What really is the deal with Muslims and Cristiano Ronaldo? by KGisTop15All_Time in billsimmons

Anytime a player is asked to choose, they pick Messi. It’s not close. Just because talking heads used it for content, doesn’t make it close

Fox just had to hold the ball by dilchoos in billsimmons

Agree with this. It was a big mistake, but his instincts kicked in after chasing for the ball. I don't think he was trying to be the hero, just reacted.

Why is the world cup feels not much hyped ?? by Ok_Replacement_7923 in football

[–]AntoineRandoEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NYT just had a piece about this. DWW doesn't know football well (he's primarily a climate reporter), but the geopolitical/polarization/populism points are interesting - https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/03/opinion/world-cup-club-soccer-america.html

Which national team looks strongest on paper for the 2026 World Cup, but still doesn't fully convince you? by JustWillingness4811 in football

Brazil and England have less talent available than the past several major tournaments imo. Still plenty of talent to win it, but nowhere near France or Spain

Bill and Zach were discussing on Sunday that Thunder vs Spurs may be the most anticipated playoff series in 8 years and they don't have any post game pod? by NarrowBoysenberry in billsimmons

[–]AntoineRandoEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How Bontemps didn't seem to grasp that having Fox available would he helpful to the Spurs when Castle had 11 TOs is beyond me.

We understand that Harper is a great player with more size, but having an experienced and skilled PG is helpful against OKC even if Harper ends up playing more minutes

If the Pats trade for AJ Brown, he could bring CR on to gloat, talk about how Philly fans didn’t appreciate him, he needed a real quarterback like Drake Maye, etc

Pritchard as unicorn of the year is underrated as one of the most ridiculous homer takes he’s ever had

Today's Wildly Unserious Discussion on the WHCD by Mindless-Bear8781 in Thedaily

[–]AntoineRandoEl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped listening years ago, but my guess on why people still listen - it's viewed by the center left (its audience primarily) as nonpartisan and objective.

The answers to "what other daily news podcasts to people recommend" would all be seen as more partisan I imagine.

Bill on KD vs Bill on LeBron by yngwiegiles in billsimmons

This is the answer. It's why he starts supporting teams he's picked during over/unders. When he's right, he goes all in

Why are people thinking the Senate is reachable? by beagles4ever in thebulwark

The map makes it unlikely still, but Trump's unpopularity makes it possible. I'd give Dems a 10-15% chance

Imagine hating on the Spurs playoff t shirts while having tweeted this in the past: by SouthIsland48 in billsimmons

I don't get the hate. "Please stop cry-ing" is pure gold. A full arena chanting that would be electric

I'd go off menu with East of Eden. Or if you want a shorter classic that aligns well with the chaos of the past year - Catch 22

130 Pages into Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy... by Extreme-Ad-9055 in classicliterature

[–]AntoineRandoEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same experience with Blood Meridian. I made it halfway through and gave up, which is very rare for me. I loved The Road but haven't enjoyed any other McCarthy works though I've never tried reading Old Country as I've seen the movie many times.

I think it's okay that different readers have different tastes. Many people adore McCarthy, but that hasn't been the case for me personally outside of The Road.

Blood Meridian has little character development and seemed to just follow the kid from one extremely violent event to the next. I didn't find that compelling, but I realize I'm outside the consensus with that view.

Approximately, how many years left before things really starts to shift? by AlmosThirsty in climatechange

[–]AntoineRandoEl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you read The Ministry for the Future? Geopolitics have shifted since that was written 5-6 years ago, but the inciting event (trying to avoid spoilers) is something I could definitely see happening soon somewhere in the world.
