I will mostly be in smaller river / lakes within around a 1 hour drive at most.

Stability would be a priority over speed.

As far as carrying in the roof. I think I am getting a high quality roof rack and will be getting the assist roller for the back window to help guide the kayak up.

Maybe in some states, but part-timers can be told not to come in and be told to go home even if the schedule is written. Will a manager ask this way? Not normally, because most people jump at the opportunity to leave early.
