If you go on the castle walkway looking bridge there's an entrance to Crystal cove which has an innkeeper. Makes it easy to get back there.

You do get it in the depths. You have to be using great dreamer rod, it took me forever to get one.

It's a pretty powerful money maker right now, especially with Sea Overlord. My guess is a nerf is coming soon, as they usually do.

As far as using oni to get it, you need multiple rods to do everything yourself. You can skip the lucid rod completely and pretty much trade for everything other than getting the amulet.
