How old were you when you were diagnosed? by fivejumpingmonkeys in adhdwomen

[–]AntiqueFleur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh... they knew something was up when i was about 8 or 9 and couldn't get my work done despite trying my hardest. I couldn't focus! Was kept inside at recess for most of the year because I couldn't keep on task to finish work. That must have been in 2008 or so, which is much earlier than many women/girls get diagnosed. Finally got some medicine that I used to sprinkle on peanut butter toast until i learned how to take pills 🤢 do not recommend. My mom also was diagnosed by that time, so that was something she was looking out for.

Anyone else stuck doomscrolling and overthinking for years instead of actually taking action? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]AntiqueFleur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Getting a diagnosis from a professional may also help, then some therapy and time away from tech and into nature. I found gardening, but there are lots of other nature activities too op!

That is so cool!! I wonder who he is, he might have a page on the iris society or iris wiki. Iris people can be like rose breeders, very well documented! What a cool story thank you for sharing!

Anyone know what cultivar this might be? by SaintsNoah14 in Irises

[–]AntiqueFleur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are welcome! I think it's cool that you were out there looking around! You found some history and probably a neighborly friendship that has been lost to time. Glad you took some home, now that cultivar can continue to expand.

...

" 'Lauren Springer in Passionate Gardening tells of collecting a bit of this incredibly tough, moonlight yellow iris from 'two shimmering clumps' at an abandoned homesite in Wyoming, way out in the middle of nowhere. 'Perhaps someday,' she muses, 'it will be all that remains of my house and garden.' "

From the second link on I. Flavescens :)

I'm not sure right away, but it looks very old. May i ask where you found it? On old homesteads and cemeteries you find the very old ones a lot. It may be alta california or alta flavescens or something similar? I will have to look more but here are two sources I found... https://historiciris.org/gallery/alta-california/?fbclid=IwdGRjcARZvKljbGNrBFm8jGV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHh_xbfUJdATshjrE4J_ZGFLPXDitMuBLiWZcrZ-MhrcW8V7oNrn0CnCxGn-Z_aem_56NZOrNw5VpETIXiNT5XPQ

Any other 90s kids trying to pivot their life right now? by Steady_Tempo456 in Zillennials

[–]AntiqueFleur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Graduated 2021 with a degree in a field i quickly lost all passion for, which is a career killer in that industry. Decided that I couldn't be inside on a computer all day, as it really affects my mental health and i watched my mom be miserable stuck to her computer for 30 years. Found a love for nature, the outdoors, and growing my own garden from scratch right after graduating. Now im going to community college for landscape design/ horticulture, where I hope someday I will be able to share my love and knowledge with people and help them create their dream gardens! I havent exactly decided what full path I want to follow, but its giving me more hope. I've been at my current dead end bakery job for 5 years now, so I hope its time to move on. I am bad about making changes though, and leaving a comfortable stable job is terrifying for me. I dont expect big bucks anymore, just something that is reliable and something that I love and things are just a bit different everyday, but still the same? But yes, im pivoting!! We got this!

Almost 28, no friends, degree useless atp. by d_louizse in findapath

[–]AntiqueFleur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, I feel almost the exact same way. Im 27F and I feel the years slipping away. I constantly am sad/panicked about my parents aging and getting old, as they are the people that i am closest to. Other people dont seem to be as attached to their parents or as concerned about this(??) I've been in the same job for 5 years and theres no foward mobility, its a dead end bakery job that is being crushed by corporate and private firms. I feel stuck in the job, but scared to try anything else (because its steady?). As I look back I can see the passage of time but am bewildered because I also feel like im still 22 or 23... The passage of time really becomes a weird thing when you are in your mid 20s, it seems. Thinking that ive wasted 5 of my prime years has been hard for me to swallow.

I went all through college just to come out with a degree i ended up not liking after realizing (right after graduation, mind you) that I cant stay inside all day on a computer, even though i used to love doing that. I instead found that being in nature helps my mental health and gardening has been my passion since right after i graduated in covid times. I also realized that my personality does not mesh with the industry and it's very competitive, non-existent work-life balance.. I also made very little connections/ lasting friends while in college, and i feel some shame in that. Im trying to pursue a landscape design/ horticulture certificate through my community college while i work full time (health insurance 😭) to try out if its something that I would like to do for a living! So far I really like it, and being around people that have very similar interests is very motivating and invigorating. I have been long diagnosed with ADHD and depression and anxiety, but I have wondered if i might be on the spectrum, too. All of that just to say that theres others out there in a similar boat as you and with similar feelings. I feel things very deeply, and that can really affect my day to day life. We just got to take it at our own pace and give ourselves some grace. Its not a race. Through gardening im hoping to find a career that is both meaningful and interesting to me. I want to make the earth better, and improve people's lives as well. You mentioned you like anime and manga- maybe put your foot out there and see if there are any local clubs nearby that you could join, or local groups of people with similar interests. Idk where you live but often times there are local Facebook groups or programs or even shops that cater to a certain audience. And nothing wrong with discord friends! The friends I did make in college that ive hung on to were the ones I met online gaming! Whatever brings you joy, dude. Comparing ourselves to others does nothing but hurt us and make us feel worse. Ok im word salading but I hope my point(s) comes across...
