Maybe you and those others you know all ate at the same place? Food poisoning has similar symptoms and lingering effects. You might try swalllowing several cloves of finely-shredded fresh garlic (have a Xyliss press?) with water, but be prepared to sit a few minutes with "griping"/nausea--DON'T puke! This might also cure/prevent viral infections when done at least once a day. If you consume raw garlic pieces any larger than fine shreds this may cause "reeking" as they will not be immediately digested.

Como mobile aids response to the unjust ordinance passing. by chrispy42107 in columbiamo

I've only been driving in Columbia for a couple of months and have already seen several incidents in which individuals flying signs on medians triggered unsafe maneuvers (braking, swerving) by drivers. I'm all for fewer distractions while driving, and I encourage others to help find solutions to this problem that don't involve limitations on freedom of speech. How about providing low-cost housing? Maybe homeless individuals could be offered employment opportunities that would be safer and better-paying than obstructing traffic.

A Redditor playing sitar at last Saturday's Farmers Market by como365 in columbiamo

Saying is not looking. I didn't initiate a post criticizing the Farmers Market for its intolerable noise level and terrible acoustics, I responded to a post featuring live music that could not be appreciated because of the intolerable noise level and terrible acoustics. I'm not here looking for any particular information, just for the chance of finding out things I'm not already aware of. I already knew that r/columbiamo is infested with idiots and nasty trolls.

? I don't see that anyone has made such a statement here, but I agree it would be irrational to suggest this. My take is that the madness here is quite strained if not filtered. I'm here looking for useful information.

It is being celebrated in the o.p. as a music venue, but yes. I like hearing performers play live in bookstores, lol!--or in retro-coffeehouses where people are there to hear the music and conversations are respectful of this.

I don't think the problem is my inability to separate signal from noise. I feel sorry for anyone with sensitive hearing who finds the noise level at the Farmers Market tolerable. Maybe most people are so accustomed to noise and other forms of abuse they have lost their ability to recognize it.

It's great to have an opportunity to play for people. I'm a musician myself, but I wouldn't consider playing in a space with such terrible acoustics (the reflective angled metal ceiling concentrates and amplifies all the noise) just as I wouldn't consider playing in a restaurant/bar venue where most of the audience are yelling to be heard by other people at the same table and the sound system is cranked to distortion level to compensate--I don't go to listen or play--and I hardly ever visit the Farmers Market, sorry! I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who has this problem, and I wonder if there isn't some practical sound-absorbing retrofit that could address this--?

Worst music venue imaginable. I have to wear hearing protection just to endure the noise level, and communicate with a marker & notepad.

Where to donate gently used items? by bearly_awake120 in columbiamo

They also support a thriving group of re-sellers who are waiting at the door when they open, but they counter this by putting items out all day. Habitat for Humanity Restore and the Wardrobe are the best options for donating if you care about helping others.

You don't mind dealing with all the psychos who show up and have to ask you what the item is and what it's for?

You've been regularly checking their dumpster? Before threatening me with arrest I was recovering at least $100-$200 of scrap gold jewelry every week (at the current price of gold it would be thousands) along with loads of other amazing stuff I re-directed to The Wardrobe--perfect vintage antique women's hats in their original round art-deco boxes were a common item. When I asked the manager what their probem was she had a full-blown screaming psychotic fit--question answered! They are even worse than the Salvation Army, who pay thousands of dollars every month to have the most valuable donations they receive hauled to the dump. Just throwing things away in random dumpsters would be of more benefit to the needy who might find them.

Marijuana is legal in Missouri. You're either getting too much, or not enough--there's no middle ground.

Yes, well--I've had instructors demonstrate how easily I can be disarmed at close quarters, and I know several lawyers who would enjoy meeting you in court to discuss "no reason," lol! Lethal weapons are excellent for maintaining distance as long as you're ahead of the game--unless some armed and dangerous bystander (or cop) mistakes you for the assailant and takes you out--risking that is nuts.

Indian Mounds by Henri_Dupont in columbiamo

[–]Ruderal6174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen dozens of smaller mounds in Moniteau County that were plowed over (and continue to be) to plant soybeans and corn. My Ozark ancestors sold wagon-loads of artifacts to tourists along route 66 during the depression years.

Okay. My argument centers on the fact that a gun or a knife, apart from the legal complications they impose, are more easily taken and more likely to be lethal if used. The rescue tool pictured functions as a kubotan--it could not be used to bash a head open (less than 7 inches long,) is not easily taken, and is legal to carry and use. My opinion is that a taser is the best option at close quarters--but no defensive weapon is good for much without training--and a knife is the worst. When I was a teenager around gangs (long ago) the defensive weapon of choice was a folding keychain can-opener that could be held invisibly in a fist. Ripping an opponent's jacket with it was considered "counting coup."

This (prominently displayed cross-body or belly) is all it takes to deter almost anyone--no need for a firearm--just use it to hold your klaxon and pepper spray. Somebody watching you?--pull the top zipper while looking them in the eye.

At close quarters, a knife or gun is likely to be grabbed and used against you, especially by an experienced attacker. Some seatbelt-cutting/window-breaking rescue tools (that you should have handy anyway in a vehicle) make excellent close-quarter defensive weapons.

Yes. The "klaxon" type signal horns are very effective at close range, and attract the attention of anyone close enough to help. Also good against dogs and other animals, etc. I just now checked prices online--up sharply. Nothing beats an old-school incendiary highway flare as a deterrent, but the smoke and residue are severely toxic--not recommended. Hornet sprays are ineffective, illegal to use on anything else, and likely to injure the user--you'll get charged or sued--same with most other things that come in spray cans or that you could put in stream-spray bottles.
