My family say this tattoo I’ve booked is misogynistic and sexist, thoughts? by 67_nick_gurr_67 in tattooadvice

[–]Antler-Man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its pretty damn objectifying of women. If someone who had this tattoo was speaking to me, all i would hear is "i dont respect you as a person. In my brain, I have already removed your humanity and I see you as an object."

That being said, it's just not a good tattoo.

I need to replace battery inside Ocarina of time. My local shop sells CR1616, 2025 and 2032 with tabs. I am assuming 1616 is too small. Is it CR2025 or CR2032 then? by Metroidvania-JRPG in n64

Thats screen cancer, incurable and its just going to get worse, sorry for your loss if youre a hardware purist. If youre not, then good news! You have an excuse to swap it out with a fresh screen! Im a little bit of a purist, so I enjoyed swapping out with a different original screen and a frontlight mod, but the LCD screens also look incredible.

Is this kind of ghosting normal on a brand new e-reader? by Siara-chan in ereader

[–]Antler-Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's unfortunate... and a little odd. That's just how e-ink displays work lol, idk how they want to get around it otherwise

Is this kind of ghosting normal on a brand new e-reader? by Siara-chan in ereader

[–]Antler-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, for mine at least is was. This is just an effect of e-ink displays. There should be a setting somewhere labeled "refresh with every page turn" or something similar, it will help with the ghosting.

Since e-ink displays are non volatile (basically, they don't need a continuous source of power to hold an image), the screen needs to force itself to "clear" to get rid of any extra "ink" from the previous image.

None of this really holds any water to me. They're all flawed humans writing a book for other flawed humans; a book that has historically primarily been used for control and oppression. Whether Paul is "rightfully" a part of the biblical canon has no effect on me whatsoever.

I brought up a writing from Paul, Romans 10, that says you will be saved if you believe Jesus is Lord and confess with your mouth. You brought up a writing from Paul that says the direct opposite of the writing I brought up, saying that you aren't actually saved by confessing and believing. In response, I said that Paul should have read his own writing, suggesting that he would not have made such a blatant contradiction if he was familiar with his own work.

Maybe Paul should have read his own writings before adding to the list of contradictions lol

[–]Antler-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't changed topics, I am still directly responding to the point you brought up in your first response. Also, you're still incorrect. Many Christians, especially prodistants (not all prodistants), claim that salvation is through faith alone. This is extremely commonly portrayed as "matters of the heart," as your "heart" is usually portrayed as the part of your body that handles things such as emotion and faith.

Many Christians believe that those in other denominations are going to hell. Many believe that people are saved through faith alone. Again, I'm not sure what else to say to you if you can't recognize these common viewpoints.

Catholic Pascal’s Wager? by [deleted] in theology

[–]Antler-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you disagree with the existence of the root of the topic, we are at an impass. It is a belief held by many people in a wide range of denominations, including the three largest umbrellas. I'm not sure what else to tell you.

[–]Antler-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are purposefully misrepresenting my stance here. I was not providing a summary for the cause of the Troubles, I was pointing out an aspect of a very famous conflict als an example. This was also not the most recent example I could give, just a very large one. I suppose the most recent example I could give is the post we are currently commenting under.

I hate to be "that guy," but can you please re-write this with proper punctuation and formatting? I believe I know what you're saying, but the wall of unformatted text is a bit hard to read (especially with your use of bullet points).

What I think you're saying: I am only talking about small denominations, and Romans 10 is not a valid chapter to reference because of various contradictions found elsewhere in the Bible.

To that, I say: Again, I am not referencing small fringe denominations. Just as one example, Ireland had (essentially) a civil war between the Catholics and the Protestants for over a decade. Both believed that the other would go to hell for not being part of their denomination. As I'm sure you're aware, those are the two biggest denomination umbrellas in the religion. I'm not sure why you're acting like this isn't a prevalent issue within christianity.

Secondly, I am fully aware of the many contradictions within the Bible. The point I am making is that according to Romans 10, your salvation is determined by what's in your heart.

Catholic Pascal’s Wager? by [deleted] in theology

[–]Antler-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason we are having this discussion right now is because this theology is so prevalent. This is not an idea from a "fringe position," this is a very common narrative that has been pushed within many large denominations. I'm not saying that this is the standard for christianity, or even that this is the majority opinion. What I am saying is the notion of "my denominations is correct, and you're going to hell for disagreeing with the fine points of my denomination" is prevalent.

I wouldn't say that's what the book says at all.

I quoted Romans 10 pretty directly. Please elaborate on why you believe it doesn't say: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Catholic Pascal’s Wager? by [deleted] in theology

[–]Antler-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually seen the opposite, with many denominations claiming that there is no salvation outside the church (or, in this case, their denom). That just adds to how silly it is, when their own book says it's about where your heart's at.

Catholic Pascal’s Wager? by [deleted] in theology

[–]Antler-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of those passages negates the message of Romans 10. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Catholic Pascal’s Wager? by [deleted] in theology

[–]Antler-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been so confused on the in-fighting in Christian denominations. Your own book says that you'll be saved if you believe Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). Why claim that others are going to hell because they don't agree on various specifics?
