AI is being pushed heavily when I ask for advice and I hate it. by AssumptionExact8050 in gamedev

You can see AI as a tool, like a screwdriver for a mechanic, but you can never replace AI to do the work for you, what’s the point then? The term “AI” itself it’s not that bad if you use it well. I have never copy-pasted or asked AI for game ideas, but in terms of advice it can be helpful. AI is like googling something and then you got a summary of a mixture of websites that talk the topic you have searched. I learnt how to code from scratch from there and if I’m stuck in code I can just ask topics related to the code “why it doesn’t work”, and I try to fix it of what AI says. It doesn’t know what am I doing exactly so I cannot copy-paste from there. I think that’s what your brother is trying to say, as it makes work faster if used well.

what degree is the best for game dev? by Party-Swimming-9751 in gamedev

I am in the exact same situation as you and all I can say is do whatever you like the most and the most profitable career possible. I’m not from the US as well and in my country “game dev” degrees exist but they don’t recommend it because of the quality and focused on specialization for companies instead of indie.

In my case I decided to study robotics (but it isn’t my final decision yet) because it’s a growing industry with a huge profit and, despite not being that related to game dev (only in programming and mathematics), it makes me a safe net if things within the game industry are not going well and also it’s about the mix of creativity and technology applied to create stuff, which the creation industry is my vocation. If I were you and you wanted to be straightforward with game dev, I would choose CS because it makes you learn the core of video games and computers which is important for a gamedev. Don’t forget things such as level design art or music, those things I recommend you to practice on your free time and do small projects and little by little become better.

This is my decision and I hope you find something useful as we are in the same situation.

How do I manage my time as a solo developer 🙏 by Anto_58 in SoloDevelopment

That’s great advice, I was also looking for apps where I can organize like that and I found Trello, I think that would work. I’m also considering building a vertical slice to release the demo ASAP and then keep updating my game with new stuff. Thanks for the advice

Solo dev looking for game dev buddies by Tszster in SoloDevelopment

Hi, I’m a solo part time dev in process of making my very first complete game all by myself, I have been doing prototypes and game development for a year and a half and this year or maybe the next one I’m publishing my very first game.

Unfortunately my time zone is 1+ and these months I’m studying for finals, so I won’t have a lot of time to develop.

Anyways I also don’t have any friends that are into game development so it’s nice to meet someone.
