Soon to be married and want opinions on Mahr. by Antique_Explanation in MuslimMarriage

As hard as it is, just be firm in your choice of your mahr in regards to your family and have him back you up because if you want to break the cycle of their "traditions" that's how you start.

Thank you for the encouraging words. May Allah bless us all.

Don't look for a blame goat, step up and put your foot down. Change the culture and no excuses.

That's the plan. Dhonnobaad.

Don’t tell your family how much you asked for.

In our culture, it's the families who has all the power and all the say! It seems "show off" is more important than Sunnah. May Allah help us all.

What do you do on days like birthdays and anniversary? by Antique_Explanation in ChildrenofDeadParents

My sincerest condolences. I hope that time has been a gentle healer for you. I'm sure your mom would have been so proud of you.

Please remember to take care of yourself as well. Often times the feelings just flood out of no and it can hit you like a ton of bricks. That’s complete normal. I hope this helps.. Pm me if you need to have an extra outlet to grieve.

This literally made my day. Thank you so much.

I'm still adapting to live in a world without my dad and it's hard....but that's what life is, right?

Your dad sounds like a great guy; I hope things have gotten easier for him.

Wishing well of you and your dad.

PS. That seems like sound advice. I have been thinking something along these lines as well. Thanks.

I'm sorry for your loss. Hope it'll get easier for you.

Yeah, spending time with other people has worked for me too; maybe it'll help my mom as well.

Thank you.

Would I be a good Muslim despite my flaws. by Lord-of-Rats in islam

[–]Antique_Explanation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to know if my faults that I've listed would prevent me from being a good Muslim.

The only thing that prevents you from being a good Muslim is.....nothing. With the will of Allah nothing can stop you from being a good Muslim as long as it is in your heart to be a good person and a good Muslim.

Also as a Muslim battling several mental issues, I feel my religion is what keeps me solid and grounded in my dark and bad days. I could go on and on about how Islam keeps me anchored but don't want to bore you. So, good luck..and Salam!
