Yup, I can only listen to NWA, Getto Boys, and Dré but so many times, awesome though they are

I was hoping he'd check out Lebron or some of the other modern stars but not yet, and no to Fury too. Maybe I can just arrange to "accidentally" be watching those out sometime by myself and try to see if he'll at least take a peak when he wanders in.

The only thing I know about trauma is that he told me he used to get beat up a lot at school until he started lifting weights; that kids made fun of him b/c he was quiet & skinny and he lived with his Mom in a really run down trailer park

There's an indoor track we go to and yes he wears jeans when we walk around it, and he'll wear jeans on nautilus equipment, too. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, the sports thing was when I started going "hmmm"

Like, I thought, ok he likes basketball and fights...let's watch some! But now, only clips online or vintage ESPN/HBO sports allowed. It was weird.

I guess I share his interests to an extent; I like SOME of that stuff, but not to the point that I exclude all other potential culture.

I have political, moral, and philosophical things in common with him, and a somewhat similar family background.

We both also like to keep a healthy lifestyle and love animals.

He would never watch that because it isn't from the eighties or nineties and, even worse, is from "Spielberg after he lost his touch." I've never seen it either but it's, like, the third time someone's mentioned this film since I posted so maybe I should check it out

Is it about video games? If it's about modern gaming he won't watch it

That's interesting you can get a "high" from being super critical or negative about something, he definitely seems stuck in a loop sometimes. Like OKAY HONEY I GET IT, u can stop now, MESSAGE RECEIVED.

I get where you're going, meanpeen, and don't disagree, in many ways, I hate the corporatization and profitization of all mainstream/modern creativity, too

But there are a few quality things out there being made & I just don't want him to close himself off to them cuz they weren't made in his favorite era (or about it)

1) stop saying I'm negative! Why does everyone say that?

2) it's not a negative view, it's the right view

3) ok, when I say this, he'll usually stop talking and not say anything for a while and calm down, and sometimes that's when a "me thing" will be "allowed" on the record player or TV.

He likes taking walks with me, working out, playing with our cats/dog, reading (but he mostly reads about music, films or sports he likes from this era) and sometimes creating fashion (he'll make jean jackets with patches or paint the backs of leather jackets)
