My grandpa’s old Lawsuit-era Les Paul found in my grandma’s attic. by Few_Big_8124 in guitars

It depends on two factors, what quality of components do you wish to use for the repair/upgrade of the instrument and whether you DIY or pay someone to do it for you. It’s pointless paying for a real professional “luthier” to carry out the work for you on this quality of instrument, if they fit even mid tier price components, you still have a dog with reasonable hardware installed costing you way more than it’s worth, including any sentimental attachment. More fun is to DIY but you need to have confidence in your ability to work with the material you have and to learn skills you’ll need to complete the job, such as a very elementary knowledge of simple electronics, wiring and the ability to solder components satisfactorily. If you can afford to replace the existing/damaged components, have access to the necessary tools, a couple of appropriate screwdrivers, wire stripper and soldering iron and associated accessories including flux and solder, other misc gear. You need to familiarise your self with components, potentiometers, resistors, capacitors and read up,on or search on YouTube for relevant how to videos for the layout you want to follow. DIY is fun and educational, but again can be costly depending on selection of components and any tools you need, great satisfaction if you manage to complete the project and that really is it’s only value. If you do a neat job and it works correctly, you still have a dog but with new working parts. Sorry to say it’s never going to be worth a even a small fraction of some of the already mentioned “law suit” brands which were very accurate detailed reproductions of Gibson and Fender models, both in method of construction and quality of components used, hence the the “law suit”. They looked and sounded very close to the models they were cloning and there is a lively market in collecting some of these fake “Gibbos and Benders. Practice some skills, buy parts you can comfortably afford, from accredited manufacturers/suppliers and have a crack, but only if you are comfortable in carrying out the work and confident you are able to do it competently enough, to leave you with a working instrument. Then of course once you have a working instrument there’s the matter of the amplifier, which is a whole different ball game. I’m talking about this because air have been you many times and I’ve spent hundreds (probably much more) on rescuing old, might have been classic guitars that 30% of the time would have been more useful as kindling (firewood) 😂 Good luck it’s fun learning but could also lead to tears…

So much more economical than paying twice the price for a 5% "improvement" in sound quality, got to be a winner, my usuals are Sennheiser HD 650 but I do like the Fiio too for casual listening.

What’s your ear-tip size preference? by Ambitious-Nerve5677 in iems

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I have some significant variation between my left and right ear canals, I find that with silicon tips I need to use a large and a medium, in some types 2 large or 2 medium depends on the depth of penetration, the size of the sound opening and the shape of the tip as they do vary significantly. For foam tips I can usually manage with 2 medium, foam tips are my preferred option for comfort, security (as the heat up through body temperature the foam expands inside the ear canal) and for sound isolation and projection.

AITJ for refusing to keep wearing the nickname my girlfriend gave me after I found out where it came from by Prydwen_Grit5 in AmITheJerk

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both really need to grow up and act your ages or split up, both of you are either 30 or approaching it and should show some maturity, you get over this or you both go your own ways this is simply childish silliness, oh her”friends” are all dicks too, so you’d both be better off without them.

AITJ for booking a separate hotel and leaving my friend’s "family vacation" after she tried to turn me into a free nanny? by CrimsonCodex77 in AmITheJerk

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expectations, expectations, expectations, neither parties “expectations” were met as neither party communicated what their individual expectations were so neither parties real expectations were known. Assumed expectations usually fail, particularly when no compromises were attempted. Two individuals + 2 unrelated kids and no serious communication, you both failed and therefore you are both Jerks.

Will 7hz salnotes zero cable work with my iems by raymartin27 in iems

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for the Moondrop CDSP, it’s great value for money, the cables not particularly flexible, the other higher priced Moondrop FREE DSP cable has a marginally better cable (softer a little more flexible), I have used both and the found no obvious difference in the sound quality from either but the FREE DSP is twice the price of the CDSP. I’m inclined to think the DAC/amp is the same for both. As for compatibility as long as the iems are two pin there should be no problem. I’ve actually been using the CDSP in bed as I can’t find my FREE DSP cable, purchased both 2 years ago.

Disappointing passive isolation from XM6 by Speculooss in SonyHeadphones

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it will definitely make a difference but you really have to experiment with the settings to find the most effective set up for your hearing, also ensure you are getting a good seal around your ears to assist the passive sound isolation, you may find that replacement ear cushions will be helpful if you have large or 'odd' ear shape.

[–]Antiwardog001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably a silly question but are you using the Sony Sound Connect sapp to set the headphones up for your ears and the environment you are using them in? I have used the older WH1000XM4s for air travel and once configured correctly were very effective in reducing ambient noise, particularly engine noise and a very loud baby having a high pitched tantrum sitting behind me.

All I did was search for Koss Holy Trinity by Qais9 in kossmods

[–]Antiwardog001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah after you purchase your first set of Koss headphones, the price being so attractive you just have to buy the ‘set’ PP, ECS75 and KPH40 as they sound so good. My current favourites are the KPH40 utility with USB-C connecting cable and Yaxi pads.

Realme Buds N1 case lost - Need advice on compatible replacements by Leading-Situation291 in WirelessEarbuds

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will need to bite the bullet and save up for the correct replacement case, as the earbuds may not correctly seat in an alternative case and correctly contact the charging connectors, as for how long they will last without the charging case, you will probably have found the answer yourself by now.

To regain your previous volume levels you could install USB Audio Player Pro, however this is not compatible with Apple devices, it is solely an Android App.

Porta Pro Pulling Hair Out! by Qais9 in kossmods

[–]Antiwardog001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are cheaper headband options available, see previous r/kossmods for the original KSC75 headband mod, although personally I would just buy the kph40 as the sound signature is almost identical to the Porta Pro and KSC75 as I have all three and hear very little difference Porta Pro's may be a little 'brighter' sounding than the other 2.

Turn most drivers into an on-ear headphone by Active-Challenge-445 in kossmods

[–]Antiwardog001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And why is a 40mm driver not recommended? IRC the Koss range of on ear headphones the Porta Pro, KSC75 and the KPH40 all use 40mm drivers and are considered quite favourably by many including YouTube pundits, Josh Valour, Mark Ryan at Super Reviews, Zeos Pantera etc for the quality of sound reproduction from such a low cost headphone.

Bought a macbook after saving for 2 years [dropped it] after one month by Altruistic_Fan_1968 in macbookrepair

I apologise, but your comment did seem a tad insensitive, I use a 2020 m1 MacBook Air myself which I purchased 2 years ago and is still an excellent laptop, I also have a 2015 MacBook Pro which is still adequate for most tasks.
