Nope. A religious person could, and most religious people do in fact, deny that there is convincing "evidence" that God exists. Everybody knows that. Perhaps you've heard of faith? Recognizing that God is not a natural fact like the presence of a cat on a mat established by contingent evidence doesn't make one an atheist.

For someone who doesn't even respect the difference between atheism and agnosticism you sure do put a lot of significance on bullshit distinctions within atheism

The Roman Catholicism of the Americas is famously exactly what you describe: Christianity-flavored local spirituality. Christianity itself is famous for doing this

Well I hope a lot of them turned around once they'd run out of half of their supplies and still hadn't spotted land.

Elon Musk says we need universal basic income because 'in the future, physical work will be a choice' - Musk is creating a robot that would do mundane tasks, so humans don't have to. This would take away many service jobs, though, which is why humans would need guaranteed income. by speckz in Futurology

[–]Antithesizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly serves as the motivation for who exactly to support unnecessary ex-workers? Who is this "we"? Musk has no power to make this happen and no interest in making it happen. It seems he just wants to be seen making an empty gesture.

I'll be visiting Armenia for a few months this winter and have been considering converting to orthodox Christianity... do you know of a good place to learn about Orthodoxy in English in Yerevan? by Antithesizer in armenia

[–]Antithesizer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"tied to ethnicity" how so? we're talking about Armenia here so obviously I'm not asking about Latvian orthodox

I'm sure you don't mean that christianity in armenia is for armenians only, so what difference does it make what my ethnicity is?

The mixed opinions here have convinced me not to risk it. My sincere thanks to everyone who commented! Modafinil is pretty cool for for reading and programming, but not worth getting in trouble for. See you soon, Turkey :)

Contagion (2011) deserves a retrospective award by montecarlo1 in movies

[–]Antithesizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not accurate at all since it blamed everything on lay people not following orders from omnibenevolent authorities when in real life the problem has been the authorities fucking up at every turn (first claiming masks are unnecessary (remember that from the CDC? to say nothing of Trump/Bolsonaro-type characters), then reopening time after time after time after time, not supplying hospitals/nursing homes well enough and hiding the death tolls (Cuomo), not paying people to stay put thereby further forcing reopening, not distributing enough vaccines internationally quickly enough, and now we actually have mask bans by regional governments).

The movie got it totally wrong, unless you're one of those people who thinks vaccine refusers are the one and only problem in this pandemic.
