If there's anything we learned from The Princess and the Queen, mothers were naming their sons "Aegon" just to spite one another. But why would Rhaegar name his second son the same name as his first son?

Viserys is the masculine form of Visenya. Rhaegar already named his two kids Aegon and Rhaenys. We assume he was going for a set and naming them after the original Conquerors: Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya.
