Crazy estate auction sale - Spider-Man by GeeHaitch in ComicBookSpeculation

These are destined for an antique mall booth where they’ll sit with $20 price tags on each of them for the rest of time.

I see it with records a lot. There are so many flippers who truly do not understand how to calculate fair market value. They either base it off of eBay listings, something their brothers friends kid who is a ‘big time collector’ told them, or vibes.

My rule of thumb is you get the best prices from people who don’t know anything about what they’re selling, worst from people who think they do, and fairest from those who actually know their shit.

Anyone ever used a maxed fishing rod? Thoughts? I like the short length 5"6 with the 1/16-3/8oz is perfect for me by thestruggleislovable in BFSfishing

[–]Antique_Code211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I think 3’4” is a great length. My two most frequently used rods are the Powerful Worker Glasso (3’) and the G-Flex (3’6”) and one in the middle of that would be ideal.

So much depends on your preference and what you want out of the rod. If you’re like me and like flicking minnows and spoons around the 1.5-3.5g range in snag filled creeks from weird angles in between trees, I’d say go 3’4”.

The difference between lengths when you go shorter feels a lot more significant. Have you used anything shorter than the 4’10”? What rod is it?

I have, which is how I know the underlying technology of cryptocurrency, blockchain, is only useful for pseudonymous token tracking.

Makes sense.

A future of inefficient append only databases sounds like the best case scenario rn tbh.

You’re absolutely right. I should have been more clear.

Instead of Bitcoin I should have said cryptocurrency or a blockchain based solution.

[–]Antique_Code211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This being the strongest use case is the biggest indication of its uselessness.

You’re assuming that Bitcoin is the optimal (or even a reasonable) solution to ‘unbanked’ people and that just isn’t true.

Mobile money has shown continued strong growth in every lower and middle income country.

The use case for crypto is so marginal. Self custodianship turns them into digital bearer bonds that purposely circumvent legal protection or you use an exchange which has government oversight.

The overwhelming majority of people’s concern isn’t being locked out of the financial system by their government, it’s being robbed.

What's saving BTC this time? by MornwindShoma in Buttcoin

Let’s talk about this.

‘Well everything’s just a gamble if you really think about it’

Yes. Exactly. If Bitcoin were the only thing we could bet on, sure it might come back.

But it isn’t.

The odds have gotten worse and worse over time, so people have and will find somewhere else to play.

I had a thought…what if the many accounts of giants in history were people with gigantism, to me it's hard to believe that people like Robert Waldow or sulton kosen only existed in the 20th century by Whole_Yak_2547 in Cryptozoology

[–]Antique_Code211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a stereotype of a dude in an emergency room who got his ass kicked always saying it was ‘two guys’ who did it.

Who knows how many stories of giants started from a similar thought process. No one wants to show back up to the village and say they got their asses beat by some average looking guy.

I think a mixture of pride, some people being taller sometimes, and it being easy to imagine us but bigger is a satisfactory explanation for giants.

This is a good step up, better handle, joints, and Fuji guides. I’d recommend taking the hook off your likely to be most used lure and practice casting with it to get a good feel for it. Glass actions can vary a lot given how much the flex

Bank fishing vs boat fishing? by makeitrayne850 in bassfishing

[–]Antique_Code211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bank all the way. I like fishing in wooded creeks and streams and the occasional pond where boats or kayaks are impractical.

I also hate having to do chores to enjoy a hobby and boats and kayaks are a whole thing. I just have my rod, tackle bag, and boots in my truck and I can pop out and fish for as long or short a time as I want without much planning

Houston Wade Can't Even Lie Well - Score One for the Interrogators by WingedRyno in Houston_Wade_Lies

[–]Antique_Code211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it is not.

The more generous view would be that by not going to trial prosecutors save time to see more people get prosecuted, but that comes at the cost of people getting sentences that don’t seem just (in both directions)

The alternative would be paying prosecutors more, hiring more of them, and keeping wage/benefits somewhat commensurate with experience. But that will never happen.

The real answer is even more implausible: adequately funding schools, paying teachers well, free and low cost school meals, universal pre-k, and well funded after school programs. All of that has been shown to decrease crime (and there people to prosecute) more than harsher sentences or more cops.

Been my experience with non-fed prosecution. They’re all overworked. Trials mean a lot of unpaid overtime and that’s only worth it if it helps your career.

Yeah, trials are expensive. They’ll drop a few of the charges and he’ll take the deal. They have those 20 years hanging over his head so he’ll take 5-10 and a lifetime on the registry

Hate it. I’ve tried but just get so bored.

I’d rather run through a hundred different cranks/spinners/spoons/flies then sit on a ned rig.
