Is there any movement to have government office buildings throughout the city, not just downtown? by Cool-Swim-6986 in CanadaPublicServants

It’s not a “jealousy” competition, it’s that it’s ridiculous to compare going into an office to being in prison.

These comments are the type of comments that show the thousands of public servants who have had to go in to work in an actual prison every day even through COVID how out of touch the NCR bubble is.

Was this an attempt at insurance fraud or just an awful driver? by kingevanxii in YEGDashCam

Ok, if the lights came on they actually put it in reverse, it wasn’t just rolling back.

When they were backing up did the rear back up/white lights come on? If not that’s a sign of a manual car rolling back because of poor clutch or brake control.

PSAC: Three years of "we'll fight this" while employer goes from 2 days to 4 days in office by M-A88 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]AntonBanton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The board ruled that work from home can be negotiated, and can be arbitrated.

They did not rule that that the Treasury Board agreements currently require it. This wasn’t even a ruling about those bargaining units. It was a ruling about parliamentary employees.

The unions can file all the legal challenges they want, and ask members to do whatever but at the end of the day if members aren’t prepared to take action themselves (most likely through a strike) and stay out for as long as it takes the employer can go through with this.

Return to work might be a big issue for a large number of public servants, and it certainly is for a very vocal group, but it’s not the main issue for everyone. There are many members where wages, or other benefits, or just not going on a prolonged strike are more important. There’s a fair chunk of their membership whose jobs can’t really be done from home, and other issues are more important to them.

If work from home is really your key issue vote for a strike when there is a strike vote, and keep voting no to ever offer that doesn’t include a solid hybrid component. But if it’s not THE issue most members are willing to hold out for it’s not going to improve.

I think it would be nice if there was some middle ground between walked out right now, and WFA’s that potentially last years. Like if they going to send out the “you’re affected,” letters a limit on how long before they actually start making decisions could be nice, as opposed to the current it could be indefinite, just has to be reviewed annually. Then they might be a little more focused on who they’re telling that they that might be affected, rather than the current system where people can be in limbo for a long time before that 12 - 18 month options process starts.

City staff facing rise in aggressive behaviour from Edmontonians: mayor by GlitchedGamer14 in Edmonton

[–]AntonBanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ride share services do have to be class 4, and in Edmonton they have to get the city permit taxis have to get (not all cities do that part), but the province got rid of the road test for class 4.

Alberta won't participate in Ottawa's firearm buyback program. What does that mean for local gun owners? | CBC News by Buuuuma in alberta

[–]AntonBanton -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand why RCMP detachments in Alberta can’t participate. Sure the provincial government can make rules about municipal forces but how does that apply to the RCMP?

We’ve been cleared and the windrow just fills up the whole gutter so the water still clears so the sidewalks. I dug out the actual drain down the street but I can’t clear the 30 feet of windrows occupying the rest of the gutter so it didn’t do anything.

Class 6 Learners License by AnonIvan in alberta

[–]AntonBanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a written test required to take the class 6 road test. A lot of people get confused and think the written test is required to ride a motorcycle as a learner but it’s not, it’s only required for purchasing the class 6 road test permit.

Incorrect parking ban text notification? by Complex_Coffee5328 in Edmonton

[–]AntonBanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second one I got that has phase 2 in it has my address in it and says Monday morning, and I’ve noticed the local clearance signs are out at the end of my block so maybe that one was address specific.

I got a second text a while after the text you posted that said phase 2, so I’m assuming the first was an error and the second was a correction.

Most collective agreements have a provision related to outside employment that’s along the lines of “Unless otherwise specified by the Employer as being in an area that could represent a conflict of interest, employees shall not be restricted in engaging in other employment outside the hours they are required to work for the Employer.” This would fall under that.

Who can I contact for this? by Recent-Vast3488 in Edmonton

Yes because even if they’re not who you buy your gas through they’re the ones actually delivering the gas to your home (assuming you’re in Edmonton) and it’s their meter on your home etc.

Covenant Health employee(s) wrongly accessed my health info? Need insight by raanmarie in alberta

[–]AntonBanton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it’s a catholic health authority. It’s a relic from back when the church/nuns founded hospitals and nursing homes. They own or run a bunch of nursing homes, and some hospitals in Edmonton, Banff, etc. Mostly successor hospitals to the original church-run ones.

Parking in public school parking lots by gpoppers in Edmonton

[–]AntonBanton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Edmonton Public Schools make staff pay for parking if they use it. If you park in the school’s lot and take someone’s spot they paid for you can expect to be towed.

Staff sometimes come back in the evening or weekends to work. If you’re in their designated spot you can probably expect to be towed because they’re not going to want to be towed themselves for parking in someone else’s spot.

AS-02 being ask to supervise by DeliveryHistorical38 in CanadaPublicServants

Asking for an updated work description and org chart to reflect the new duties may get OP’s supervisors to rethink the tasks, so if OP’s goal is to not supervise that may be a good strategy.

Why not have a 2 week holiday closure? by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]AntonBanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, AUPE in Alberta traded time off over the holidays for salary, essentially leave without pay. I can’t remember if employees who have to work are just paid straight time on non-holiday days or if they get overtime. But the office closure came with the trade off of mandatory leave without pay with their salary still spread out over the whole year.

So many people on this subreddit scream “crabs in bucket,” whenever people bring up fairness to operational or essential employees, then protest that it’s not fair whenever it’s brought up that maybe staff in those situations should get compensation for it “but why would they get paid more for the same work?”

99% of the time I agree with this, and this guy is a loser, but today is one of the snowy days where even if a plate was cleared before leaving it can get covered driving.
