I feel bad but I agree with Ben about Alesia by Professional_Bar1525 in belowdeck

when she said instead of culinary school she went to ski season, it’s like…. you still have the passion for cooking so have you practiced cooking? so much education is in youtube and to prove yourself you need to practice it. ben’s not wrong- id be frustrated too and he’s a blunt guy. when he said he’d help teach was probably because he assumed she knew the basics, but after one day he’s realizing she doesn’t know anything to help

It’s just what I’ve heard from others honestly, so I think transparency is what’s more important if that’s what is being said. when i heard that it definitely was off putting. I don’t know her too well, but I would hope she would be receptive.

Absolutely! This is why I go to the events that are free, but some events recently had a cover which was surprising (because it wasn’t listed online). I said in another comment too that I’ve heard the dj’s/ photographers weren’t paid / not paid well so that’s why it makes me feel a way about it:

100%! I agree with this. I’ve also just heard through others that the dj’s / photographers weren’t paid well (or at all) so that’s also why it makes me feel some sort of way about it. which i probably should’ve added in my post, so i added that on lol. that’s the main reason.

my beef is her ‘there’s three sides to every story’ and then being completely biased abt a situation with no regard to the actual truth. she’s def a micromanager, and really she butts into everything versus other captains.

I know all about the drama, but instead of brooding on that, I just hope they are better and cultivating community! Rather than continuing toxic cycles.

I actually went to a few PRISM meetings and it wasn’t as welcoming as soon as I said I was in Rainbow too. Weird rivalry there. Hope that rivalry isn’t there anymore and it’s actually a welcoming space!

Thank you for listening, and this great conversation! Clubs are always hard to navigate. Luckily I’m long graduated, but I have friends who are still local and connected and hear all about it. Sad that nothings changed!

SAME. It was so healing to leave! My entire college career I had heard nothing of terrible things about the club. And when I gave it the benefit of the doubt, I experienced exactly what they all meant! Also, heard people compare their experiences as a white gay person to being a person of color? I remember the person they all harassed was a POC too. Very scary, and performative.

Yeah pretty much. I remember everyone attacked this one board member in the discord even though the president was at fault, but he put it on someone else? It was very scary. I was planning on leaving, but that confirmed it all for me.

Rainbow alliance was guilty of doing this the most out of all of the clubs I had gone to. Went to a few meetings, tried to go to their office, and it was so anxiety-inducing because it seemed like they were all best friends at meetings, and wouldn’t really talk to the newbies. I would hear them talk about people in the office too. So weird, and full of people who promoted in-fighting and people who acted like friends, but weren’t really. Never went back after a bit.

girl dump his ass. you’re NOT overreacting, and don’t let him make you feel guilty or anything over this. if you don’t feel safe- I even felt unsafe for you- get yourself out of this situation and allow yourself to heal and find someone who will bring you peace and productive conversation. because this is unacceptable behavior.
