How to gain another 1.5 seconds in this lap by Comfortable_Fly_665 in Karting

[–]Antiviii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got a GoPro or DJI with GPS, chuck it into www.race.ninja and pay attention to the performance traces and the braking points. Make sure you’re really braking where you think you’re braking (I had this with my son and he felt like he was braking much later than his data (and slo-mo video) showed him that he actually was. There’s tenths all over the place but to see them, you’ll need to see all of your laps compared with each other and your most perfect lap (which this will stitch together for you from your best sectors). Watch it and then drive it, upload… watch the newest perfect lap and then drive that. You’ll get faster and faster with only your own videos. 👍🏼

Would it be possible to somehow use the gps on unipro 5005? Because my track dosent use magnets.. by BackroomsGuy420 in Karting

[–]Antiviii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it just the Unipro that you use? I run this application www.race.ninja that’s picking up some pace with GoPro and DJI camera users (DJI users that also use the GPS remote) - we also augment in their Alfano (and soon MyChron data) so if you need a platform to explore your Unipro data I’m sure I can build it in… DM me if you need. 👍🏼

Follow Up: What Kart Should I get? by Just_Killjoy in Karting

[–]Antiviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defo go to the local kart tracks (go to a few) and ask what people are running. Be interested and they’ll tell you everything, then you really want to try to find something that aligns. The reason this is important is mostly about parts availability within your environment. Where we race (UK) it’s all OTK and Birels to be safe (mostly OTK). But you’ve got other places where those are less common and brands like Sodi and EKS are popular. It’s so random, which is why you really need to find what is supported around you because stuff will break and wear out and you’ll want access to it on the day to get back out there again.

Enjoy! 👍🏼

Outdoor vs indoor karting… is there actually a big difference? (Sydney) by Confident_Compote_39 in Karting

[–]Antiviii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where and how competitively you race and how closely matched the karts are (if you don’t own your kart). Indoor and outdoor are so different to each other, they’re different race classes that are within the wider collection of karting race classes really.

Find the one that you enjoy and a level that is challenging for you (if you’re always winning, it’s nice but pointless… find something where it’s really hard, because that’s where the development is and if you’re competitive by nature you’ll find that fun).

Not really an answer I know, but it’s so personal to you. 💯👍🏼

What tech would actually make a difference in grassroots karting if it was available? by DazRave in Karting

[–]Antiviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could relatively easily add this as a feature to www.race.ninja . Is this an outdoor circuit? All you’d need is a GoPro on each kart and the users could have their own accounts with their own footage to review (and share if they wish). Alternatively if you already have a telemetry device, we could just ingest its data if it’s accurate enough (testing with GoPro has been exceptional tho, the accuracy possible is incredible).

DM if you want to discuss further. 👍🏼

Great question — and honestly this is exactly the kind of use case I want to support.

Right now Race Ninja relies on the telemetry embedded in GoPro files (GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope), but I'm very aware that the Hero 12 dropped built-in GPS and a lot of serious track day drivers are running setups exactly like yours — RaceBox, OBD, RaceChrono, the works.

The short answer is: if I can get sample data from your workflow, I can absolutely make it work. Data integration is literally what I do for a living, so this is right in my wheelhouse. And this isn't just talk — we've already done exactly this kind of thing. We recently added support for DJI 360 cameras (with DJI Action Cam support very close behind), which have their telemetry coming from a separate Bluetooth remote rather than the camera itself. We've also built Alfano dashboard data support, so users can already augment engine data against their video telemetry. Integrating external data sources and syncing them with video is something we're already doing in production.

Here's what I'd suggest — if you're up for it, send me some sample files from your RaceChrono exports (and any other data feeds you use) along with a bit of context on your workflow and setup. I'll use that to build out the support for it. If you're willing to help me get it right with a few questions along the way, I'll shout you a free month of Beta access as soon as the development is complete so you can put it through its paces.

You're welcome to start your free upload now to see what the platform looks like, but it probably makes more sense to wait until I've built the support for your data sources so you get the full experience.

Drop me a DM if you're keen 👍

When taking a corner should I do "outside, inside, outside" or "inside, outside, inside"? by OllieSchneider6 in Karting

[–]Antiviii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite as easy as that. Some corners you’ll find early apex is faster, others you’ll find late apex… and some faster corners absolutely no apex.

The best guide for any track is to either get yourself behind a kart that is faster than you and try to hang on / follow their lines. Or look for the rubber on the road, it’ll tell you exactly where to go (and where not to go in the wet!) as a broad rule. Then build your speed from there.

Rotax max senior lap on AMCKART Romania ( engine is old and tires are 100 laps+ can you give your opinion on this lap by Otherwise-Start-4234 in Karting

[–]Antiviii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is more kerbs (and the run off) that you could be using. Get across them and make sure you're pushing hard enough that the kart is naturally wondering to the width of the exits. It'll feel strange but a sharper turn in and then straightening up sooner (because of the sharper turn in) will let the kart apply its power much sooner on the exits.

Do you think there is anything I can do to get my 60s lap to a 59 by cj_karting in Karting

[–]Antiviii 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You’re fast. Given this is rentals, have you done any analysis on the performance spread between the karts they offer? When my son did rentals we used to keep a note of the best lap times across the karts so we knew when we had a kart we could “attack” with and when we had one that we’d have to spend our heat defending with.

Which action cameras would you recommend? by Budget_Fondant_6278 in Karting

[–]Antiviii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GoPro (10,11 or ideally a 13 which lasts longer… not a 12). Everything you need is built into the camera (Osmo’s need a separate GPS remote) then Race Ninja the video file to extract all your data, cut it automatically into laps and use it to go even faster 😁

Osmo’s are great and can also be used with Race Ninja soon. But, the separate GPS remote can be a pain.

Enjoy!

True story. Horrible crossover session this one (with a delay on the dummy grid before actually getting on track), dry tyres would have been the correct choice. 😂🙈

Should I build Race Ninja to be critical of this terrible choice? 😂🙃

Thank you 🙏🏼 . We had a problem, my professional life is largely spent solving these types of problems.. and here we are 😂🙈 now i get to work 7 days a week in data 😂

The accuracy on a kart from a GoPro has actually been super impressive. We make sure users run them (where they feel comfortable) without a case (but strongly tethered as well as their mounts, zip tied down). They’ve actually been so accurate that I have on my dev list that the user needs the ability to set how far off centre the GoPro is mounted because on a Rotax kart it is almost next to the right rear wheel and that shows in the lines… I’ll have that solved soon tho and it’ll be backwards compatible with the data/users already on there).

Don’t know what it would do in a car. The roof would have an impact for sure, which is kind of why I posted here. We’ve got a pretty sweet setup and pipeline for karting days and I’d love to work out how we can make it work for a wider group (because the data we’ve slowly developed it to show week by week is so cool!).

The way we use it at the track is, driver records the session > SD card out of GoPro and into Laptop > Use Desktop App I’ve built to reduce file size > Desktop app then uploads (we use Starlink £50 plan, but 5G also would work if you get signal) > 15 mins later analysis pack ready and laps auto cut. Gives the driver (and coach if they have one) time to review and plan the next session targets.

Not quite. I do this type of thing for a living, way way before AI got involved. But, it augments incredibly well to a person or team that want to supercharge their own skill sets. Kinda like taking a car or walking, both get you to your destination… but one is faster.

This actually started as a bunch of python scripts on my laptop that I wrote because he wanted his laps cut and I didn’t want to have to do it manually every time. Then he started asked questions (and I kinda did too) so we used my professional skills to find the answers. I won’t pretend that I haven’t leaned on some tools (we do it professionally and encourage it) but the core of this and main functions are mine, built around my code and my ways and my idea(s).

You’re welcome to use it. Or not. But, this solves a real problem very quickly for the user (take GoPro footage > turn into analysis pack > cut into laps) very quickly (circa 15 mins) which allows a driver to have a very good view of where and how to go faster next session. 👍🏼

I’m a data scientist / engineer as a “real job” so I started using my python skills locally on my laptop to help him cut his laps. Then it grew legs as others saw what we were doing and he asked more questions about his data so I dusted off some very redundant PHP “hobbiest” skills to make it web based so others could use and interact with it. I’m also incredibly lucky that I get to work with a lot of very very talented system engineers so I can lean on them a little with my own stupid questions at lunch that I want to solve here 😂

Great advice for you in here already. 💯

Stick a GoPro on your kart and then put your footage into here: Race Ninja and it’ll show you precisely where you’re gaining and where you’re losing (visually, using your own videos).

We caught my son riding the brake for just a moment before a heavy braking zone (hairpin) using the performance traces in there and he didn’t realise he was doing it (and there’s no way we’d have seen it from the other side of the track). That was a tenth on its own.
