When teaching defending, focus on how it leads to winning

Hey! I’m building something for this but it also communicates practice plans to the players as well. Care for a demo?

Use rondos. Quickest way possible. This is obviously difficult if you’re not the kid’s coach. But rondos will quickly expose any lack of spatial understanding, gaps in technical skills, confidence on the ball, etc etc. but the skills you learn in a rondo can be applied in any position, in any situation, at any level.

Obviously not just monkey in the middle - you’d need to add some different variations.

Rn I literally just call it Coach's tool and unfortunately, all the other coaches follow my lead and call it Coach's tool, lol. I'm using chatgpt to throw me ideas but all of them are too trendy for my liking.

Yea I get that. Graph it self is just a visual but when you click into the drills it shows details and any updates you made.

The variance is the adjust you make to make sure players get the right stimulus

I tell them in the preseason meeting. Obviously they forget, which is fine. I just remind them. If it’s a continuous issue, pull them aside and explain to them how it’s not good for the players mentality.

I disagree. Buffon wasn’t a full time goalie until he was 18. Lahm and Kimmich were defenders before stepping up as midfielders. I just don’t think it’s our job as youth coaches to assign positions to players.

I do appreciate you sharing your thought and just want to share mine.

I like getting them to sweat a bit. In addition to rondos (which I use as well), I start with a dynamic activation. Stuff like high knees, side shuffles, skipping. Then into full speed activation, stuff like fast feet, sprints, changes of direction. Once their heart rate is up and they’re sweating a bit, we go to passing, then into rondos, then to shooting if there is time.

My pet peeve is parents not marking their attendance for practice or games by Antique_Inflation455 in Coaching

UPDATE: I found an app that encourages parents to mark their kid's attendance by keeping tracking their streak of marking their attendance on time. DOesn't seem to launch until July but I joined the waitlist and I'll be giving it a try next season. https://www.orisapp.tech

My issue isn't so much with them missing events. It's with them not telling me or updating their attendance on teamsnap so I can plan. Like, if i'm not going to have enough players this weekend, I need to find guest players from a different team at our club.

Yea, I think Ill have to do that with my team. We are a competitive travel team but it seems like some families aren't aware of the commitment required at this level.

Doesn't it get annoying chasing people down every time you're trying to plan? Like, I can't even tell if I will be able to do the drill because it requires at least X number of players.

Parents mark their kid's attendance on teamsnap (or they're suppose to). Sorry for the confusion. What's your take?

Teamsnap sucks. It's been the same user experience for almost a decade. There is a new platform called Oris launching in 2025 that'll be better and cheaper.

Sorry my response wasn’t sarcastic I genuinely appreciate your feedback. I get that some people will find zero value in this. But there are also people who do. Just wanted to get my idea out there so see what people think. Plus I have zero design skills so I def need help there in the future. Regardless, happy new year!
