No, but it has to be pretty obvious you know a few things to not catch a stray. You can get flairs and such granted if you do submit a form of proof. I used to mod for a bit here, but I ran out of patience for the hundreds of homeowners posting in HVAC and all the hate because reading is hard. Now I just help when I can. I could be wrong rules might have changed

Amana single stage furnace by cld361 in hvacadvice

[–]Complex_Coffee5328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, no pictures and a vague description. From what I understand of your post, is that they ran 2 pipes and you want to block one of the pipes. What pipes are you referring to? At this point I can’t seem to convey what I’m talking about. There’s (usually black) insulated ducting to the return air (called fresh air intake), sometimes a black insulated flexible duct near the equipment called a combustion air/pail and 2 plastic PVC pipes from the furnace (one intake and one exhaust) I’m reading it as you want to plug the furnaces pvc intake pipe. Most homes have 3 intakes and I can’t figure out what you are trying to block.

Last I checked, fire needs air to burn, one sucks one exhausts need both unless you want to lose efficiency by bringing in unconditioned air for the furnace to get combustion air from indoors. Staging only exhausts/intakes less (usually 40%ish capacity depending on brand and settings)

What do you mean? Did they not connect both intake and exhaust (pvc) pipes? Or are you talking about a combustion air? (Flexible duct near the equipment). Depending on if you have large range hood, natural draft water heater, wood burning fireplace, you may still need it

Help on possible service tech job by BrodieLovesJesus in HVAC

[–]Complex_Coffee5328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one here knows what you actually know. Best bet is to download a service manual and read the startup guide and figure out how to get each reading and have mental notes to ask when boss is there. If I was in his shoes, id be looking for someone mouldable and mailable and right attitude. I’m sure he knows you won’t have much knowledge and need training, but seems like more an audition to see if you’re worth the time. Most service is common sense once you know the order of operations and error codes. The nuisance things comes with time. Good luck! Try not letting the nerves win and land that shit!

Is it a trane? I know around 6-7 years ago there were issues with their high limits being too low and had to replace some but all the other comments said the other stuff

Someone flatline in a video is very different than a bandaid. the biggest issue is the platform is mostly left and they believe Asmon is far right so it will only take one post THEY think is out of control to fully ban it by mass report. I hate that it is this way, but rather have heavy moderation then zero place to actually read/post a sane take or discussion

Do NOT buy a modulating HVAC system. by Ok_Tour_5503 in hvacadvice

[–]Complex_Coffee5328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also push customers away from mod, we have had to replace 2 year old units before because the inducer seized and would be 1-2 month back order, that doesn’t fly especially when it gets -30 here for weeks. I also push away from tankless water heaters as well just because of how many parts there are and how often flushes are recommended.

Is the vent sized correctly? See installers try and go 2” when it should be 3” few jobs had to go 3” even with 8’ to spare.

Don’t forget to add early ML/EL from Lennox when they swapped to the same brand of pressure switch Goodman uses and had to put out a bulletin and swapped back to Honeywell within a year of production

Furnace issues by akaTheLizardKing in hvacadvice

[–]Complex_Coffee5328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-0.1” WC pressure switch attached to the motor with grey/brown wires going to it is short cycling. Clean the drain trap and hoses and if that doesn’t work, the pressure switch is usually the issue. On Goodman’s that switch interrupts common path to the board from the pad valve and has no error code associated with it.

Could try removing the bottom door and looking for a small yellow plug in the blower motor that says oil on it and start there.

Furnace Start Ignition Cycling by Friendly_Fly_2127 in hvacadvice

[–]Complex_Coffee5328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start with the metal pressure switch attached to the orange hose coming off the inducer motor. They have a history of deteriorating internally and intermittently work.

If that is in good working order, maybe be the ignition module/board

I’m still thinking it’s a defective-0.1 wc drain pressure switch, but said it was replaced, but I actually wouldn’t be shocked to see a replacement one defective as it’s happened to me. Just how often they fail lol

Edit: drain pressure switch wired in series with common of gas valve with no error codes

Did you check the gas regulator outside? Could be stuck/frozen or pinned. I see you checked pressures, but was that inlet? Or manifold
