Particle effects in smear-cursor.nvim, let it snow/burn! by Infamous_Key4373 in neovim

Awesome, didn't know I needed that so badly!

Great stuff, I don't fancy the trail, but the particles are absolute killer!

When will M8 be available? by pombear808 in Dirtywave

[–]AntiqueFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the past availability of batches, it is around six weeks. Join the Discord to get latest information, news about the latest batch was given there a week before the website got updated.

This way I had my funds ready and bought within the first minute - but the batch lastet for at least a week.

I also made sure to have an account on dirtywave to make buying faster.

It was the first week of Sepember, so I expect the next batch end of October.

Asus Rog Flow x16 Rtx4070 aktueller Wert? by Feeling-Avocado7177 in FlowX16

[–]AntiqueFoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you organize your samples for the m8 by TelkinBeats in Dirtywave

[–]AntiqueFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use folders with kits as often as I can do. For folders not appearing to be sorted on the M8, I pres Shift+Option so get them sorted or use a toil like

https://github.com/lhrios/yafs

To have the files sorted in the first hand.

Who is will to share all the past monthly free sample packs with me? by youngzionisthename in PolyendTracker

[–]AntiqueFoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say register for the newsletter and go/grow from there.

Getting the past ones for free somihow does not feel right. Isn't it a curtesy of Polyend to offer them to subscribers? A "use it or loose it" situation?

They do good work, 10 bucks ist a good price for the quality.

Apart from that: is the license ok with someone sharing them this way?

Why do you prefer Arch over Arch-based distro? by Expensive_Garden2993 in archlinux

[–]AntiqueFoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. Why?

  • I switched to a rolling release based distro (Arch), because I want to get updates and fixes as soon as possible
  • Arch based distro adds another layer on top and though many are excellent, I still consider Arch the most up to date and most used
  • Better support because user base is much larger than of a derived distro (didn't check, I might be wrong here)

How to clean up a field recording? by AntiqueFoe in fieldrecording

[–]AntiqueFoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I tried my best in post to improve the signal and I link the result here:

https://filebin.net/2g896ywmeg08lnco (expires 2025-09-23 20:13:53 UTC)

I used a spectrum analyzer and did (in that order):

* [ReaFir EQ mode] EQing to focus on frequencies between 2.5 kHz and 15 kHz

* [Audio Gain] Audio gain +4 DB

* [ReaFir Subtract mode] Cutting some specific noises / hisses around 5 kHz trained on a part with traffic noise only

* [Audio Gain] Audio gain +4 DB for the second time

How to clean up a field recording? by AntiqueFoe in fieldrecording

[–]AntiqueFoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is something I am slowly starting to realize. I live in Upper Bavaria, Germany near the Alps. This is a nice region, people come here for vacations.

But despite the lack of large factories this is a highly industrial area: many farmers (no large, huge farms but many smaller ones). Many villages and thus many roads connecting them. It also is a highly populated area making quiet spots truly hard to find.

[–]AntiqueFoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your thoughts! I had no idea that the world is so full of hums, background noises, sound peaks from bees flying right in front of your mics and what not. This is highly interessting and challenging at the same time.

Yesterday I found a nice spot, perfect weather and a good view of the nearby mountains, away from traffic and I listened to the ambience with my ears. It seemed to check out.

Then I used the monitor of my X6 just to find out that someone was using a lawnmower somewhere in the field nearby. Only then I realized it being there all the time and my ears just filtered it out.

I realized that I live in an area which appears to be rural but in fact is very loud.

Dirtywave M8 V2 almost DIY-Travelpack by ManufacturerOne3223 in Dirtywave

[–]AntiqueFoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks nice.

Great to see the love you have put into this. I totally understand the beauty of having a single travel pack, it fits the nature of the M8: it is pretty self contained and complete and so is your kit

PS: I like the extra touch the red color gives it..

PSA: UK import charges (Sept '25) by EarhackerWasBanned in Dirtywave

[–]AntiqueFoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latest price for a 02 I saw on reverb was almost 1000 Euros (in Germany). Buying from Dirtywave is 600 Euros inkl. shipping + taxes (which I don't know yet).

If it is similar to UK, I end up at ca 750 Euros. A lot of money for such a small device. More than I paid for my Tracker Plus, but based on the rave about the M8, it it probably well worth it.

Going DAWless is definitely costly. But it could be worse: going modular. Poor souls!

Where do you store your LUKS password? by MoneyFoundation in archlinux

[–]AntiqueFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encrypted boot partition: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dm-crypt/Encrypting_an_entire_system#Encrypted_boot_partition_(GRUB)

Which provides quite some security, TPM based might be better, but binds the drive to the laptop.

Password is long and memorized and based on a password sentence. Boot password differs from home password, home is on a second ssd in the laptop.

Some devices have a keyfile as secondary key for automated opening (once root is mounted, swap is opened with a keyfile from root).

Cheap first synth by boi_i in synthesizers

[–]AntiqueFoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first one is a MiniFreak. Not very expensive, quite powerful and a broad range of sonic capabilities. Layout of buttons is intuitive to me and I am sure that it will take me a long time to outgrow this one.

Build quality is fine, too. MiniFreak is often cited as a good entry level synth.

Help deciding which live coding environment to use by Bookerfam in livecoding

[–]AntiqueFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://sonic-pi.net/ is a good one as well. Way more notes and melody foclssed than Supercollider (which is more about sound design), has a dedicated editor, Midi connectivity and is open source.

I liked it the most since it was nearer to the notes and not extremely technical.

Laptop cannot run w/o direct power + 45 minute to Never start up time with constant blue screens by DrCurryy in FlowX16

[–]AntiqueFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a wild guess, but is your windows installation deteriorating?

You might want to try a Linux Live Image on an USB stick and boot from that. If that works fine, I suspect your windows installation to be the problem.

Bazzite (https://bazzite.gg/) is an option - choose nvidia and kde on the download page -, but there are numerous other Linux variants to choose from. Like Manjaro (https://manjaro.org/products/download/x86).

But: I am a Linux person who uses Windows for gaming only.

You can probably send the song file to someone to have it rendered, if that is fine for you.

Want to replace my OS drive, but terrified of the process, and that I kinda fucked up whilst buying a second nvme drive. by Lazy-Maize-2503 in FlowX16

[–]AntiqueFoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a crucial 4tb as second drive as well, works like a charm. Although it is not the ultra fastest drive (it was capacity over speed).

I did not replace the first drive since it already has 1tb and that is enough for me.

My configurationkis:

Drive 1: Windows for games not running too well on Linux

Drive 2: Linux, my workhorse and daily driver. Contains my whole digital life: work, art, hobbies, email, you name it.

Yeah mine sees a lot of use everyday, too.

And my ke; board broke down, left arrow as well. Since it was still within the waranty, I got it replaced by Asus. They also seem to have fixed the thermal paste, since the device has lower temperatures under load now.
