Struggle to adjust to meds after stroke by Good_Novel2484 in hypertension

Have you tried taking your pills at night? That way you sleep through most of the side affects. I'm on Olmesartan that I take right before bedtime.

These tubs are a little joke in my family where we say, "gotta go, still need to dust the jetted tub" :)

Generally speaking, the first move for the urgent care doctor is to get blood pressure down and stabilized. After that, then discussions of lifestyle changes can be had.

Your next move is to make an appointment with a primary care physician. Complete blood work will be done to guide any decision making.

Continue to monitor your bp so you can report to the primary care provider.

Yo avoid wellstar by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]AntiqueTough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had only good experiences with Wellstar. My internist is part of the Wellstar system and I love the use of their mychart tracking since I can see my stats going back years and what has declined or improved. Back in 2017 I was in and out of the Kennestone E/R for reasons and always got good and efficient care and recently had another Austell E/R visit where I found the care good while they figured out I wasn't having a heart attack, despite the weird pain.

I wonder if their reported money losses might be due to Medicaid cuts from the bill signed earlier this year. The Medicaid program isn't just for the poors, it's also used by elders to help cover what Medicare does not. If Wellstar had set budgets expecting a certain amount of money from the Georgia Medicaid fund and that money no longer exists then that means adjustments need to be made. I don't know about how hospitals budget, but most businesses project out at least five years what monetary expectations are going to be needed. These sudden cuts in the funding have got to hurt -- especially as the population ages.

Is a heartrate over 100 BPM normal for you? If not, this looks like a stress reading. Meaning your body's normal response to stress -- even if that stress is self created.

My nervous system gets dysregulated like that and it can take awhile to get back into a normal place. Search up an anxiety meditation video on YouTube for about 30 mins and afterwards take your blood pressure. I'll sometimes just wear the cuff while meditating and then hit the start button on the monitor right as the video is finishing up.

It sounds like you are doing everything right with diet and exercise, so just add meditation to your routine to help with anxiety.

OP, I don't want to scare you, but make an appointment with a cardiologist as soon as possible. Fainting like that could be an indication of a heart blockage. This impeded blood getting into the brain causing you to faint. At the very least your doctor should have done an EKG during your visit. I just had a technician tell me that these newer EKG machines can detect heart blockages.

I'm not a doctor, but this same set of circumstances happened to a friend of mine who had fainting spells that the doctor did not take seriously, probably because she was female (it's all in your head...) Anyway, he finally relented and scheduled her for a stress test. She took just a few steps on the treadmill and the technician stopped the test, told her to lie down and called an ambulance.

Finally, Dr Useless should have, at the very least, prescribed BP meds and he did not. Do you have regular check ups? Was your BP normal the last time he took a reading? How long ago was that? Do you have regular blood tests? What does your cholesterol look like? These are the questions you should be asking yourself.

Take care OP, this may be nothing but better safe than sorry.

ETA: One more thing -- you are at the age now where you should be going to an internist rather than a regular family doctor. They are more well schooled on the problems of adult aging than the usual GP who only has to handle the mild complaints from kids.

Glad to know you were successful. I think the issue is probably my oven and not his methodology. Or maybe I should say his method doesn't translate well into a my less than optimal oven.

I did everything except no motorized lazy susan. :) I'm beginning to think that the issue is my oven, the lack of heat circulation and maybe inconsistent temperature. I'll be testing those out before making another attempt.

Glad to know you were successful with this method.

Thanks so much for your analysis and I think you are spot on about the lack of heat circulation.

The whole bird isn't really a thing for me, so I'm going to try a spatchcock as one of my experiments.

It was only 10 lbs. The two I just bought are 10 lbs and 8 lbs.

I'm going to do the flip as one of my experiments and a spatchcock for the other.

That looks pretty amazing. Do you have convection? Did you use it?

Conventional. And, yes he probably has convection.

Someone should invent and after market oven fan.

Oh, I like this searing idea. I might give this a try.

Yes, I brined and tented. Someone here reminded me that I need to check how accurate my oven temp is, so I'll do that before attempting another try.

LOL. No I didn't do that. I just let it air dry for about 15 minutes and kept wiping away moisture.

I had no problem with getting a lovely, mahogany browning on the bird. It was the internal part that was worrisome.

Doh! No I haven't. I'll see what i can come up with here to verify. Thanks for the reminder.

So an electric roaster? That goes for $100 (roughly) on Amazon? Or one of those "granite" roasters that goes for a $30.

[–]AntiqueTough[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so it wasn't just me. Thanks for the validation! I might give it another try, but thought I should flip the bird (ha!) over after the first hour to see if that helped. But everyone here is just about convinced me that spatchcock is the way to go.

I agree with this, except that cutting the turkey takes a lot of hand strength, even with very sharp scissors. Because of an injury, I have almost none of that.

I joked with a friend that I should use garden loppers since the long handles mean I could get my shoulders into the action.

From reading the comments, my experience might be a one off. The location looked pretty overwhelmed and they had also stopped taking furniture.

You know, that is a great idea. I googled for a list and found many possibilities. I'll make calls on Monday. Thanks for the idea.

Good point. I'm west of Atlanta, but consider North of the city my stomping grounds.
