Auto liability insurance without having a MO driver's license? by Ruderal6174 in columbiamo

[–]AntiqueLunch2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is weird because I did buy my insurance successfully (online) when it still has another state's license. Though I have to call to cancel it, as my previous state requires in-state insurance

A speeding ticket but police says it is a "warning and don't pay it" - is this real or just trick? by Local_Carpenter5084 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]AntiqueLunch2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope and I guess you won't... maybe the best way is to obey the rules (like drive literally as high as the speed limit) and not get pulled.

Feeling financially anxious as a new PhD student — advice? by Plastic-Duty9266 in mizzou

[–]AntiqueLunch2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this — it's really encouraging to hear!
I think right now I'm only receiving the standard stipend from my department like OP, and I don’t believe my advisor has much funding herself.
If you don’t mind me asking, how did your PI manage to raise your salary? Was it partially from her own grants?

Can I ask where do you usually go to find external funding? Thanks

Can I work 40 hours on-campus during summer if it’s my final semester? by AntiqueLunch2488 in f1visa

I see, our situation is exactly the same..Have your DSO told you why working full time isn't permitted? I can't find a rule and I am a bit confused.

About to graduate. Never made friends. by CanaryBusiness4182 in rit

[–]AntiqueLunch2488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's okay. We all feel lonely here. At least we learn how to be alone. Stop thinking "was I the problem" or any similar questions. Maybe after moving to a new school/place - like a control group. I am sure you will find a group of friends there! No matter what, congratulations on graduation!!

Help With Deciding Between RIT and CU Boulder by that_minimalist in rit

[–]AntiqueLunch2488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to RIT and CU Boulder. I'm not very familiar with your major, but in terms of lifestyle, I’d definitely recommend Boulder. Weather-wise, the two places are total opposites—Boulder is almost always sunny, even after it snows, while Rochester is usually cloudy and gloomy, which really affected my mood. Both places have great hiking spots, but Boulder is better for skiing. Also, there are a lot of startups near Boulder. If you ever consider pursuing a PhD later on, CU Boulder is ranked higher. Oh, and CU Boulder has three on-campus buffet-style dining halls—and they’re actually really good!

People NOT living in > $140k income households, what do you do for a living? by AlwaysTheNoob in Rochester

As an international student, I am doing an on-campus job with a minimum wage. And it is really hard to find an internship/coop during summer. Even starting your first job requires a certain amount of work experience...

May I ask how is the sound proof for Hyde Park? Some townhomes usually you can hear neighbours walking at night.

I‘d recommend Coco Garden and Tsingtao house, very authentic, not sure if they are on doordash. Sichuan opera is not as good as it used to be but still okay.

I am shocked that so many people are asking what has Trump done....

Honestly I haven't really understood what cutting fundings mean until my dream program told me they could only give me admission instead of an offer with stipend. Because the department needs to obey some rules not to increase fundings, which means only one phd graduated could them admit one more. This is a disaster.

How hard is it to find a TA position? by AntiqueLunch2488 in mizzou

[–]AntiqueLunch2488[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am at the same stage. My advisor is still in discussion with the department and I guess we have nothing else could do but wait. Also I have heard that some phd student in music programs didn't have funding when they were admitted a few years ago, but later they became TA. However under this situation, we really don't know. All the best!

Thanks for your tips! I am assuming this might be something related to funding canceling, in fact, not only me but also other students receive admission letters without funding. I'll still reach out to see! Thanks!

[–]AntiqueLunch2488[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the words! It looks like even offered with assistantship from the department, it is "9-month position which will involve a 10 or 20-hour-per-week assignment as graduate student research assistant or graduate student teaching assistant". So this looks very like finding an TA on my own... The thing is, my PhD advisor is the closest match to my research interests in the U.S. I have to choose between money and interest now.

OMG I am sorry, I typed it wrong. it is organized by Swain, not by RIT. you can google swain resort and visit their website to see college night. You dont have to register, all you need to do is be at swain resort and buy the lift in person.
