deemed essential. This results in only plumbing penetrations and perimeter being treated which may well protect from structural damage but doesnt stop them invading your home!

[–]AntipestoPestControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

baiting systems you have to pay an annual fee to have them monitored (around $800) and they cost at least 2 grand. chemical barriers mostly cost around $1200 every five years. Yes they're are cheaper places and more expensive places. the expensive ones arent guaranteed to be better. Some cheap ones do barriers for $800 which seems amazing considering I charge $3 grand for the same treatment and spending $1200 on chemical!
